when lights go out turn off ventilation insert no pest strip in your area...when lights come on pull them out turn on ventilation repeat step one week later...should take care of your problem..i do believe dicloris or what ever the chemical is is not good for us...but there is no faster fix for mite control....and you don't have to leave them in the grow room.

I couldnt get by without no pest strips,I get mites at least once a year.Fortunately the NPS gets rid of the each and every time and it takes a few days.I dont know if I'd hang one my last week of flower, but I've had no problem using them when necessary.I personally appreciate them sooo much it isnt funny, after spending literally hundreds on predator mites, pyrethrum bombs etc etc etc.Just hang the NPS for 48-72 hours and remove it,repace it a couple days later for 24 hours to pick up any strays or hatchlings, god I love those things they've saved me thousands of ducats for sure

These things are used in dairy barns and slaughter houses everyday.I use em from time to time.I use it long enough to kill the mites usually about 24 hours and then put it back in it's foil wrapper for next time.take care... BC

A great preventative for spidermites in the veg phase is a cool mist humidifier, mites hate that mist blowing in their little faces.

The EPA, in response to a request from pesticide product manufacturer AMVAC, is poised to restrict some uses of a common “pest strip” insecticide known as DDVP, or diclorvos. DDVP is an organophosphate insecticide, a class of highly toxic pesticides. Low-level exposure to DDVP can cause headaches, nausea, and vomiting; large doses of the poison can be fatal. Laboratory studies have also shown that DDVP can cause cancer; California classifies it as a “known carcinogen,” and the World Health Organization and the EPA name it a “possible human carcinogen.”

The largest of the pest strips, often used in homes, will be completely removed from the market. The second-largest size will be limited to use in garages, attics, crawl spaces, and sheds where people spend fewer than four hours each day. The smallest size pest strip will be restricted for use in closets, wardrobes, and cupboards. Pest strips impacted include AlcoR No-Pest Strip, AMVAC Insect Strip, AlcoR Pest Strip, AMVAC No-Pest Strip, and Swat Pest Strip.

Environmental health advocates asserted that EPA and AMVAC are not going far enough; the advocates say that all home uses of DDVP should be cancelled because the pesticide is one of the most potent toxins currently on the market.

"All of these uses inside the home are dangerous things. That's what is of most concern," said Aaron Colangelo of the Natural Resources Defense Council. He noted that DDVP is already banned in Great Britain, Denmark, and Sweden.

For information on how to combat insects and other pests in the home using integrated pest management (IPM) instead of high-toxicity pesticides, see www.afhh.org/dah/dah_pesticides.htm and www.beyondpesticides.org.

GMT, Thank you for posting the information. It really disturbs me when pest strips are used near anything that will be consumed. Anything that can kill another living thing without touching it, does not belong in the grow cabinet or the around humans! Lungs are such an efficient way to introduce chemicals into the body. It can be a good thing, like with THC, or very bad, like with nerve gas or pest strips which are chemically related to nerve gasses. And yes, I got mites this grow (3 weeks into flower!). I did 3 treatments of neem and it is working a lot slower than the pest strip would, but it IS working. Neem doesn't do a "knock-down" kill, it is more subtle than that. It works in several different ways. It will smother any mite that gets coated. It tastes bad and a lot of bugs won't touch it (when the locust plagues hit India, Neem trees are about the only thing green that's left). Neem, if eaten by a bug, makes them vomit and stops their digestion. Finally, neem messes with their hormones and they can't reproduce. I'll stick with Mother Nature- I garden organically. Neem oil can be found at large garden shops and health food stores (it has medicinal properties, too). I got mine at the health food store figuring that if it was meant for human use, it should be higher quality than stuff for garden use. A little bottle of it (enough for a lot of treatments since you use it by the teaspoonful) was less than $10 and my rural HFS really over-prices things! I plan on spraying my closet with a mix of neem, pyrethrum and BT after this grow to clean it out. If one don't get them, the others will!

hmmmmmmmmmm :chin:

I think the difference is that neem oil is biological? and the chemicals in the no pest strips not?

i dont think theres much harm done by these things, i have a friend who had his grow in his room, had a nps, slept in there for at least 6-8 months and hes not affected by it. i usually used them outdoors in the middle of my plot, never one bug for at least 20 ft. in the growroom theres no problem with it in there, some peopel put it in there for a day, then wrap it up and store it for another use 2 weeks later.

As much as I love what no pests strips have done for me,I wouldnt be sleeping in the same room with one or even spending more than a few minutes there, you have to use some common sense. Why anyone would need to hang a nPS for 6 months on an indoor grow baffles me anyway,72 hours is the most you need at any one time.Dont use these as a preventative, use a cool mist humidifier. They are beautiful though when I see the first couple dots on my leaves.Thats the trick, catch it before theres an infestation and your fine.

if i get mites...no pest strips are in my room a total of 36 hours over 3 days to get rid of all of them at that time frame i could careless how bad they are.in ful flower i dont use them as i know before i have a infestation..through observation

The cool mist humidifiers use a sponge and a fan to blow moisture into the air, those sponges get nasty after time, i would worry about getting bud mold due to them
