eh guys,

just wanted to post a few tips i have learned over teh years to save bucks its in my ukranian DNA. lol. so share any hacks u guys have

horse feed:

alfalfa pellets are good source of N growth hormones organic material and if purchase as feed fraction of the price. 10-20 bucks for 25kg bag

kelp meal. horses are fed kelp meat and pails are again fraction of the price. may need a quick rinse or use sparingly because of Na.

diatomacious earth: great for ants and pests and much cheaper if buy large bag for animal feed. 13 bucks 20 kg bag instead of 12 bucks for a litre or 2. also adds micros and silica. RAW sells DE for organic silica

Pigs are fed charcoal so 5 gallon pail for20 bucks is much cheaper then they sell biochar. normally is super fine which may or may not have drawbacks. of ourse mixes much better.

also great source for ground cover as seed and feed normally carry seeds for pasture which inlcude typical N fixing plants.

chickens are fed oystershells so is a much cheaper source then tiny pails or bags for 25 bucks. great for calcium and micros.

some places have coco coir for animal bedding which is alot cheaper then grow baged. other bedding can be great mulch aspen chips etc

let us know your hacks!

lol i gave my dad some of my containers to grow last season when i was moving and had largest plants ever so he got rid of his greenhouse cause thinks he can grow plenty without it...dont think he gets its all about the soil and not his BS clayey topsoil and super hot compost from his buddies farm.

I think whole oats may be a nice little add get some organic material and REALLY boost fungal life. they grow mushrooms with oats..

Also. been thinking about earthenware as of late. remember going with my grandma and digging clay as she was a potter and thought it was the coolest thing.

May be a fun way to make chow mix. roll up found clay and toss it in the camp fire homemade hydroton ;)

ya there isa company biofert here. prices went up 10 bucks but 54 dollars for 50lb bag which is not bad feathermeal guano rock phosphate leanordorite bloodmeal and similarly fairly balanced stuff. easy no 50 lbs of bonemeal i normally eyeball i nice and balanced with humics. little commercial peat/withmyc and perlite dolomite mix, coco, shrimp compost, other composts maybe little kelp or alfalfa and GTG.. super important getting proteins chelate and allows the plant to absorb much better vs relying more on bennies.

screened or base gravel is aight too drainage and adds some micros. has superfine materials aswell so like rock dust but CHEAP

cheapest hack is NIGHTSOIL

yes, human poop.

would normally not mess with it.

but after letting it sit for 6 months ... rake it up & plant something

still avoid that area though.

horsetail plants harvested in NON toxic envirnoments are an EXCELLENT source of silica, in fact i think they have the highest silica availability for plants then any other....ancient species....those spores like shrooms to spread......try em out!

I've always thought that if I decided to scale up I would probably use this fertilizer:

https://www.7springsfarm.com/harmony-ag-organic-fertilizer-5-4-3-9-calcium-50-lb-bag/

$20 for a 50 lb bag, and the nute ratio is almost optimized for cannabis. Hell, I may try it anyway, although 50 lbs will last me a few years.

I like to follow the sweet corn farmers pract up here ......long standing manure (5yrs sitting at least) is one of the tried and true methods they use.
