hey nomaad your plants look killer. could you/ would you bury a 5-7 gallon smart pot in a hole? do they slow down root growth? i've seen roots shooting out the sides and bottoms, the plants are 2-3 feet tall and have been inside on 18 -6 and the last 3 days outside all day then back in under light to keep the 18-6 but hardening off inthe real sun, i thought since the roots arent holding all the soil together maybe i could just stick the whole thing in and bury it, any thoughts??
thanx mm

i would cut 2-3in off the bottom of the smart pot and plant 4in in the ground..... so that the roots can shoot into the ground while the top has air flow.......

I posted a while back somewhere about trying this. I do know at least one grower who has done it with success...but he did not have a control group to test against.

#1cheez: I just posted some a couple of days ago. More pics tomorrow. In a couple more weeks I will have flowering ganja to take lots of ooey gooey porno shots of... but how many time can I show the same plants vegging? I find vegging plants to be kinda boring to take photos of.

its was about $13K when all was said and done. I know, expensive... but again we arrive at the "potability" issue. I could have had a top of the line farmtek greenhouse of the same square footage for half the price. But... it would have never been the same if moved to another location (my home grow is a rental that will not conform to a county ordinance if one is passed) and certainly would not have been worth much if moved to El Honduragua... my ultimate fallback position when the vagaries of US life become to much for this family....

The dome went up in two days the first time... will come down in one and go back up in one wherever we choose to resurrect her.

You could do it a few thousand cheeper by building your own dome to spec and just sourcing the cover from pacific domes. I am looking into the realities of building these domes with a less expensive cover (this one is amazing, though) and getting them to market for under $8K.

The garden has hit a stride. One of the black boxes is ready to rock and roll... I'll start pulling tarp in 3-5 days.... we'll see how they like the warm weather:

Second black box is somewhat behind the first, but it was planted later and with smaller plants:

Are they getting bigger?:

You are always welcome, my friend. It was fun rockcrawling my happy place. Your advice and encouragement count for a lot.

Last year I only pulled 100 but I've seen much more dried and cured and the way I did mine, and the way I've seen much more than 100 done was the following :

1. At harvest plants are cut in to as large sections as possible for the space and then stripped of all fan leaves while hanging...This makes the amount of bio mass to dry smaller also drying the big fan leaves is pointless since they're trash any way and they just add moisture and take up space..You can fit almost 1/3 more in when you cut all the fans off..

2. Once the stems are snapping waited a few more days.. then large pieces are broken down in to bins and moved to where the cleaning will happen...

Now you need a shit load of brown paper bags...and turkey bags..

4. As they get cleaned in to single units you take them in to the drying room again and punch a lot of holes in to the paper bag with out hitting any buds and then cover the paper bag with a turkey bag and let it sit for another few days like this....

Yes it seems like they're getting super dried but there are times when its completely enclosed for transport etc., in between the pre trim and final trim where it has a chance to kind of rehydrate...evenly drying the produce is very important ..curing is all about balancing the moisture content in the final product...done by strippin the fans at harvest, transporting in closed bins to trim which are aired out multiple times a day ..they dont get flat sided because they're already dried..but those big stems man...they'll get you once you start puttin things in to bins so you have to be on top of it..and then letting them sit with the perforated bag with the turkey bag over the top in the drying room for a few more days after final cleaning..

Just the method I was shown and the method I will use.

I deleted my planty handle because while I am amongst my Plantys I do not feel that it is a marketable brand name..Planty's Plantation doesn't sound very good.. but Trinity County is Gold country..my garden got called a Golden patch for monsters...I feel like with the way the industry is going its important to have an identifiable brand name and I want to represent for my corner of the Triangle..LOL ;)

I thought you deleted your planty handle because this was all a waste of your time. Glad you decided to come back.

That's similar how the trim went here last year. But they were bucked down off the stems into drying racks as soon as they were externally dry but still moist against the stem. Lots of airflow through the cylindrical multi-tier dry racks. The racks get inverted every day for more even drying. Saved me about 4 days per cycle. Gonna need that turnaround this year. From there they go to the trimmers in cardboard boxes or paper bags and then trimmed into open turkeybags until I am confident that they are ready to close and travel. I like the brown bag inside a turkey bag thing. Maybe punch the holes before I fill em with nug.

I will stick with this method for some specially set-aside stuff for the heads, but I am probably going to employ a trimpro for big-leafing and a twister for trimming this year. Not because I want to, but because I have to.

I will have my black boxes (and HLs tutorial threads) to devise a new method for the fall.

The boards ARE a major time waster...but still fun.

Also the buds aren't taken down off the stems until the cleaners get it. The only trimming I do is cut it in to pieces and hang it up. Help takes off the fans as the pieces are brought in.

One day I swear I'll need a twister. i have the brochure tacked next to the todo list over my screen. i love every aspect about growing except trimming.

thanks for the help earlier today in my thread nomaad, I really love your grow and have been lurking since the beginning of last season :)
I think you said this was your first season with the brix mix, but its not just big ol monsters like yours that benefit from brix mix right?

glad to help, deltron. i am assuming that brix mix is just as effective on smaller plants as it will be on these monsters.
