Tutorial Organics for Beginners

Sustainable Ag

Using things like Compost Tea, Mycorrhizae, Kelp, Liquid or Powdered Fish, Lime, Vermicompost, etc. will also assist in plant growth and getting the correct nutrition to your plants.

20 days in for the Bodhi Goji OG, 16 for the TH Seeds Bubblegum. Got their first "real" watering about 12 hours ago (see 3rd pic). Will be transplanting soon...

great thread, might use these recipes to grow some culinary herbs, would this mix well for Mint, parsley, oregano etc?

Peace all and happy growing, great pics also and info, thanks for all the effort all :)

Riddle,

If that is a morning photo, you are over watering. If it is a night time photo, maybe not over watering....

I figured this maybe helpful to some of you who would like to start making your own mycorrhizal inoculum. These recipies came from Jeff lowenfels teaming with fungi.

Could it possibly be from needing to transplant to larger pot?

If the light was still on, you are over watering. Let them get to the point where they stems start to bend over. I know it is a painful thing to do, buy 90% of the people over water! This makes your Ca uptake go very low and you will never recuperate from it... you still might do ok, but you would have done a lot better.... pick up the pots so you can feel when they are wet. Make them ask for water, really!

Thank you! Going to leave them be for the weekend, let them get to the point where they really look like they need watering. New growth is at least perky, so hopefully I will be able to judge off that. Has been sort of difficult to tell since I probably overwatered from the start.

Noticing some slight yellowing of first single fan leaves. Cant recall if this is normal, or maybe starting to show signs of N deficiency? New growth looks to be fine, vibrant green. Expecting them to start asking for food soon, as the media they are in is just LC mix #2, and 1 EWC/BS molasses watering

So I pulled a few out of the pots, as they feel heavy at the bottom, but light and dry on top. Lots of roots, little bit of moisture, but lots of roots, circling around the square pots. Think this might be a transplant issue at this point, or both overwatering and transplant? 21 days from seed now, about 18 in 3.5" pot

Was really hoping to sex these before transplant

Point your fan at the wall so it just circulates air around your space. Should be on low for one your size. If the leaves are just barely moving your doing it right. That exchanges the envelope of air surrounding the leaf. It does help to give them some direct fan a couple times a week, for a few hours. That will increase strength in the stems. Direct fan will stress and dehydrate your plant if left constant. As the plant takes up water it brings nutes with it. If it's not ready for the nutes, this will cause a build up in the plant. Looks like you have a week at least before you need to transplant. If you do it too early, you risk setting them back for 10 days roughly. Bio Ag Vam applied to the roots at transplant will greatly reduce that. I can't wait till you get those in Smart Pots, so many of your problems will go away. Do back off on the water. Lastly quit staring at them, your freaking 'em out. kidding.

black strap molasses is dangerous !

black strap molasses is dangerous !

"Sticky History
In 1919, a processing accident caused a 40-foot wave of molasses to sweep through the streets of Boston, killing 21 people and injuring 150. The event is known as the Boston Molasses Disaster.

holy molasses!

In my experience the cloth bags (ex smartpots) work exactly as they advertise. Larger plants with larger root masses in smaller pots. I'm a huge fan.

thanks for the feedback! These plants will all be going into 1L pots and spending some time in there while taking cuttings from them. Eventually theyll be flowered out in 5gal smart pots.

Clones with minimal veg will be flowered in 3 gallon smart pots

Thanks for the tip on fan use. I had just about figured that I was giving the plants too much wind a couple days ago, and have aimed it slightly above the canopy now. They are much happier. Also, have used the knowledge from this thread, and am watering with b molasses, humates, mikes and beneficial bacteria and a little seaweed extract. Plants have turned around completely, and are thriving.

Well it's been about 48 hours now since turning the fan away from the plants, and watering them. They still look overwatered... will it just take some time for them to rebound? Anything I can do to help?

Actions taken are slower to show up in soil. Those look over watered but the tips or growing shoots look good. The lower leaves will take longer to recover. If you stacked up the plant matter in comparison to the water contained in that soil, you'd realize it will take a bit of time for those small leaves to transpire that amount of water.

As someone pointed out above, You really need to have two more pots of that same size you're using. Fill both with fresh soil from your leftover mix. Set one off to the side, water the other one well. Feel the difference in weight between the two? You shouldn't water those again until they feel like the unwatered pot.

Remember the shoots are where it's at. They tell you a lot about your plant. Those look like they're about to take off on a good growing spurt.

All in all nice job though, yours are doing better than mine at just about the same age. I took a short cut and used a commercial seedling mix, I regret it terribly.

I'm no expert but have learned many things the hard way. I'd like to see you avoid them.
You'd do well to keep a journal. Many here gave you good advice, slow down and read their posts again.

Many Blessings.
