Official DEA Statement on Medical Marijuana

Recently the Department of Justice issued new guidelines regarding the use of federal resources in investigations and prosecutions in states that have passed laws authorizing the use of marijuana for medical purposes. In response to the new guidelines, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issued the following statement:

“DEA welcomes the issuance of these clarifying guidelines pertaining to the use of federal investigative and prosecutorial resources in states that have enacted laws authorizing the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

"These guidelines do not legalize marijuana. It is not the practice or policy of DEA to target individuals with serious medical conditions who comply with state laws authorizing the use of marijuana for medical purposes. Consistent with the DOJ guidelines, we will continue to identify and investigate any criminal organization or individual who unlawfully grows, markets or distributes marijuana or other dangerous drugs. Those who unlawfully possess firearms, commit acts of violence, provide drugs to minors, or have ties to other criminal organizations may also be subject to arrest.

"As these guidelines point out, marijuana remains a top revenue source for the Mexican drug cartels that are wreaking havoc in Mexico and along the Southwest Border. Accordingly, DEA will continue to disrupt and dismantle these drug trafficking organizations.”

Yet it can all be solved with making it completly legal...No more underground dealing.

How hard is it to understand.

My government is addicted to bullshit.

I'm wondering if this will force the DEA to revise its policies in OTHER COUNTRIES.

You realize the DEA is present (has offices) in nearly every country on the planet?

In every country they spread their lying propaganda, orchestrate huge anti-pot campaigns (UK & Holland two recent examples), provide intel, money and resources to bust marijuana growers and users.

And due to their international presence and legal authority they can themselves be biggest smugglers and drug pushers in the world and do so with impunity.

What has the DEA done to stop the Afghanis from growing opium and turning it into heroin?

Answer: Absolutely NOTHING!

Yet cannabis is the fight they choose, no doubt cause they are truly wimps who only want to do the EASY busts.

Let's send a squadron of say 5,000 DEA agents to Afghanistan for a "green harvest" there. If they can stand up to the Taliban (a fight I'd love to see!)

Chances are everything they confiscate would end up on the streets of the USA as heroin, as usual.

They just need to give up on busting marijuana, and stick to the real criminals..ie methamphetamine pushers from mexico, cocaine from mexico, heroin from wherever, and stop selling the drugs they confiscate back to american citizens, or any other citizen for that matter... DEA is the biggest drug cartel in the world...no doubt in my mind.. overgrow the DEA...:joint:

Hmm this is a very interesting word from them. I like how they put marijuana in a different category then hard drugs. To them its usually the same. But basically they're saying "oh I guess this is the official time where we say we're gonna play by the rules."

executive memos cannot void an act of cong. us sup ct has upheld in raich v ashcroft & gonzales v. raich...
memos can be ignored... the actual l@ws are controlling... executive branch (administrative agencies can only enforce l@ws) has 'clarified' the priorities, they cannot unilaterally declare acts of cong unenforceable: separation of powers...

Many non-taliban afgani people grow poppy, so if the US started spraying their fields, we would only be creating more taliban members, they know this and thats why they leave them alone.

Other than that, the more enemies the DEA creates, the bigger their job becomes requiring more money. Its only human nature that one wants to grow and expand what they spend most of their life doing, it makes one feel successful. How can you feel successful about what you are doing if your funding is getting cut and your buddies are loosing their jobs, even if success means making criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens.

Controlling the DEA starts with your local sheriffs, they and only they have the power to arrest federal agents, its just that most of them don't know it or are too spineless to actually do it. If the sheriffs don't do anything, the locals being arrested don't get pissed at the sheriff, so there is no consequences for them not doing their job. They need consequences. (jamming their phone lines and face to face appearances complaining in large numbers so to attract media attention)

So true!!! Unfortunately I'm a victim of this fucked up system they have in place as I got addicted to vicodin from teeth problems and that turned into oxycontin addiction and then heroin since it's cheaper than the pills. A few years ago out of my groups of friend there was a total of 4-5 people out of 100 that were into opiates and the rest were like fuck you guys that's grose I can't be your friend if you do that... Holly Shit! Are things a bit different now! 75% of the people that used to talk shit about opiates are hardcore heroin users and it seems like it happened over night. Me and a few of my buddy's have talked about it a few times and there wasn't that much heroin on the west coast before the war and I think that's saying something....:fsu:

Those who unlawfully possess firearms, commit acts of violence, provide drugs to minors, or have ties to other criminal organizations may also be subject to arrest.

So basically.... the status quo goes on. Any collectives, co-ops, or dispensaries who serve minors legally are still to be targets of arrest.. or technically any that "distributes marijuana" period. Their use of the word "unlawfully" is confusing: are they referring to state law or Federal law? If it's the latter than, as I said, they will just keep the status quo and there will be more Charlie Lynches to arrest.

It's nice rhetoric, Obama DOJ, but until the laws and treaties and shit are changed, nothing changes.

Fuck the DEA. Taxpayer subsidized criminals who smash and grab to fuel their ever expanding presence at home and abroad. End the War on Drugs.

skip....opium production fell to 5% under the taliban
(or teachers) usually afghanistan puts out 90%, they kill opium farmers... bet your azz dea, cia and air america are working hard over there. (opium/hash/weed in vietnam, arms for contras, freeway ricky ross, on and on-the MFer's arent any different than anyone else, except for the righteous indignation)

thundr- for sure! sounds like weve seen the same thing...tru

im wondering if the dea is is saying...were going to focus on the cartels (mexicans- always the target...isnt that one reason why they banned marijuana originally? hows that working for you?) either way, i welcome the use of tax payer dollars to stop mexi drug dealers, i just wish they'd shoot more of em instead deporting over and over. less of them means less better economic conditions for local growers.

please excercise your rights or lose them.

From what I know the cartels in mexico control the heroin market on the west coast and that's why you only find tar out here and not china white, my guess is they want to stop the artels so they can flood the market with all that "Worldwide War on Terror Dope Nigga" they've been bringing back with them from over there but that's just my 2 cents on it...

How about encouraging us small time and local growers to step up production so that can take the cartels and their crappy weed out of business.
