Thank you to everyone who tried and even better to those who succeeded in using the info in this thread to become self reliant and grow your own without taxation and inflated prices of this harmless plant. Grow on my friends. My time here is complete. I only hope I made just one person have their own grow. If so it was well worth my time here. I wish I could meet every one of you, shake your hand and say well done.
Farewell and God bless.

Thank you for all your knowledge and patience.

Yeah, man, this changed the way a group of us will grow forever, thanks for everything, doing a dab for ya ;)

I am sure fabric pots would help but I just don't have the $ to drop on that right now.

We have been stuck in some pretty cold air lately and I think that was playing a role in my mix staying wet longer than usual. The nighttime temps were dropping into the mid 60's and I guess my sativa girls didn't like that so I have upped that and dropped the amount of water used with each watering and that seems to have made the girls happy again.

I may start using a 1-3" rock base in my larger 5 gallon pots or cut back the amount of soil used.

So, just in case anyone was wondering, I figured out this issue.

I guess I didn't properly cook my soil. That is the only thing that I can think of that I would have messed up. I had been using LC1 mix wth bone/blood/kelp and my girls were showing all sorts of weird issues and weren't drinking so the soil stayed wet forever.

When I cooked it, I noticed the soil only stayed warm for a day or two despite my efforts to keep it going. About 1.5 months ago I decided to give a batch of girls a big does of Pure Blend Pro and they shot right back to life.

I guess I need to review my cooking steps.

Composting ie cooking before planting shouldn't influence the plants ability to take up the nutrients in the soil. Bio-availability is based on a lot more than just decomposition of raw materials. There are nutrients available at the very onset.

I plant cannabis seeds in the same soil mix I veg and flower in and it's NPK values are 740-1110-945. I've been told after every soil test that the mix is too hot and it will kill anything planted in it. I know otherwise.

I don't think how long you "cooked" your soil had anything to do with your lack of desired results. 6 weeks in the same container without enough root space. Temps too cold. Soil staying too wet. Root rot being likely.

You have far too many variables in error to conclude it was something to do with how you composted the soil. Just my opinion.

Dude, you can lead them to the watering hole, but ya can't force em to drink! The fact that you laid things out for those even STUBBORN can digest speaks volumes! I've been at this since 2006 in an organic state of mind, when I told folks back then I prefer using manures and basic soils, NOT DEAD DIRT or hydroponics ......I got troll rolled by ppm know it alls. I've never had to worry about most issues folks face because I went out of my way to keep things K.I.S.S simple when approaching everything in my gardens. I grow my own tobacco, nettles, etc etc I have access to the seeds at my local coo-op and haven't looked back since! I'm blessed to have a guy in the center of my state that produces a quality soil that need on,y be recharged after a season! I could do teas and the like but if my plants don't show that they are lacking anything I tend to leave em alone and let em go. The one thing that I'm starting to SERIOUSLY take into my newer beds here are KNF ......I have all the videos saved on YouTube from Chris trump. Being poor helps keep things in perspective as well. My biggest issue was online (etiquette ) and being able to sniff out folks who claim this and that but aren't really into this like I am for example......folks can get cocky attitudes or greedy and it's nails on a chalkboard to me so I avoid them 99.999% of the time. Two folks I really enjoy learning from refuse to use the Internet ......luckily for me there are three - four folks here I can rely on for great knowledge. I've learned to block out the distracting souls. I seriously enjoy seeing folks share knowledge and helping others. Nothing like treating others like you Yourself wants to be treated..............as I drink this kombucha........I wonder if my plants could handle some sans bubbly. The things that go through my mind I tell ya!
One thing that's changed is I carry my fn .45 on me wherever I go nowadays .....too many knuckleheads moving up here that don't understand firearm responsibility. Folks steal way too much nowadAys........farmers but a lot of love and work into thier gardens and farms.....to have that messed with or stolen effects thier families quality of life. I do have a masters cert
https://www.uvm.edu/extension/mastergardener/vermont-master-composter-course

So I'm trying to teach local Nepali how to incorporate these teachings into their new plots.....the look on their face when they see the results......man oh man I love being in the soil!:peacock:

not only that, but since its not medical and recreational here now, hardly anyone grows organically, the grow store closest to me says I'm 1 of 2 ppl that go in looking for organic things, have to order the shit I want cause they don't stock it cause everyone around here is against organics....or have to drive past like 8 grow stores to get the right stuff.

I am def organic for life now, thanks to this thread.

Keep Growing Organically.

Been searching like a madman, the only powdered lime i have found is called Hi-Yield Hydrated Lime. is this the right stuff? {i think it is, but it seems to contain more than just lime, and nowhere on it does it say dolomite.}

https://www.hi-yield.com/products/InfoSheets/33371.pdf

Im barely 20% through the thread, so I’m sure (I hope) that someone’s already covered this, but just in case:

Get on your phone or device, pull up maps, and search for “nursery” or “garden supply” or “landscapers”. If you still get a phone book, look them up in the yellow pages/commercial directory. Call the one closest to you and ask them if they have powdered dolomite (and whatever you can’t find @home depot).

ANY nursery or garden supply store or landscaper - or an old Ace hardware - should have plenty in stock; if your nearest is out, thank them and call the next closest.

DON’T JUST SEARCH ONLINE!!! And don’t go to a fancy “grow store” if you have them - think like a farmer....

idk if we can share links to products, but that is the powdered dolomite I use, however I plan to switch to the 3 part lime mix once I go threw the last few bags of this stuff.

About 5 or 6 years or so ago when we started using this thread, we couldn't find powdered and used the peleted hydrated stuff, I found we had to add a liquid cal/mag to all of our teas. Then we switched to the powered in the last couple years, stocked up, but I like what I been reading on the 3 part lime mix.

Just hit page #200...worst thing about digging through a looong thread like this one, is, you can’t comment on what’s going on: traveling through time, coming up from the past. But I *CAN* stick head out and say DAMN what a thread!!!

I am totally loving this, learning a ton...be ready for an associates degree by the time I’m done. Thanks to all the posters asking questions and helping to provide answers! Thanks to Lavender Cowboy and Bongoloid for the recipes, and to BurnOne for picking up the torch and carrying on with it!

Onward!

UPDATE: ...and by ~pg. 350 or so, the thread goes off the rails...by this point, Burn1, vonforne, and Clackamas Coot have gone on, and the thread is just ‘experimenters’ wandering in the Bush, encouraging others to do as they like...it’ll be interesting to see if it gets a grip on itself at some point, by this point, it’s not “Organics for Beginners” anymore.

For those who jump to the end: go back read the first 200 pages again, or even the first 100 pages - the meat is all on the front end. Eat hearty!

Another good place is your local feed store. Look for a product called Barnlime.

fwiw, i can only find powdered dolomite online. about to order some more. although, I may do the 3way lime mix instead this time

1 part powdered dolomite
1 part agricultural gypsum
2 parts powdered oyster shell

1 to 2 tablespoons lime mix per gallon of peat moss...NOT soil mix. Or 1 cup per cubic foot of peat moss.

don’t worry too much if you cant find dolomite limestone.
The gypsum and oyster shell have things covered.
The only plants i use dolomite for anymore are cactus that originate in limestone heavy areas.

I am a organic soil novice. I respect all knowledge on the forum, but I like to try things myself. I would appreciate it if you could evaluate my self-made mix. All comments are welcomed. Home grown compost, mushroom compost, worm castings, organic chicken manure pellets, sheep peat, kelp meal, crab meal, azomite, mycorrhizae, perlite. Do you think this is overkill?
