Notcoolzeuss' first grow. Very Aggressive. 16 clones, all Reeferman strains

Hey everyone. I'm a former OGer blah blah blah. I'm here now, and not going anywhere. I'm in the middle of my very first grow after 12+ years of smoking cheap schwag and middies(I hate that word!!!!), and paying waaaay too much for good bud which isn't even all that good. I don't know why it took me so long, but I finally decided to take matters into my own hands.

I have a good buddy who was kind enough to offer me a bit of advice, and 16 unrooted cuttings from his garden. All 16 are Reeferman strains. 4 Willie Nelson, 4 Love Potion, 4 G13xBlack Widow, and 4 Vipers.
I'll try and outline my grow as simply as possible. I have a tendency to go into way too much detail, so forgive the length of this post.

Medium- 50% Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil, 25% Fox Farm Perlite, 25% Worm castings.

Cab- Not a sealed cab, so no need to vent. I built a 4x4 box, that is about 6 feet high, with no roof. Here's a pic from when I started to build it.

Here's the completed cab with the lights on

The room that the cab is in is 6ft x 18ft, and is vented, although quite passively. It's just a small fan blowing air out a square opening at the top of the door. The space underneath the door is big enough to be a passive intake. It's all just to circulate the CO2 and O2, because my temps are always money.

Lights- You can see my lights in the pic above. I have a 400 watt MH, and a 400 watt HPS. I have a small box with 108 watts of cfls, but that was used very briefly.

Temps- My temps with the lights on ranges from 70-80 degrees F. Lights off, anywhere from 53-61 degrees F. The temps are a little low with the lights off, but I hope that helps bring out a little purp if the strains have it in them, and also I hope this helps them get extra frosty towards the end of flower.

Ferts and Nutes- I have been going VERY light on the ferts and nutes. They were given Liquid Karma and Superthrive all throughout veg, but those are micronutes only. That got 1 50% strength feeding of Fox Farms Growbig just before I switched to 12/12. And they got their first feeding of 25% strength Fox Farm Bigbloom and Tigerbloom a few nights ago. They have shown no signs at all of burn, which is what I was hoping for. That's why I went so light on everything. As far as I can tell, they show no deficiencies. I did overwater two of them when I transplanted, but I aerated the soil, and they both look much better now. The water I use is just tap water, but I fill a 5 gallon container, and leave it out for at least 48 hours to let some of the bad stuff dissipate(spelling?).

Hmmmmm. what else?

Time- When they were given to me, they were each about two inches high. Although some rooted quicker and easier than others, they all had rooted by week 3. Total veg time from the day I got them was 4 weeks. I got them on New Year's Day, and flipped to 12/12 on 1/28. When I flipped, they ranged in height from 7 inches to 12 inches. I'm hoping that none of them finish much higher than 3 feet. Right now, the tallest are 28 inches high, and the shortest are 12 inches, but bushy as all hell.

The friend that gave me the clones stopped by on 1/21, and his friggin jaw dropped. He said that he was never able to get such short node length in 5 years of growing. Obviously, this made me VERY HAPPY. :jump:

I think that I'm doing pretty good for my first grow, but I certainly can't take all the credit. I had a lot of help from all of you fellow growers out there in cyberspace. THANK YOU!!!

Here are some pics.

Thank you Sleepy. I think that you have given me compliments several times now. Lots a good Karma floatin around ICmag, whether it's documented or not. You guys rock!!

The 18 feet thing. The actual cab is 4 feet by 4 feet with about 4 feet of vertical clearance before they would hit my Metal Halide reflector. My HPS can be raised to give them 6 feet of vertical space, but the Metal Halide cannot be hung any higher than it already is, alas. I wish I had gotten a remote ballast for that thing. Which reminds me, does anyone know if it is possible to rewire a Metal Halide so that it does kind of have a remote ballast?
I can provide details of what type of MH light it is later tonight, which I'm sure you'll need before answering my question. If I could somehow store the ballast for that light outside of the actual cab, I could raise both lights high enough to give me six feet of vertical clearance. That's why I started flower at 12 inches. I had heard that most MJ will triple in height after flower induction. Obviously, the strain and pheno have a lot to do with it as well. They may be short, but they have a ton of budsites. I counted the budsites on my biggest Viper last night, and there were 28!!!!! I guess you could say that this is kind of a SOG, but I haven't been able to keep my canopy uniform because of the different strains. I have used both the MH and HPS right from the get go. I know MH is better for veg, and HPS is better for flower, but I decided 800 watts is better than 400 watts no matter what type of HID. I just rotate them frequently so that they all get even amounts of all of the light spectrums.

Hey Notcoolzeuss,
Whoa dude, so nice to see this little grow of yours!
You are the first grower I've seen to do the Viper. Rm's description sounds verrry good.. did the donor of the clones tell you what the finished product is like?
Right now I'm doing RM's Willijuana (Vietnamese black x Burmese Pure) and it seems our plants are both heavy branchers with lots of bud sites.
Wow, I bet your Vipers are gonna smell fuckin' awesome... keep it up! Speedy..

Hiya ncz - really nice show you have here - an all rm grow   you're gonna have a very nice haul shortly. :joint: :joint: Gonna pull up a seat....

Cheers -

Thanks guys. Obviously I'm very excited. Speedy, funny you should ask about the clone donor. He had only harvested the Willie previously. The cuttings he gave for the other three strains were his first attempts as well. He grows most of his stuff in a barn, and a few plants in his basement. Well, about a week after he brought me the cuttings, he had an electrical mishap. The power to his barn had gone out, and it wasn't on for four days. Where I live, that's not good. He lost 90% of his crop. The temps were just too low for too long. He took any plants that managed to survive into his basement, because he's not good with electricity, and there's a short in the wiring somewhere. He figured he'd fix the barn in the spring. Then, after that, the plants left in his basement developed mold, and he lost everything. I feel really bad for the guy. He's a good friend, and been my only source of homegrown for years. He doesn't sell ever, but he'd always give me some samples. MMMmmmmmmmmm. Yummy. Anyways, he is obviously stoked that he gave me the cuttings before he lost everything. Then on top of that, I was so excited to flower my girls, that I forgot to take clones for him. Ouch! It's cool though, because he doesn't even want to start anything back up til summer, and I plan on revegging these girls after harvest. So I'll be able to give him back cuttings so he can carry on the bloodline. So I will be giving him smoke reports on the Viper, Love Potion, and G13xBlack Widow. I did have a chance to sample some harvested Willie that he grew last winter. Wow!! That was really good. I'm so psyched that I'm gonna have four different strains!! Variety is the spice of life.

I think I see a hermie in one of those pictures.

Nice try Stretch. You're just messing with me after you read my other post about Hermies. I wasn't freaking out or anything. It's just that I did so much reading and research before attempting my first grow, and I feel like I know a decent amount. But since I've never dealt with sexing plants, I was a little afraid that I would get a hermie, and not realize it until it was too late, and he knocked up all my beautiful sensimilla girls. I just wanted to make sure I was taking the proper precautions to prevent it. After reading everyone's posts in the other thread, I'm not worried at all. If the main cause of hermies is light irregularity and high temps, I definitely won't have issues, because I have already addressed those issues. I'm totally chill now. Maybe I freaked because I'm out of bud right now, and I'm waiting on other people as usual, and no one seems as motivated to get high as me. My life story. Well, it won't matter in two months.

You did freak me out there for a second, but then I recognized your distinctive bold print.

notcoolzeus are you in a band by any chance?

I wish. I'm a music lover, but I can't even bang on the steering wheel in rythm, let alone play an instrument. So, no, I'm not in a band.

so far so good............your garden looks healthy & robust................a most rewarding harvest is in your future

be well

Here are some updated pics from tonight. I'm a little worried now, because I posted some pics on another thread, and was told that my stems are too thin, and my plants are scrawny, and they need some kind of ferts. Do you guys think that they're too scrawny?
I'm at day 19 of flower.

ncz - I think they look fine for their age. They will fill in later in flower. You're going to have a nice first harvest.
