Organic Gold III - Soil Heresy by 3LB

Thanks! I've been leaving it cracked and turning it every day with a little garden shovel. The smell is earthy but also I can smell amonia...3BM, you made this sound bad...

Also...I checked the ph of the soil the other day and its way too high. What do I need to add into my mix to drop the ph back down? I ran 7.7 ph water through a pot and it came out at 8.6. I'm not exactly sure where this leaves me for a ph, but I know thats its too high.

Well this is probably coming way late for you NoMore, but try adding "black peat" to your soil. Its just composted peat, or peat that has gone further along the decay cycle. Sometimes I see it called acid peat. Regardless of the name, it will have a dark black color and a moist sticky texture (like finished compost). It will definitely drop your pH, it tests around 5 for me.

Off topic, but just a thought. All this discussion was based on the experience of 3LB. Their posts at CW and OG inspired me to start on this journey, and gave me hope that sound agricultural methods would apply to indoor gardens. 5 years later and Im knee deep in it! I just wanted to send a shout out to those wise soil gurus of old reborn here at IC: theFLINTSTONERS! Please come enlighten us further, your comments are always appreciated. I stumbled blindly along the path since the fall of OG, and would love to get it from the horses mouth so to say. :respect:

Hey Superjoint:

Never used that particular product, but reading the description indicates it should work. Just add it according to the recommended dosage, or a little less if you like. I might add about 1-2c/50gal of soil to start with and see how things go. Subsequent remixes might still contain slow to break down particles so add less each time. Maybe at the 3rd remix jump back up to the full dose. Less is more in soil remixing, as you can always supplement weak soil with solubles. Once you plug a plant in over-nuted soil you will follow those issues all the way up = roots will die and so will the plant. Hope that helps. Best of luck bud!

Three cheers for the 3 little birds. More members should think back and read back on those times. Many treat icmag too much like a bad version of facebook these days, me included.
