OPOP ( one plant one pound ) 2006

My plants are short when i take them out in there dixie cup containers, when they revert to flower they shoot up to about one foot ,and for the most part ,they are branch less from the stretch.

They just barely get preflowers and then they go back into veg.

April is about the times I can safely take them outside ,to to adjust to the sun light and temps, they sometimes get temps as low as 32 degrees F...if i know thats going to be the peak low, I leave them out...

I put my dixie cups in a piece of rain gutter with no ends on it, this keeps the wind from blowing the cups over, then i cover the gutter with leaves to hide it.

My usual plan, is to prune the indoor donor moms one month befor i want clones, I take cutting ,one month later, and veg them indoors ,one month, then they go outside to harden them off.

The indoor pruning and cutting are taken the same time every year, but taking them outside depends the the weather that year, and I gamble on that ...

Actually the big plant posted above was still in a dixie cup tell June, and was planted late, and was havested in october.

oops ...Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate (MgSO₄) ,most ferts do not contain it, most ferts do have Manganese (mg)

Usually just indoor plants need epsom salts from time to time, but outdoors its USUALLY not needed, but ive used it on my plants outdoors for years.

magnesium sulfate (MgSO₄)
Manganese (mg)

a shortage of magnesium sulfate ,usually shows up, and looks somewhat like a nitrogen problem, a general light green collor of the leaves , but it usually is all over the plant , nitrogen usually starts at the bottom,

Impressive thread guys, hope I'll be able to post some pics in it when I harvest. Currently end of summer down here, things are veggin' but with the shorter days some are starting to bud.

Not to be a nitpicker or anything, but Manganese is (Mn), not the same as Magnesium (Mg), which cannabis loves. Pretty easy to get confused between both as the formulas are similar (MnSO4 and MgSO4).

Keep it rockin' people :joint:

heres a question.... how do you guys producing opop get enough water to these monstors. i would imagine their water needs would be crazy. i couldn understand if your growing in your backyard and have access to a hose but what about those gureillia growers? does the soil naturally contain enough moisture that the plant doesnt require 10 gallons of water every 2 days lol?

Thats why my spot is great, 1.5 foot down or so is a very moist layer where water moves freely around, there is a swamp nearby and its just outside of an uphill watershed area that generates waterflow through the subsoil, the first foot or so can be very dry though which seems wierd and I think will be great for my plants during the wet spring while they get established. I got a 4.5' plant in a clearing a car lane wide with 50' trees around blocking all the light in the area. I will have better soil and MUCH more light this time around so I hope to have huge plants.

Thanks for making me sound like a ass :pointlaug am just kidding ,I was to lazy to go get my epsom bag, and a fert container...plants do need both the Manganese and the Magnesium.

yes epsom is good for plants, am surprised lately ,how many people ask me whats it for, ive been using it since the early 1980's.Outdoors I actually use about a tablespoon of epsoms in a 10 gallon hole, putting about half of it near the bottom mixed with soil, and the other half mixed into the upper soil.

I watered that concussion plant about 3 times, and only because when I did plant it,the temps where in the mid 80's,and the ground was dust dry.I still only gave it about 3 cups of water each time.

I would make one trip to the creek with two 5 gallon buckets, and like most water, it was at the bottom of a hill , my old fat man body could only handle that one trip:violin:

So I just watered each plant a cup at a time intell I ran out of water, finially it rained enough so I could stop the watering. The dry weather was probly a blessing, making the plant set down deep roots looking for moisture...just like a tree and weeds do.

I have carried so much water before that I thought I was going to have a heart attack, lol. It isnt an easy job carrying 10 gallons at a time. Last year I cut it down to 8 gallons. A couple years ago I got stopped at a road stop with 40 gallon jugs of "blue" water. I used the excuse that I was going to cemetaries to water flowers and they seemed to buy it.

did you mow the cemetary too  that was a great excuse for the water supply...

Ive ran the thought over of using small diamiter tubing ,like 1/4 inch to pump water out of the creek, up the hill to my plants, Id use a motor cycle battery and maybe a solor charger.

the critters would probly chew up my line...

ive even thought of digging a well, just a hole about 8" wide and 8 feet deep ,would probly hit ground water in my area, the "well" would be in a low area anyway, it would be enough to give them a worthy drink...

thats what 10 foot post hole diggers are good for...Ive actually hit water at 4 feet deep in some spots, due to field drainage tiles.

Makes me scared to think how far I have to drive with my seedlings in spring and bud in fall! Over 100 miles! Nice and slow in the early morning with everything covered up with black plastic!

Never been stopped on the road to my spot, never even seen a cop and I have never seen a road stop in my life, and I have a piggy detector in my car.

This is why I love growing outdoor so much .. some pretty impressive plants guys. I'd rather have a few giants than a bunch of little ladies. Last year I grew one plant, Kept pegging it down and letting the branches shoot upwards and ended up with a pound of huge bud. A buddy of mine did the same a few years ago, it was 6 feet plus high and sequoia like in girth. It cropped 8 pounds wet and 4 and a bit dried.

Keep this thread going it gets me antsy for spring!!!

you should get some RUN FLAT TIRES,so if you have a flat tire in a bad spot you can keep on going...... a friend of mine had a flat, and a cop stopped to assit him, mostly the cop sat in his car and just watched...luckily.

Around these parts , they set up road blocks, but post police at exit roads befor the road block. Thats where most folks with somethig illegal turn off ,and they bust the most people there, not the road block...

What are the roadblocks for, drunks? I cant imagine being stopped for no reason around where I am.

Are you guys ready,
chompin at the bit?

Here's a couple of thoughts that have been on my mind,

"The season starts in a comfortable rocking chair in front of the fire", in other words, growing large plants requires some forethought, a good plan well executed- it's not gunna happen by throwing whatever scraps you have leftover from your indoor at the time outside.

When dealing with clones (hopefully) or sexually mature seed plants, the biggest hump to get over is the transition from the prestart (inside) to outside.

After several years of getting beat up on this, i've come to believe that a few things are fairly important. That the plants receive conditions that are increasingly more favorable (regarding light/heat intensity, duration etc) up to the day you set them out. You don't want to be truckin along at 24 hours light per day inside, then throw them out to receive only 14 hours. You don't want to start them under 1000 watts then stick em out to receive 10 days of rain (keep an eye to weather and keep them in another week etc). They'll go into budding and you'll loose precious vegging time turning them back around. More seasons are ruined this way...

An example:

I'm looking to transplant to my outdoor plots around june 1rst.
So, i'll look into my farmers almanac and see that on June 1rst my area receives 15 1/2 hours of light (just guessing). I'm careful to read "civil twilight" aprox sunrise-sunset +50 min,, depending on where you live. I will then plan my prestart veg cycle at just under 15 1/2 hours of light. I will use a 400 watt halide kept at all times at least 2 ft + from the tops of the plants. All duration, intensity, heat (run the hell outa the vent fan) is slated for more favorable conditions when proceeding outdoors.
Any thoughts/ additions/ claims that i'm full of it welcomed.

wise words tom! recreating the outdoor conditions is important when playing inside\outside.

hows it going TOM:wave:

I already know my planting times..for my area ,but what i do is go by the average last frost date, then using a note book, I start counting backwards.Lets use june 1st as the actual planting date.

so I have June 1st, I like to harden off my plants outside in containers for 2 weeks, weather permiting,so i have to get my vegged cuttings ready by may 17.

My cloning /veg time usually lasts about a month indoors, so they are cloned by april 17th.

In order to get a large amount of clones ,from one or 2 mothers plants,of each strain, I have to stop pruning the moms, and let them grow out about 3 to 4 weeks. That means I prune them for the last time on march 20th.

So I start the year at march 20th and plant june 1st in this example, thats a totol prep time of 11 weeks and 3 days.

Starting this with a new strain from seed will take a earlier start time,if you want to germ seeds, like the SCBB  you need to figure out how long it will take to germ/veg/ and sex a clone also.

My plants usually revert to flowering for about one to 2 weeks when i put them outside the first time, but this is there hardening off time anyway, since i use cuttings from mother plants that are on a 18/6 cycle , thats what I leave my new plants for spring on,during the prep time.
