NoobwannaB's Fabric Pot SIP method (works with hard pots too)

Oh, I forgot to report.

I filled some reusable fiber grocery bags the other day. They take most part of a bag for two. So my 'handmade' bags are going to take some volume as they are at least 1/3 bigger, best I can tell.... haven't filled any of them yet though.

OH! I completely forgot to update my hand made fabric pot! I potted up my GDP in it...it was in a 3 gal smartie and needed the room...bad. So I used another 3 gal smart pot to measure the soil as I put it in to get an idea of how much soil it held. It took the original plant (3gal) plus 2-1/2 more pots. I filled it a couple of inches from the top, and left the folded over lip at the top, so my best guess is 10-12 gallons!

It's been a couple of weeks, and so far NO ROOTS coming out either. The plants I repotted into actual smart pot brand 7 gallon pots have 1" long roots already. Also there was some concern about the bottom not being flat because of the drawstring design. With the 'hem' on the inside, the soil is heavy enough that that isn't an issue. Here's a pic of the GDP I took earlier today (ignore the plant, have some cal def. issues with my soil- user error).

Anyway, it works, works well, holds a lot of soil, is cheap, and I WILL be making more ;)

How's the 'bagged' GDP doing?

Your thread was languishing, so I thought I'd ask about the bags, and bump it up.

I Bagged my babies (from 1 gal hard pots) to the fabrics, and got them on a Perlite bed. Got them done a couple days ago.

Hey 2 Legal, it's doing well! I made a terrible error when I mixed up my soil and it was terribly deficient in calcium, so a minor setback. A friend on the other forum helped me get it straightened out though so they've bounced back and are breaking out as beasties now ;)

I'm using an Eye Hortilux HPS and the light SUCKS for taking photos, so I went BW with this last batch and it doesn't bode well for detail either, but here she is none the less

And here, in color on the left

I've got some new 'trays' coming, and plan to break them up into single trays rather than group ones so I can remove them from the room and get natural light photos. The window in the grow room is blocked off so taking natural light photos without moving them is impossible.

Anyway, the 'bag' is VERY sturdy and holding up well! It's easily lifted by the top, and the bottom doesn't collapse or anything. I'm really happy with it! It's actually much more stable than it's smart pot brand counterpart.

Thanks for the bump, and I'm excited for you...you're gonna love it :)

Quick update on the DIY smart pot. Here's a better pic of my GDP girl sporting her fancy pot (shoulda put a bit of lace on it or something for her ;))

And here at the bottom you can see that the roots are just starting to peek out at the bottom.

What this tells me is that the roots can and will come through this material, but for some reason it takes a lot longer for them to do so. Still holding up well and wicking fine. In fact the fabric is so much stiffer than the smart pots I'm able to pick up the plant and carry it by gripping the top edges....I'd be afraid to do that with the smarties because the fabric is so flexible. Anyway...so far so good ;)

I've ordered and am waiting on 3 wheeled SIP planters from the depot of home. They're 27x24" (I think) and are a complete portable self contained self watering planter, but I plan to fill them with perlite rather than soil They cost $29/ea so they weren't cheap, but might just be worth it (plus I can always use them outdoors for veggies). Not sure how the link poilcy is on this forum so I'm afeared to post a link, but they're called City Picker garden system or something like that...and here's what it looks like

If there's an interest I can report back on how this works as well...JLMK.

Thanks for lookin.

Looking good!

I'm growing Jilly Beans this round so they aren't so large yet. Going to SCROG them of course, to maximize my minimize on the Sparks expended.

Haven't got the top changed on my shed yet, so I'm still using sparks from the grid.

Good times here.

It's a little old tin shed. I'm going to take the top offf and put on PolyCarbonate panels so it can act like a Green House. ..... But my supply of 'Round to its' is really low.

So I'm still burning T5 Floros.

Hey Mrs. Noob

I had to come in here and give credit where credit is due. I am on my first run with Mrs. Noobs ghetto wick system and I am loving it. I grow in organic soil using 7 gallon smart pots in the perlite trays. I have grown DWC before and can legitimately say I am getting similar growth rates with this system. I only have to fill the perlite trays every 4-5 days and I could probably go longer (I just get paranoid). Anyone who is thinking about giving this system a try should 100% definitely try it. Who among us soil makers don't have large amounts of perlite or vermiculite laying around? If anything just try it with one of your plants, it will impress you.

Hope you're having a good day Mrs. Noob :tiphat:

BTW Haggard, can you direct me to some links on these sprout teas? I've tried doing a search here but maybe I am not well versed enough yet to operate the search properly because I can't come up with much. Thanks!

:woohoo:Turned off the T5s yesterday!:woohoo:

Got the roof replaced on the shed, and put the children in there on a folding table, since they are only about a foot tall 'yet'. This morning they had their leaves raised high in the air, and have consumed about twice the water that they were drinking.

Even the radishes and squash have upped their stretch. Gotta get them in the bags and on the wicking beds too.

This is my first go with the sun providing the lumens.... I like it.... free lumens. Since I'm making my own seeds too, the costs are even further reduced. Makes my THC downright cheap. Doing Jilly Beans now, with more AK47 in the wings. Cookie Monster like AK47! It burns good too.

The Jilly is a good smoke just doesn't seem to have the staying power that the AK47 does however. Couple hours and it's mostly over.

Still a bit chilly here at night. Woke up to 42*F in the GH/shed this morning.

That's AWESOME Legal! I'd KILL for a set up like that...well, maybe not kill, but you know ;)

I'm excited for you!

Hey Seaf0ur!

I'm not around these parts much...I have to use an app because the site drags on my ipad for some reason, and the app leaves a lot to be desired, so....
There's LOTS of good information here to be found, esp. in the organic section, but doesn't move quite as fast as 'the other place'. I'm old and set in my ways too I suppose, and settled in there first....just feels like home ya know?

Anyway, thanks for stoppin by and sayin howdy! Iced GF still has a bit of time...I'm hoping the poor darlin fills in a bit more, though sadly I'm afraid she's gonna disappoint me this run. Here's hoping the smoke makes up for the yield ;) She's really frosty, though not nearly as much as the last pheno I ran. I could kick myself over and over again for not cloning that one :(

My Blue Widow's going to finish first I think...followed by the IG, then maybe the GDP but Lord only knows what this sativa looking GDP pheno is going to do. My grow got whacked by the STONED ganja fairy this time I'm thinking lol!
