I've replaced halogens with LED GU5.3's

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Bulbrit...+br:{bulbrite}:br+dln:{541989}+qu:{771321}:qu

Even in an open fixture they get pretty hot, and not much of a spread. Plus they seem expensive... but they are so much better than halogens, lol!

The trick is to not get the spotlight ones, but the wide flood ones. spotlights have about a 10-degree spread, whereas wide spotlights are between 60 and 90 degrees

But the temperature is the biggest deal. Keeping it down is key. I think at that point my next move really would be building LED strips with the driver outside the cab.

Tangelo Final Weight 1 plant 92.5g or 3.26oz

Final weight for the one 2' x 4' tent = 584g or 20.65 oz. 584g/612w = .95grams/watt. Good enough for me. I'm sure if I had the new 12w 1600lm SIL's that gram/watt would be better. I'm sure it would cost at least $5 per bulb x 72 bulbs to upgrade to new the ones in each tent. I don't have the extra $360 to drop at the moment but tax return is right around the corner. Better SIL's would cost me probably a good $1000 less then trying to buy commercial LED grow lights or rig up cobs or strips for 32 square feet.

There's more final harvest photo's in the Two SIL Tents thread linked in my signature if any one wants to check it out.

This space is about 16" x 20". I have two 17.5 watt fiet 5000k bulbs lighting it. I feel like it could use at least one more. It kind of works though. This is the middle of my experimental plant. I'm going to attempt to flower those branches that I've passed though the walls of this box while keeping the middle in VEG. Strain is Lemon Meringue. The topped branch in the front and center with 3 growths on it is a GG#4 scion that I grafted in some time ago now.

How is that GG#4 grafting hold up?

Really good thanks. I was able to take a cut from it to graft onto my MOMF (mom of many flavors) and it’s got 3 good growths now. I successfully grafted all my strains onto one host. Check out my current thread.

That's a fact! :tiphat:

Except that it's not a fact. The HLG kits would cost approx twice as much for equal total wattage SILs. Also the HLG kits are close to twice as efficient, so you'd get a lot more light out of the deal. Just sayin.

I don't know what the HLG stuff cost but I can build 1400 watts worth of SIL fixtures for $310. Using Home Depot, eBay and the dollar store. And, I can build those fixtures to any dimensions I want. I'm not sure any kits can match that.

If I used 20w spots that I can source locally, I'd spend about 1300€ on 1400 watts (just the bulbs). Time is also money, I'd spend hours (days?) building a 1400w SIL fixture lol.

1400W/(20W/bulb) = 70 bulbs
1300Eur/70 bulbs = 18.6 eur/bulb = 20.4 usd/bulb

you live in gold country?
amazon = 6-7 usd/bulb most expensive
aliexpress = 11usd/6pack = 1.8 usd/bulb
:laughing:

why free hate?

I agreed with that part.
But you said:

say that again, but slowwerr...

Joke aside, this thread is about Off the shelf retail store SIL .
When you order from ebay or amazon, you also have shipping and custom taxes to deal with. And everything can and will be traced.
Not all growers are from usa or Europe, so some parcels will cross many borders.
You also have something called exposure (security wise), 'cause you'll have all kind of people and bodies snooping their snouts into your shit and personal data, not like when you're buying them off the shelf anonymously.
So that and the cost effective aspect makes them appealing to me and a couple of dudes, a lot better and safer in my opinion then having a specialised grow light coming my way with my name on it.
You might love the idea to look good on a tv bust with cool expensive lights, but in the can the lights are fluorescent and when they go off you better have some fancy victoria's secret hand creme or somethin' to ease the consequences.
I better spend a couple of bucks and some time and effort to tinker a bit on a SIL pannel then spend a shitload of money on attorneys, more time and a lot more effort to stay alive, healthy and free.
How's that for effectiveness?
I remember (never forgot, actually) some of the growers ground rules indicating risks such as overspending and security. Bend those rules and will break, I see it every day.
It's like working with high power current or dangerous substances, all it takes is one mistake.
Just sayin.
Anything you'll say can and will be used against you... :2cents:
