Old Genetics for Outdoor Grows

It finished October 2nd at 45n and I mean actually done. No mold issues but it was a very dry fall. But it had those kinda pyramid style buds that are less prone to mold. They don't run together so much. Yield was just average.

Here's what I wrote in the next gen thread I tried a bunch of their stuff last year. I think avalon is 3rd one down:

All finish times are at 45 north.

The dynamite was very good. Wish I had more. Fin Oct 2nd

snowbank was huge and stinky. Finished Oct 12th

Afghan kush also was a huge producer I pulled this about a week early I was worried about getting ripped growing in the city... the lower buds I left for another week I think smelled a lot better. All of them stank it's just the early ones I didn't like the smell.
Finished 28 sept should given another 5-7days

Avalon was the suprise of the season. Blueberry x hasplant cross. The most relaxing no anxiety weed. Nice dense nugs. Had the "blue" smell.
Fin Oct 2nd

Timewarp was bullet prof and produced tons. Only complaint is it's a bit leafy. Stinks a lot hard to describe the smell. Absolutely caked in crystals.
Fin Sept 28th

Purple romulan was nice grew tall towers of colas. Fin oct 5th

Purple kush was good it got stuck on the north side and got less light. Nice stone on this one no anxiety. Fin oct 2nd
Did it smell strongly? Unfortunately I have close neighbors and I'd rather they not know about it so I mostly choose low to medium odor strains.

I also had a dry fall but my other strains except Durban had a lot of bud rot. I was too lazy to spray though so they would've done better if I had.

I would say like 4 out of 10 for smell. The Snowbank and timewarp were a lot smellier.
Buds smelled nice in the jar though.

If you don't mind me asking whose Durban did you use and when did it finish? I'm going to try the bulk seeds Dubai poison this year. Yes it's really called that. We'll see lol...

Did the Avalon have any head effects or was it just body? I'm looking for a strain with strong body effects with a relaxed/calm/sleepy effect but no energetic/heady effects. Were any of the other strains you grew like this? I was also taking a look at their Afghan Kush.

The Durban was from Sensi Seeds. It finished October 25th at 42 north. It had a giggly, happy high but not what I would call energetic (but no couchlock either). It had a little mold but not as much as my other strains, and we also had a dry fall. It may have finished a little earlier if I had gotten them in the ground sooner, but I forgot about them and didn't transplant from solo cups to in ground until July.

Avalon didn't have any heady high but it wasn't couchlouch either. I know that sounds weird. It was just really relaxing.

The purple kush from next gen would be something you could take a look it. I'm planning on doing it again this year. Giving it a better spot. It was also very relaxing a little couchlock too. It's not purple unless you leave it in the cold.

The afghan kush was a yielder and it stank a lot. I didn't like the smell but like I said I picked it a week early. The buds I left for another week smelled a lot better. This one was very couchlock though.

Which of the three is your favorite? And the Grape has both body and mind effects and the Zacatecas is more upbeat? And what do you mean by saying the Satellite has "not the clearest sativa high"?
Hard to pick a favorite here.
When I feel under pressure and have little time before going to bed, I'll prefer Green Mountain Grape.
When I am able to enjoy the smoke while walking or meeting friends I'll prefer Zacatecas Tribute or the Purple Satellite.
What do I mean with not the clearest sativa high? Try a Thai or Colombian or African Sativa from closer to the equator or the Haze - this I call clear Sativa high. The opposite would be foggier?
But it's hard to find a Sativa that you can harvest early and has a clear sativa high. So the Green Mountain strains are gold.

I've done a lot of those mentioned outdoors. Bc bud depot pinewarp, next gen texada time warp. Pine tar kush. 79 Xmas bud. Never was blown away by any of them. All good but nothing killer Nothing with much body buzz except the 79 Xmas. That stuff is pure Afghan indica full blown body buzz smoke. End of Sept finish. Short squatty plants.

Thanks for the details. I did read that Green Mountain Grape is more suitable for evenings than the other strains, which makes sense since it has some indica in it.

I'm leaning towards the Purple Satellite right now because I really want the mold resistance and early harvest. I have tried an African strain (Durban from Sensi Seeds) and I guess I would say it was clear in the sense that I didn't feel any couch lock or body sensations.

From what I've read, there's more praise for the Mountain Gold than the other Green Mountain strains, but that one takes till mid-October so I'm not inclined to try it myself. Someone on another forum said they did a guerilla grow of it and came back to harvest it and it had zero mold though, so maybe I'll reconsider it. Are you ever planning to grow it?

What date did you harvest your Zacatecas Tribute? That one that has the least grow/smoke reports, but Vermontman himself said he harvests it September 21st at 42 N.

Did you grow just the straight up Avalon or the Avalon CBD? I checked Next Gen Seeds and they have both, with the CBD version having 4-5% CBD in addition to 19-22% THC.

Awesome, great to have you at the table!

What do you think about the BC Pinewarp specifically? I assume from your post the potency was okay, but were the plants as big and hardy as advertised?

I've never grown Erdbeer before, but I've heard it described as "lacking potency" in a few places and can't figure out how it'd been so popular and legendary if that was the case. I can't fathom such a once popular and now sought after strain being similarly lacking to them old brick weed middies from back in the day.
I smoked hundreds of grams of Erdbeer about 25 years ago when I lived on the Swiss border. We called it "Fraise". For me, and for my friends, it didn't lack potency, like many Swiss varieties. But that's just my opinion...

What'd you think of it? How was the high?

Worthy of all the nostalgia and lore surrounding it?

It certainly didn't have the potency of today's hybrids, but it was still good. A good balance of cerebral effect and body stone. But above all, the taste and smell were excellent. There was no mistaking it, it smelled like strawberries...

I'd be happy to have a few more grams today. There might be a bit of nostalgia in there too!

Order some Strawberry Gold from Buena hierbas - and you will get free Erdbeer seeds with it.

That's Ierdbei, a Frysian repeo which is a bit different from the original Swiss Erdbeer. Also contains Black Domina and Jack Herer.

If you want something more close to the original clone you can also check Seedsheaven. They carry a repro of Knospe's version of Erdbeer:

"Swiss classic, worked and saved in seed form by my friend Knospe. 2/3th are good representation of the clone.

She combines two traits like there is no other: hardiness & resistance and compact buds. When she starts budding you will directly notice she is not like the others. The way she builds those buds is a recipe for little rocks."

She's relatively potent, but had a bit boring stone for my taste. Also a bit bland taste, nothing strawberry at all. But hardy as they come.

I just read the description of Seedsheaven. It must not be the same one, because the one called "Fraise" definitely smelled like strawberries. I'd like to find an explanation for that...
