Organic amendments and fertilizers in Canada.

Thanks Mikell and ahemait :)

Rice hulls are easy to source at any brew store … organic is proving difficult. Gaia Green is a great company and their glacial rock dust is quite easy to find. They used to sell basalt dust, but seem to be out of it at the moment. Their glacial rock dust has different qualities to basalt rock dust … in particular the paramagnetic characteristics and also the possibility of higher contaminants - just from the way it is sourced … each batch will be a bit different. Not a huge problem in outside gardening, but in a no-till setup, I would feel more comfortable getting basalt dust.:)

A new company that has a pretty impressive range of products- over 6 rock dusts, crab, kelp, oyster, rice hulls, etc. Even has Ahisma neem meal and oil. Ontario based, no website yet. Black Swallow Soil at G mail dot com.

They look pretty legit, and pricing looks fair.

Thanks for the head up on this one odkin.:)

Real nice people and they have an excellent range of organic amendments - they even sell organic rice hulls by the cu ft for a fair price. :)

Wanted to give this a bump for anyone in the lower mainland. I visited West Creek Farm (website posted earlier in the thread) today and they do sell to the public. I picked up a few bags of their organic compost as well as some worm castings for about half the price i could find locally at a garden supply and its likely higher quality.

They also have a medical marijuana mix that is not listed on the website. The lady at the xounter did not know what was in it but I am going to send an email to find out. It was 9.95 per 40l bag. The organic compost was 4.95/30l bag and the castings were 25 bucks. Had i not already gotten my materials together, i would be very interested in the mmj mix.

Obviously shipping wouldnt make sense but anyone local would like this place.

Bmac, they also sell the 22kg bag of Gaia green 444. I also got 8 yards of their organic soil. Pretty impressed with it so far. Awesome place...

In the Ottawa area, I've yet to find a soil company sell proper compost. They throw shit together and call it compost. No cooking at all. I do have a couple mushroom farms in the area though. But it only takes a couple garbage cans or kiddie pool and about 30 days to really rock.

Try the trendier animal farms. Hell it's usually cheaper than store bags and if not, a heck of a lot better.

Yeah. Something organic. Your average feedlot is no better than the Walmart compost.

Calling around might lead to more result. They all have it, not everyone advertises.

Kijiji can have good ads sometimes to unload their manure, alpaca farms and rabbit farms aren't hard to find either.

I used to have horses and would sell it to Continental Mushrooms. They took it because I used straw for bedding but wouldn't touch it if I used shavings.

Anyone know why they wouldn't take the manure with wood shavings?

Sequesters.

Most soil mixes are high in N and it is easy to supplement with alfalfa meal or alfalfa meal tea.
