Hey everyone. I'm a former OGer blah blah blah. I'm here now, and not going anywhere. I'm in the middle of my very first grow after 12+ years of smoking cheap schwag and middies(I hate that word!!!!), and paying waaaay too much for good bud which isn't even all that good. I don't know why it took me so long, but I finally decided to take matters into my own hands.
I have a good buddy who was kind enough to offer me a bit of advice, and 16 unrooted cuttings from his garden. All 16 are Reeferman strains. 4 Willie Nelson, 4 Love Potion, 4 G13xBlack Widow, and 4 Vipers.
I'll try and outline my grow as simply as possible. I have a tendency to go into way too much detail, so forgive the length of this post.
Medium- 50% Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil, 25% Fox Farm Perlite, 25% Worm castings.
Cab- Not a sealed cab, so no need to vent. I built a 4x4 box, that is about 6 feet high, with no roof. Here's a pic from when I started to build it.
Here's the completed cab with the lights on
The room that the cab is in is 6ft x 18ft, and is vented, although quite passively. It's just a small fan blowing air out a square opening at the top of the door. The space underneath the door is big enough to be a passive intake. It's all just to circulate the CO2 and O2, because my temps are always money.
Lights- You can see my lights in the pic above. I have a 400 watt MH, and a 400 watt HPS. I have a small box with 108 watts of cfls, but that was used very briefly.
Temps- My temps with the lights on ranges from 70-80 degrees F. Lights off, anywhere from 53-61 degrees F. The temps are a little low with the lights off, but I hope that helps bring out a little purp if the strains have it in them, and also I hope this helps them get extra frosty towards the end of flower.
Ferts and Nutes- I have been going VERY light on the ferts and nutes. They were given Liquid Karma and Superthrive all throughout veg, but those are micronutes only. That got 1 50% strength feeding of Fox Farms Growbig just before I switched to 12/12. And they got their first feeding of 25% strength Fox Farm Bigbloom and Tigerbloom a few nights ago. They have shown no signs at all of burn, which is what I was hoping for. That's why I went so light on everything. As far as I can tell, they show no deficiencies. I did overwater two of them when I transplanted, but I aerated the soil, and they both look much better now. The water I use is just tap water, but I fill a 5 gallon container, and leave it out for at least 48 hours to let some of the bad stuff dissipate(spelling?).
Hmmmmm. what else?
Time- When they were given to me, they were each about two inches high. Although some rooted quicker and easier than others, they all had rooted by week 3. Total veg time from the day I got them was 4 weeks. I got them on New Year's Day, and flipped to 12/12 on 1/28. When I flipped, they ranged in height from 7 inches to 12 inches. I'm hoping that none of them finish much higher than 3 feet. Right now, the tallest are 28 inches high, and the shortest are 12 inches, but bushy as all hell.
The friend that gave me the clones stopped by on 1/21, and his friggin jaw dropped. He said that he was never able to get such short node length in 5 years of growing. Obviously, this made me VERY HAPPY.
I think that I'm doing pretty good for my first grow, but I certainly can't take all the credit. I had a lot of help from all of you fellow growers out there in cyberspace. THANK YOU!!!
Here are some pics.
