In his book “The King of Nepal”, Joe PietriI talks about a load of hash that he had stashed in Nepal to be smuggled out at a later date. The hash dried out too much to be worth shipping. He says he mixed it with opium to soften it up and make it sellable. He claims this was most likely the only suitcase of Opiated Hash to be ever shipped to the US

yea there is some good information in that book ,
i hear kelly slater (the famous surfer) is thinking of making a movie of it now,
id certainly take note of the information those guys put in the book since it was clearly well-researched and direct from accounts of the people in the trade at the time,
not sure how many people they interviewed all up ,
but 1000 hours of interviews is quite a lot ,
there is several clips on you tube and an interview with one of the main players also ...

i mean if 100 people , who were involved in the smuggling , growing etc , all say the same thing , you really have to lean towards them being accurate ,
vs folks who were never there and have been told stuff second or third hand .. or by shifty dealers etc ...

Opiated Thai Sticks were real.

I heard the process to make them involved the rinse water used to clean out the pots that opium paste was made in....don't know how it was applied/dipped/sprayed/etc.....no idea. I know it takes a special opium pipe to smoke opium properly, but I can tell you that the effect of an opiated Thai Stick smoked in a joint was an unforgettable experience for me and I've been at it since 1975. And some might suggest that the best Thai weed would have that kind of effect, too....no. Thai weed was the best weed I've ever smoked....but an opiated Thai stick wasn't like weed....not by a long shot.

Anyone who says that they are a myth obviously never got in on any of them. They weren't an everyday thing. Just because you might have been a pot smoker back then, didn't have anything to do with getting opiated Thai sticks. They were very rare and you almost had to know someone who was in the Vietnam War to find them. I managed to get two of them in my entire life back in 1975. I've never had anything like them since.

I can't say that the method was "correct" in order for the opium to be vaporized or whatever, but it certainly worked to smoke some of it in a joint, regardless. You'd only know IF you had it. I did and I also know a few others who did and will tell you the same thing.

Nothing mythical about it. Opiated Thai Sticks were real.

The meme of smoking opium and laying on the ground comes from Opium brokers adulterating the opium with opium ash which contains high levels of morphine .

Steven: The reasons for that stereotype are manifold, and, as with all stereotypes, they’re partly based on fact and partly on misunderstanding. During the heyday of the opium trade, raw opium exported by the British from India to China was purchased by Chinese brokers who then repackaged the product for sale to opium smokers within China. These brokers processed the raw opium into smoking opium, or chandu, and during this process they added impurities — the most common being opium ash — in the same way that drug cartels add nonessential ingredients to pure cocaine or heroin in order to boost their profits. Opium ash has a high morphine content, and adding it to pure opium not only increased the quantity of the product, it also made the high more numbing. So people with limited means who smoked low-quality opium cut with opium ash were more likely to lie around in a daze. And these were exactly the kind of smokers most often witnessed by Westerners living or traveling in China.

However, pure,
good quality chandu smoked in moderation was energizing, both physically and mentally. So the effects really depended a lot on the kind of opium being smoked.

People forget how the CIA found their black projects DRUGS, and they operated out of the Golden Triangle for decades, and I would not be surprised if they are not still there today.

Dunno about CIA , but DEA definitely they have an office in Chiang Mai .
