The water level gets maintained a few inches below the bottom of the upper container. The tailpiece extends down into the water.

The tailpiece itself can hang down a few inches from the bottom of the lower container.. allowing you to wick even if water level drops significantly in your modules/pulse res. <- which technically should never happen if your pulse res is auto topped by the elevated bulk res.

i think D9 stated 4 inches was the ideal gap distance, and then when he moved to wider shorter pots he lowered that to 3 (at least for coco)

The ideal distance is going to be unique to your plants in your system.

3-4" is a starting point.

I've never known it to be important. The shorter the gap, the more solution the media will hold, the larger the gap the 'dryer' it will be (less total solution in the RZ).

In my not-so-scientific-opinion, the biggest issue is consistency of humidity profile in the RZ/media. It seems, in general, the the root structure will adapt to that profile as it grows, and the plant will thrive. So if your media is 'wetter', it will develop more 'water roots'. If your media is dryer (or your container is taller), it will have more striated root structure.

good question.

So your looking at version 1 (the theory) and then version 2 (the reality). As with much of what i do, i fuck things up, learn, fuck things up again, then eventually work something out.

I o.

Welcome ta my world... hahaha
We have our own needs from the basic PPK system and have to tweak till it works in our unique environments....

Million ways ta smoke ya weed...lol

Good luck bro... Keep er green...

has anyone tried modifying the greentrees buckets to PPK? just need a bucket up top and brain is always maintaining the nute level. Just need a pump and feedline and there would be no permanent changes made to the system.

You were over in my thread making sure I wasn't the first person to kill a plant in a PPK....Thanks again.

Chit I tried ta kill ladies In a Ppk with Jacks...
3000+ PPMs. For a month
No pulse feeding...
To much volume--too little....

The system just laughed at me and gave me golden nugs of love...

Damb PPKs.. Cant make it difficult - cant kill plants... What fun is that... cha...

OFF TOPIC (sorry Dave)

If the greentree hydro system you are referring to is the Ebb & Grow, it contains the components of a PPK base system with a few extra electronics.

Keep in mind, Ebb and Grows move solution back and forth from the bulk tank using electronic float switches that trigger off of timers.

If you have the stuff already, it's all an easy mod. There are some interesting things you could do with such stuff, but in general, most PPK growers would say that it's 'unnecessary'. You can build the same thing with the same stuff, minus the electronic control, plus a float valve, and be a pretty happy camper (and have a bit of cash for pizza and a beer. Or a martini if you really hate your liver. Stupid liver. Stupid pancreas. Who likes bile anyway?)

Im pretty pissed off. I decided i needed some cal/mag, so after searching high and low i found GH organic CaMg+. It seemed like the right gear.

Now that ive been using it, noticing that it smells sweet, and seeing it brew all sorts of gunk in the res, ive looked closer:
Ca : 5%
Mg : 1%
Molassses : 10%
Cane Sugar : 2.5%

So im paying for sugar not calmag. What a joke.
