old school breeders serving up total crap!!

I agree to some extent useful Idiot.

I think there are 2 serious problems.

The first is that the genetics being used by many of the companies have deteriorated terribly. I grow outdoors and nearly anything comming from amsterdam or even Europe to some degree is pathetically weak in every way and can barely be grown outdoors. Every strain ive grown in the past 5 yrs(a bunch from breeders from MR.nice, Sensi, Paradise, etc) has had zero vigor and i mean NO hybrid vigor, they are one and all disease prone, weak stemed, bug attracting and finicky. Im not sure why, but its fact.

The 2nd issue is one that was exempliefied by interviews at CCCups, Spanabis and all. One interviewer after another asked,"Whats Barney (fill in the blank) got new comming out for 012?!!! There seems to be a lot of pressure to keep pumping out strain after strain, damn the quality..... is it new!?

I know a guy that breeds and he really takes a long damn time to develop one of his strains and stablize it. I dont know how you can have 25 strains and 20 of them be anything more than pollen chucking.
I see the point there Moondawg and I can see that being the case. It's a shame though. I guess to keep making the big bucks you would have to keep making all the new polyhybrids and such. But alot of the new pollen chuckers are selling seeds that they haven't even tested!!! WTF is that all about???

There are very few breeders anymore. Just people doing the same crosses anyone can do in a closet.

How many OGs can ya cross into chems? Lame as hell

I have to check germ rates and grow at least 1 girl out before I will let them lose...I don't like using S1 seeds but sometimes I have no choice. Some think that these seeds are worth 2x what normal seeds are worth that's ridiculous imo..

^ Because not everyone is content with just running the same shit everyone else is.

A couple things.... I know people with fire that don't give away clones. You have to make them a good offer.

The op was about bad weed seed and not the fun of discovering a keeper.

i bought a pack of 10 kiwi seeds .. kiwi skunk.. and found 4 males and 6 females.. none hermied.. 4 were veryyyy veryyy the same looking.. and 2were insane looking with the densest and crystalliest buds.. so kiwi skunk i kept the 2 insane ones.. and numbered them 1 and 2 .. so anyways.. after stressing 1 and 2 out for about 3 months.. 1 month in veg and 2 months of flower out of 5 clones of each 1 and 2 .. only 1 of #2 hermied..

so i got rid of number 2 .. and now i have kiwi skunk #1 its a skunk selection not ment to be kiwi by anymeans.. i figure since this plant will not hermi by natural stresses. i would like to take some CS and get some pollen and make some fem seeds of this strain.. i love it..

if anyone has any idea what the lineage of this skunk is that would be great.. before i decide to use it for breedin purposes... !!!! kuz it is soo crystally .. and dense and smells nice and skunky but not too skunky.. but is potent as hell
The Kiwi Skunk marijuana strain crosses New York City Diesel with New Zealand Skunk to produce Indica-squatted plants.

serious seeds is from amsterdam, do you consider their genetics inferior to, lets say, caliconnection? what about mandala?

Ive grown 3 strains from Mandala and didnt like any of them. Sadhu was harsh and hard to grow, Mandala 1 lacked acceptable potency as did hashberry.

I havent grown anything from serious is a long time grownow. I just purchased a pack of Biddy Early. Its a good strain and of course it was a Magus strain for a long time. Its a nice plant with a good high and taste, but even it is susceptable to several funguses and doesnt handle serious bug attacks well. Its good smoke and i will grow it, but "vigorous and hardy" arent really terms i would use to describe it. I like serious seeds though. I like that they dont offer a new strain every week. I think theyre honest that way.

I havent grown any Cali connect.

Ive had a couple of strains from spain, Cannabiogen, that were nice. There are some good Cali and Canadian breeders.

Honestly for outdoor, i have never grown a strain from any company that can come close to the vigor and hardiness of several KC Brains strains. Ive had some of his strains grow 2' a week. Bug proof, disease proof. They are just amazing. Ive spent several grows of his strains with my jaw dropped at the vigor.

Ps. Ace gets a lot of praise. Im gonna order some Bangi Haze when its stocked.

useful Idiot, i hear you on the untested strains. It irritates me to read, " We think this cross will have some good pheno's....."" WTF!!! What do you mean you think... you dont know? If thats the case, fine. Charge 20$ for the beans and ill give em a try, but if i pay 100$ or more for beans, i want stability and consistency. I'll make f2's if im lookin for variation.

In fact, ive grown either KC33 or Spontanica every year since 97 and measure every other strain ive ever grown against them for hardiness and vigor, disease resistance and pest tolerance and ive grown probably 200 strains but Ive yet to find one i thought was an equal. Im sure there are some.

Im thinkin about ordering up some of that puny OG kush and pollen chucken with the 33

I personally think s.a.n.n.i.e.s. is one of the good ones. He offers some great strains for a very reasonable price and killer freebies every order. Just my opinion and experience. I havent grown a strain from him or freebie I wasnt extremely pleased with.

Any whats up with the censor on his name I thought that was lifted from TOU? If it is against any rules please let me know and I will edit my post.

One thing i felt like saying is that it isn't very hard to 'make' a crazy potent strain these days.
It doesn't take much skill, if any, i believe.

Sure, if you want to find a stable strain where the description is totally accurate then that will take some work and skill.
Or if you want to create something specific, that you had envisaged, that might also take work and skill.
But if you just want to create a definately potent cross with decent yields all you have to do is use 2 very good parents.
Which also, isn't hard to find in my opinion. Although some people might disagree, those who only want 'elite' cuttings.
I have only made a few home crosses so far and they have all turned out crazy.

My friends have very good weed growing. I have spent a lot of time finding reliable people that always have the best best best. And I do not have to always get the same stuff, as there are more than one person and they are diametrically opposed in effect (the weed is). I live in an area that produces a lot of weed and finding the right people took time. I would and could grow clones from both of those and include more. I think growing one strain is not a good idea. Sometimes you feel like a nut and sometimes you don't

Second that emotion

Second that emotion

I love popping seeds. Its the only way to find the next keepers. I have a lot of fun looking for them. Usally they only stay with me when found. Im not growing to find plants that will make me money..

I never lived where you could buy $100 seed packs or clones.
I just been saving seeds for as long as I been smoking. Used to sell them back to the dealer, once upon a time.

If you smoke good weed you'll find good seeds. Sure I might pop two dozen different seeds to find 1-2 real nice plant to keep. That is part of the fun of this hobby.

These days there are some amazing strain with over powering streanth. It's all good IMO. Taste and effect are what I'm after. Some stinky highbred that leaves you in a state of coma ain't really what I'm after. Sharing a smoke with friends you want to leave them feeling Iriee! Not wasted so much they become zombies.

Its just a herb. Jah blessed us with all the plants that bear seed.

You can keep your $500 an oz stuff. My vegging green leaves leave me smiling and looking for sweets & snacks.
All these seed vendors and commercial growers have just caused prices to increase. Wish I'd kept a seed from the Alcaupco gold I used to buy in $5 envelops back in the early 70's.

I like what the SeedHunters from Greenhouse Seeds are doing. Searching the planet for the best genetics and documenting their work.:ying::blowbubbles:

Am I alone in thinking that things are not what they used to be??? I have been growing for quite some time,I also admit that making seed back in the day was not my thing. I would grow em out and cull the males. BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART!!! I have ordered many things now adays from the same breeders and just feel ripped off. The stuff seems watered down and totally not the same. I won't name names but a few have even stated that AFTER taking our $$$$$ that it was not the same as it used to be.And even apoligized for the "mixup"!! I am fortunate to have been gifted some REAL skunk seeds from an ol timer, but I still seem to place orders for skunk this and that from time to time. What the hell has happened to the skunk line??? No skunk at all!!! Skunk was NEVER SWEET!!! Other than the high.I personally think that all the breeders crossing this and that have actually ruined some really good strains. I honestly feel that the $$ is the new thing......not the quality of the flowers. Yeah there are some things that I have grown recently that are decent but I really miss the power of some older stuff that has been raped away so to speak.Am I alone in this thought???View Image

you are dead right in what you say.i had the original Skunk 1 and others from SSSC in the early ninteys and to this day i have to say all the socalled skunk out there is total garbage compared to the SSSC Skunk 1 i had,all the SSSC strains that i got had hybrid vigor not like the bullshit hybrid vigor hype these days.as far as i am concerned 98% of socalled breeders these days just produce
average garbage.like you say these days it's all about bullshit and greed.:deadhorse

:tiphat: hello
have you done any of kc brains indoor? i have been trying to decide....

I started growing to have my own stash.

3 years on and I am ditching commercial seed stock for now. As an indoor grower on a micro scale you can continue to buy seed from proven sources and yield doable smoke.

For me, now I'm learning to grow seeded stock. Careful planning, loads of time will give me a new level of enjoyment of my hobby.

Genetics is cool.

It's interseting how the dankity dank demand has shaped the seed market demand, with notable exceptions to be sure.

Mabey soon we'll see the seed of the month club, lol.

I cross long leaf lanky dudes to sticky, chunky girls. I love it!

Shit Hammer...you take the time to test things......just to donate them to server fund and such. I think that says something about you. I have admired your work with the plant since I joined this site. Testing seeds before GIVING them away. I tip my hat to you sir.:tiphat:

yup defo it makes me laugh how breeders can drop lists of all the elites they have and what crosses should they drop for the punters (without even testing) but still charge at the going rate.

you can not just breed plants because they are clone onlys and expect them to be good, some parents just are not compatible at all and can create nasty stringy offspring which dont resemble either parent...

you gotta let the fanboys and suckers be who and what they are,it never seems to amaze me how many of these so called breeders start off on other sites trading, scamming ,and whatnot to get shit, breakout and then show up selling shit untested and people buy it based on a few pics and promotion, but peeps can can buy what they want if they happy with it.Really happy though with some of the recent listings at cool prices!

This is a very long answer to your question. North American skunk, which is where skunk originated, is the traditional skunk you want. When the strain was brought over to the Dutch, they bred it into some sweet-type of thing. Dutch skunk and North American skunk are two TOTALLY different things. If you want the traditional skunk-smelling skunk, go with a Canadian breeder. It hasn't been too diluted...yes there's shit like "island sweet skunk," but some companies still have the traditional ass-smelling skunk that we all know and love. Skunk in Amsterdam, from say Sensi, is totally different from a traditional skunk from someone like BCSC.
Do some research my man! You'll find what you're looking for.
Also, to make matters even worse, people in Europe call EVERY strain that isn't garbage "skunk" now. Like we call it nugz...they'll be like "hey any skunk?"
Europe has a tendency to weird things up.
