On average, How much would it cost to move to another country?

One day I would like to leave this pathetic country of the United States (unless things get better ). Say for example I saved some cash for like 5 years and decided to beat feat to another country (a cannabis friendly country) like Spain. How much do you think it would cost to do something like this? I'm talking moving expenses, getting a place there, income to live on until you can find a job, etc........ If anyone has done this before what did it cost you? I'm bored and curious that's all.

hello C. Funk, well, moving to Spain ain't cheap, that much is for certain, nor is getting a working visa.
if you want cheap and cannabis friendly, think of Colombia.
plus it is a beautiful country with amazing people and culture.
you wouldn't need much, you could live really good with an average of 1000 u.s dollars per month. even with a lot less... here in Venezuela 1000 per month guarantees you with a good place to live, tons of food, phone, electricity, water, and even broad band and cable. specially if you don't move to big cities, 'cause big cities are pretty expensive, rural areas rule anyway and you can grow outdoors all year long easily so long as it is for personal use and keep it moderately stealth, you don't want cops or bitchy people to know you are growing even when the law here and in Colombia guarantees personal use, here it is up to 20grams. same applies to Colombia.
you must speak good spanish though, or it will be complicated to get adjusted and all. peace.

move to Cali, it's more cannabis-friendly than just about anywhere else on earth. and you don't need a work visa. :) there are some cheap places, and every inch of CA is ruled by Prop 215 and SB 420, the 2 medical marijuana laws. I moved here recently so I can "high"-ly recommend it.

south america is where it's at. start studying your portuguese/spanish now and save those pennies. the adjustment period will be about a year (fluency, job, etc) and you will spend upwards of $500-1000 per month, but after that, once you get settled in, living with someone (a local), your life should be pretty laid back. you can support yourself teaching english or even better if you have some sort of trade, I.T., carpentry, cooking, whatever.

for all of its wealth and comfort, the u.s. is getting pretty intolerable ain't it? between the maniacal war profiting government and quasi-fascist corporate takeover of everything, the society and the culture have gotten very sick. even in california, where i'm from, the uneducated, intolerant sheeple are everywhere and the cost of living means you're either a corporat ebigshot or you live paycheck to paycheck. and if you're gonna live paycheck to paycheck, there are much nicer places in the world to do it. you're smart to be looking beyond...

I grew up in Alaska and have seen many many many peolple try to move on their shoestrings from the lower 48 (its like moving to another country)

I think that these "genral rules" of moving to the 49th state would apply to moving anywhere in the world.:

-do your homework
-have a pre-arranged job
-have a backout plan (basicly figure out how much u need ...then double it at least)...in case things dont work out.
-pre-arrange housing if possible too.

"CF" why not consider Alaska?...way more ganja-friendly than most of the world (its not really cold on the s/e coast and its thundefukin beautiful...especially under the northern lights)...ya dig?

good lookin out bro

I could dig Alaska for sure. I appreciate all the comments. South America would be nice too. In fact all the places mentioned are nice. Maybe one day I'll get chance to move to a place where I can do my grow thing and not have to worry about shit. I like Alaskas laws too.

I didnt really answer your question about the "cost"

I wouldent move to Alaska w/ less than 10 grand (usd) available in cash and or credit.

...probably similiar for other parts of the world.

your funds can dwindle VERY FAST when making a BIG move like your thinking.

maybe look into British Columbia or its territory the yukon (ha thats my name)......very ganja friendly, and closer than alaska...but harder to move to another country.

palmer and wasilla area of AK is where the world class veggies and "mat-su thunderfuck" are grown in case your curious.

in south america you still have to be discreet... you can't just plant a coupla acres of herb and set up a business... but if you grow in your home on your property in small quantity there's very little likelihood of anything happening, other than theft, if you're growing outdoors in an accessible area.

alaska is great, spent some time there, but it's still the u.s. of a. ie: still americans living there, still american culture, american television, american customs, american cost of living, american taxes, american emphasis on development and indifference to the environment. and if you decided to do a major grow-op, or be a cannabis activist, you'd still risk the american federal government raiding your shit.

getting a long term visa that would allow you to work and whatnot is very difficult for EU countries. they don't make it easy... we have overpopulation problems the likes of which americans won't know for several decades at least.

south america and/or the carribean would be nice, but come on, let's face it. there's so many things you're going to miss. you'd probobly be fine for a couple months, but it would get to you, i guarentee. even americans who hate american pop culture will bend over backwards for a mainline dose... a twinkie, a crappy movie... trust me i know.

alaska, or northern cali might be your best bets for the kind of culture you're looking for...

Gbbs is right, you should research the difficulties getting what is basically an immigration visa to your host country. Not easy at all.

Well I'll say this, I too am looking to move out of this country. I can put up with the laws...unjust as they may be, I can put up with the stupid war in the Middle East. However I'm sick of the sickening amount of idiots in this country. I'm not talking just Bush, but people like the guy in front of me on the interstate today who thought it'd be a good idea to toss his milkshake onto my windshield. Clearly that's not a good reason to move the country, cause there's asshats like him everywhere...just an example.

Myself I'm looking into moving down under. The Aussies are a fairly laid back people, they predominantly speak english which makes it easier on a guy who took two years of latin and two years of spanish...and promptly forgot both. Their marijuana laws aren't too strict and there's still a large amount of unpopulated land there (I'm an outdoors buff). The main reason I haven't moved yet is getting a visa. I own a couple businesses here in the states which require very little actual work from me at the point there at. I don't want to sell them because they still are doing well, and why get rid of a good thing. Which means I can't get a work visa, which is really the only hope you have of getting into a country. Personally I wouldn't move without at least $20,000.

Despite not being America most countries still have the policy of first and last months rent, as well as a deposit. That's an immediate couple grand right there at the very start. If you move to a country where mass transportation still isn't very well developed you'll need a vehicle of sorts, there's another couple thousand if you only want a junker of a car.

swap identities w/ an aussie that has a clean record and wants to be in the US...that should be pretty easy

not good advice I'm sure...but just a thought to skip all the loopholes......everyone else is doin it.

...shit the US is GREAT...u can collect huricane relief from prison for cemetary property that u never even lived on....but claimed u did

I don't want to get into a political argument, but my country is not pathetic. Please refrain from hating my wonderful country. I bet you can find some rich extreme right winger to give you a one way ticket to France with the condition that you never return.

What did he say that wasn't true? South america is where it's at. If it's good enough for porn stars to vacation to it's good enough to live there for me.

"Every square inch"...ummm...ok.

Have You evr been east of hwy#99.

It's a whole different state.
Rogue Sheriffs, that absolutly defy state law..oh, here's a new 0ne...Swearing-in Sheriff's deputies to Federal agents...Your Prop 215 paperwork won't save You here.

Just another reason to leave this over-priced shitty state.

Overpriced? Parts of it, maybe. Shitty? No. There are some counties that I would not want to live in, however, there are many great things about California. There is still affordable housing. There are still parts where you can grow as much pot as you want to and make as much money as any average person would want doing so if you have half of a brain. Quit bitching.
