Nice setup guys, but how many watts pr. sq.feet.
Could be overkill?
I agree looks like a shitload of bulbs there 💡
I'm picking thats probably why your camera can't handle it lol :yoinks:
My rig is under the recommended 30w psqf but I'm happy as with the results I got for my 1st experimental with these bulbs, also found some strains don't handle the intensity as well as others:fright:

How the heck are you guys getting pics inside your tent/cabinets? I have to stand like 8' away from my cabinet or else my phone camera goes crazy with black lines everywhere lol

Its never overkill. ;)

You see the same thing with 600w+ HPS setups and phone cameras  Great wiring work! There's really no way around the lines without getting a quality camera - and even then, you still get them occasionally. When I was running brighter lights (30w per sqft), I would pull plants out and shoot them elsewhere. The lines tend to go away around 20w per sqft, but its less fun.

I'm still adapting to my tiny 8 sqft space, but heres what 20w per sqft of 4000k bulbs does to a Kaya clone at its 12 week chop:

Amazing thread, inspired me to finally get something of my own going!
Currently have 18 10w bulbs(12 3k & 6 5k) with the room to add 20 more light sockets if need be. Going in a 32"x32"x6' cabinet

I have a couple things I want to change with the cab, but I got some time while I germinate 4 random bag seeds

Hey HeC, you have an amazing setup, very neat, I also like the idea of mixing color temperature! Probably my next grow i try whit 5k bulbs mixed whit 3k bulbs.

I'm italian we use the metric system but i try to convert.
In m : I have a 0,80cmx0,80xm GB, is 6,89 sqfeet i think, i have 21w for sqfeet.

Its never overkill.

Point your camera down so the light is not directed at the lens to get rid of lines. Angle that phone to the ground instead of straight ahead

I have about 10000 lumen in my 35x35x60cm tent... so 9000 - 10000 lumen per sqft?

4x20w 2452lm bulbs and 1 bulb that changes every now and then, sometimes it's a 25w UVB CFL and sometimes an 18w Philips Flowering LED.

Finally made something with all those sockets I ordered. Veg Light? Lol.

Not shown is it completed. I finished it up and am using it to start seedlings with.

:)

Terpene that's some beautiful looking plants. I'm about to build 2 led panels to replace my added CFLs. Thanks for all the info/knowledge.

Hi guys,
another update from 144w led bulb panel test.
Bud's are ok but i'm expect it to swell well.

For now plant looking good.
This is 47 day after switch 12-12, probably 37 day effective flower.
Some plant like the Skunk, GG(false) and OGK have 7-8 week of flowering, i think i can respect this seedbank time.

I'm watching for buy 12 led bulbs 20 watt. 2550 lmns, they need 90€ in amazon. Probably i use this next run!

Hi to all guys!

Lots of screw in leds..

I like the idea, but is it possible to buy just the PCB (& ballast?) that is in the same bulbs, but in bulk and a much cheaper price?

That way you could skip the sockets altogether and just solder and wire the chips to a panel or frame. Seems like that could save even more money.. maybe not though? Might as well just screw em in for a few extra bucks right..

I guess one reason I ask is I want to supplement part of my 8 lamp t5 veg fixture. This seems a lot cheaper than buying those led t5 tubes. If I removed 2 bulbs on each side I could run 2 strips with the low profile LED pcbs, and plug them into the daisy chain socket of the T5.

I don't have the room to add sockets sticking down underneath or on the sides.

Suppose I could do away with the whole thing and use the LED bulbs in the cab instead. I sure do like my t5s though..

Mr. Sparkle

just to add here even if already posted in my own threads.

Here is a recent finish of mine using "4x8w" for a total of 32w of Philips non dim-able bulbs.

Got 33.5grams in 59days total "autos on 18/6" from 36.5kwh of energy which was everything included such as lights, fans, pumps, and controls.

have to say they work pretty good.

I was PMed for a scalable screw in LED system that looked clean without totally breaking the bank.

The cheapest way to build these lights is cleated sockets on strips of wood. What if you want a more professional looking series of panels without visible wires?

Attach a plug and a couple yo-yos/light hangers to satin nickel bathroom vanities with as many 14w-18w screw in LED bulbs as there are sockets. Order by number of rows needed to cover grow space (rows on roughly 10-12 inch centers).

18 inch satin panel, 3 light

24 inch satin panel, 4 light

36 inch satin panel, 6 light

48 inch brushed nickel panel, 8 light

60 inch brushed nickel panel, 10 light

You can run these lighting strips lengthwise or widthwise depending on the types of plants you run. Monoculture / clone / uniformly developing canopies would run lengthwise strips where those who run mixed height plants would run widthwise for height adjustability. As an example, in a 2'x4' tent you could run two 48" panels or four 24" panels to cover the same area. Either way you end up with sixteen lights over a 2'x4' and roughly 30w/sqft.

This design was inspired by the mad geniuses in the DIY COB threads, though you'll spend/do a lot less building these panels.

Yo Terp,

Thanks for all you do, as well as the rest of ya'll who have shared the knowledge in this thread!

My question is would you still recommend this cheap setup with as many 14w-18w and 30w per sq ft? What about kelvin?

Thanks all!

I've noticed that stretch under LEDs is almost non-existent, it doesn't differ much from a normal rate of veggy stage growth, so no problem with sativas, and you can always crush and bend the stems :)

You are using cool lights for flowering right? The blue spectrum reduces the stretch after switching to 12/12.

I'm 43 days into flowering a couple of sativas that were vegging 29 days with heights of 8 cm and 10 cm (3 inches and 4 inches if you are wondering) prior to the switch to flowering, now they stand at 43 cm and 28 cm (17 inches and 11 inches).

When I switched to 12/12 I changed the "blue" 6500K bulbs for "red" 2700K ones; and as you can see they stretched between 3.5 and 4.3 times their original heights.

Maybe is a combination of your particular strain plus the cool light you are using in flower?

In one closet I have cool spectrum, in other two mixed and there is not much difference

It could be the combination of many things, for example that 10 cm plant you have put into flowering is too small and not yet at the stage of explosive growth, I switched mine after more than a month of veg and I observed almost no stretch (difference) when compared to veg stage rate of growth... I don't know just noticed that... it also has much to do with repotting time and size of the pot

My point is I'm not satisfied with the stretch lol :D From now on I'm gonna repot two days before flipping the switch, and not when the stretch almost ends, like I did till now...
