OK OK I know, whats the rest of the story so far??? Well I apoligize because I have a 17 year old gal in the house that lets me use the puter every now an then. Well talkin with the old fella OK wait!! My bud is worried about transportin water to the grow because there is no runnin water. He got this property in a forclosure BTW. The bank says the old owners pumped water from the stream that runs through the property to the barn for the cattle. Well... Today dropping the veggies to the nosey guy he says" did you boys find the well yet"!! What??? He says yeah in like 1968,1969 they had a well drilled near that garage.SWEET!!! So he says i'll show ya where it's at as best as I can remember. Well guess what......HE FOUND IT!!!! I guess the folks that had the property cold not afford to replace the well pump when it blew...sooo they pumped from the stream with a cheaper pump, BTW, for the folks suggesting he get dogs and what not, there is no house here on this property and he will not be living here...good idea though.Investment property so to speak. So the ole feller says if your gonna be working on cars you should pipe water to the garage an you can drink it to because all the wells in this area are springfed.My bud was STOKED to hear this!! But he did'nt want me goin over to his house this mornin to give him some veggies??? Yeah he has changed his mind now. More later I promise!! There is more.

BTW.. don't think for a minute the we are trusting this ole feller. I am just saying his first impression REALLY pissed me off and now things have changed a bit. But my buddy is in no hurry to start the grow because he has me. He won't go without......trust me on that one.

Two Big DOGS would be a deterrent to the old man, did not say let the dogs eat him but just human nature's fear of barking dogs is enough to keep him back. Use a electric invisible fence for the dogs to remain on property. Works Wonders. Good Luck with the bored retired old man looking for a buddy.

Also I took down the lights and removed the ventilation system and we will be leavin the door open for awhile for when he shows up. I hung some cheap ass shop lights on the hi-low hangers and put his air compressor in the room as well. Can NEVER be too safe if ya know what I mean.

good move thats what i would have done now try to let him see in there sometime with shit like tge air compressor scattered about. then time to get some personal boundaries set up w this guy. meaning dont b so nice so he doesnt feel welcome

sounds like the more you know the more complicated things get .... the nice old bored guy does not sounds like your average useless pain in the ass, but that sure as hell does not simplify the whole situation. sounds like you are working on it the right way so time will tell. there is lots more to find out about the guy and every other neighbor before you turn lights on.

it would be funny as hell to find out that he is running a 200amp panel into his garage and has won the photo of the month (kinda doubt it ..... that would be like getting a royal flush on the deal)

Yeah Green that would be some funny shit. BTW He is the ONLY neighbor which is pretty cool. The other neighbor is about 1/2 mile down the road

Great thread,I'm impressed with the way you handled things. That one visit answered most of your questions and solved most of your problems.

You saved your self and your friend lots of stress and money,you don't have to turn the place into a compound,or wear leather chaps lol.

You successfully have turned the tables. They will be the good neighbor,watching over your property instead of watching you. His wife might even pay you to come by to fix things.

Your buddy owes you BIG and anyone reading this thread owes you k+ for showing proactive instead of reactive negotiation.

Remember:
The less you tell people the less there is a chance of getting tangled up in things/contradictions.
You might not remember telling your buddy every detail you told the nosy man.

When I read the first few of your posts I was asking myself "Why is OP not telling the nosy man he is a contractor getting this place ready for someone who bought it" and then told him "I am sorry sir but I need to get this job done and can't really pay more attention to you" which should have given him the message not to continue getting on your nerves.

Idle curiosity of the progress could be enough to cramp your style. Especially if he's interpersonal and likes the camaraderie. I realize there's implications to being rude to the guy. Another option might be to say the room is the wrong size and the owner decided to make it a storage room. Get the neighbors attention on something else.

It's great he's a good guy, not to mention a good neighbor. But he might be a bigger pain in the ass than Gladys Kravits. Best wishes.
