It's better be at least 2 feet above your plant, or you'll cook it.

You can lower the light if the seedling is stretching too much, but you can damage your plant if the light is too close.

You might be right. Idk how accurate the lux apps are but I just tested one and this b saying I got 20 thousand lux at 12". It's looking a little strechy that's why I was trying see how low I can go. I'm just do 20" and see how it goes.

HIDs are old school.
They're just heaters. Lol

You may want to consider LED for your whole grow...

That's what the greenhouses are doing.

Lol they are. My 315 raises my 5x5 about 5-10 degrees which is good for me in the winter. That lamp firing up is satisfaction you can't get with LED. I got an HLG 550 just don't know if it's worth firing it for one seedling.

20K is a lot. I can veg with that. 8K is fine while it gets it's act together. 4K would be miserable and 12K pushing it along.

There is an issue with what it is though. I believe a thin leaf variety to be more accustomed to equatorial conditions. While a broad leaf will collect light from a few candles :)

I'm going old-school incandescent for heat... 2 sixty Watt bulbs.
I've got 100 Watt bulbs if it gets really cold.

It keeps my wine/CO2 generator happy too...

She looking much better than mine. How old ? My baby still fighting with the shell. I usually take it off for them but this time I'm let it go all natural. It's looking like she gonna be all natural dead here in a couple days. We'll see.

you try drops of water on the stuck shell? a little spray and drops of water on the helmet a few times a day has worked for me

Put a drop water or hydrogen peroxide on the shell. With five minutes carefully pry it off with a need point or tweezers you may have to gently hold the trunk...stem...whatever. If it doesn't come easy then drop water again. Best sure to get the skin looking stuff that's under the hard shell also.

I started my seed December 28th.

I did what was mentioned, and removed her helmet.

... how low can I hang a 50watt 5000 lumens bulb over my seedling. I'm not removing the cover just want some low light for a couple weeks before I turn on my 315cmh.

These are my SIL plants...
4700 lumens total.
The lights can be closer once the plants get bigger.

A lot of close lighting can give your plant close node spacing.

You may want that for a small cab.

This was a plant of mine that had five 800 lumen bulbs (globes removed) at about 12" above the plant.

Did you tread on it? it looks like a rosette. Rosetting (sp) is a thing. A deficiency sign. Ca or P perhaps. At this point I would be reaching for an incandescent lamp to get some far red illumination on the top. That could trigger the

Oh it's snowing!! (I know it's nothing new there, but here it's mystical still)

I don't know?
All I could figure was that it was the lighting?
Maybe it was strain related? I don't remember what strain it was.

That plant was from May 2019.
This is her at six weeks...

She looks really healthy but she's all stumpy. Lol
