Open Heart Surgery

Here is the current situation:

Thursday I will be at the Cleveland Clinic for a catheter up my leg for a stent in my severely stenosed aorta. Once the stent is installed they will continue on and take a closer look at the aortic valve and then make the decision on how to traverse the issue. The county hospital I first seen wanted to perform open heart pronto. I'm liking the Clinic's conservative approach.

The Clinic also considered my entire medical picture/history. The cardiologist surmised that the cause of my heart/neurological issues is Amyloidosis; which was confirmed through protein/urine electrophoresis.

Thursday's best case: I wake up with a few stitches in my groin with a stent and a new valve. Worst case I wake up on a ventilator with staples in my chest.. Best case I go home the next day.. Worst case I am hospitalized for a week and then months in a nursing home.

Rock n Roll Hoochie Coo, baby! :)

Tomorrow after admission they'll put a spinal drain in me, and Wednesday I get the 2nd half of my aortic stents this time for my abdominal aneurysm. The powered sliding table they work on had a major failure last month and they canceled surgery as I was in route to the hospital. I guess I should be glad I wasn't on it when it stopped working.

Good luck and prayers for your procedure Harley.

So glad you aren't f-cking with the county hospital and are able to the Cleveland Clinic. (y) Just before Harley retired, there was a new drug that was coming out to treat amlyoidosis, she can't remember the name, hope that'll be an option for you post up after you recover.

I can remember in the late 60's when my Dad had a heart attack they said Cleveland Clinic had a "new" technique called "Open Heart Surgery". If my Dad had opted in, he would have been only the 3rd person ever to have the surgery. Since the other 2 died.... he said no. LOL

Now, they can do it at the drive-in window. Well, almost. LOL

My Mom's 2nd husband had it when he was 85 or so and was home in 3 days. Medical technology is awesome these days.
