New Grow.. what do i get? 600 or 1000w??

Hey guys, about to start setting up a grow. I have been reading for along time and still i have questions. The grow will be set up in a nice size closet and dose not need to be stealth, the closet door can be open for the fan and such. So i was wondering should i go with a 600 wat or a 1000 w HPS for our 1st grow?? There is this 600 wat http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/customkititems.asp?kc=HLHPS06SG&eq= but look at the bulbs that can be added and the ballast? would you all upgrade or no? but there is also a 750 wat http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/customkititems.asp?kc=HLHPS07SG&eq= but same questions again.. there is also the 1000wat ones on that site but you all get the point. so what would everyone suggest. i would be veg/flower from the same light just changing the time the light is on and such... i was planning on getting FOX FARM nutes and possible the Big BUD from fox farm also. there is a few more nutes out there im looking at but i have never used them so i would appreciate what imput you all have.. I would also proly be growing in buckets and the strain i would be using is BIG BANG straight from amsterdam... and they will be fem seeds so i should be good to go.. anyone grow that strain before? Any imput is greatly appreciated.. im sure ill think of other stuff to ask heh

hmmm get a light you think you will be able to keep cool. If your the DIY type, get the 1kw and vent the shit out of it.

i dont think keeping it cool will be a problem. i could put fans all around the lights and in the room. my concern is just i have never grown that big and so im really cluless what to get. thats why im here heh

Need to get a light to fit your space, not by wattage.

For instance, if your area works out to say, 6x3, I'd go with 2 600s. If it were to work out to 8x4, I'd go 2 1kw. It's a matter of maximizing the light use of your space. What's going to give you the most even coverage? If you work on the basis of 3x3 for a 600, and 4x4 for a 1kw, you'll be able to better estimate what's going to work.

Word of warning, some fans blowing on a 1kw is not going to take care of the heat it generates. A 1kw is a bigger heating element than a lot of heaters. Air cooling lights can be done relatively inexpensively, with the fan being the biggest investment. That needs to be in your budget if you're looking at these size lights.

If you're a DIY type and/or can follow really simple instructions, you can save yourself a bundle on lights, probably enough for that fan

Im really really stoned and drunk now but lets have a go at it heh.. ok well the closet i was thinking about in my friends house is about 5x5 id say. and the whole closet is a white paint. if i took everything out of it and just had about 8 buckets of sexy ladies and a 600 hps with a fan of two,, maybe even a fan going to the light. (dont remember whats its called,,too messed up heh) and then a fan entering the closet from the rooom; how would that work out? any other imput or opinions is

oh also i was wanting to spend less then $600 on this 1st grow. but thats only the light and fans for that money. so give me good ideas

If you live in a cold climate and can get some cold air into that closet then your good to go, if its hot or you cant get outside air to that closet, well good luck without a a/c.

a 600HPS in a cooltube with a reflector over it should more than cover a 5x5 spot.

5x5 = 25 sqft

1000/25= 40 watts/sqft

600/25= 24 watts/sqft

50 is generally considered a good target, so to me, the answer is clear

Also explains why I base my light coverage for a 1kw @ 4x4, 1000/16 = 62.5 wpsf. Ask me if I have any light coverage or penetration problems

Also, 600/9 (3x3, remember) = 66.66r wpsf

So you see what I based my coverage calculations on. Plus, it was on a chart at the hydro store

wow nite tiger you rule!!! I was thinking about getting my light from a website so the ballast comes with it and also at least a 1 year warrenty.
I dont really have the time to make my own light so ill be going for lights on the internet heh

i just need to have everyones imput and what they suggest..

is the 1000W really worth the money and power bill???? like does it really produce bigger bugs and more weight???
i want big weight and amazing nugs to smoke

People over think the electrical cost of 1kws. Costs me about $25/month

Took about 15 minutes for my kids to assemble the lights. When I say easy instructions, I mean REALLY easy instructions




As far as the 750, I can't imagine a large difference in price, so why not grab the 1kw? A 600w ballast kit is $105, a 1kw is $109, so given that, the difference in price shouldn't really be noticeable.

nite tiger will not steer you wrong, listen to his advice .
all other things being equal, yes, more power will equal more weight. for the size of closet you are growing in, you will need the 1000 watter. if you want to go with a smaller light, then you will have to shrink the size of the grow room, but since you are saying you want big weight then you will need big light.

With those 1000w light kits dont they come with a ballast? it says they are ready to grow out of the box. once again idk what im buying or know anythging about the lights. i just want a very nice yield and a excellent smoke

Don't need anything besides what comes in the kit, except the appliance cord. Some folks like to have a pretty box around it. I don't, I'd rather let the heat dissipate than trapping it in a box.

green grow im def goint for the most possible weight in my closet i have to use. would i need a blower going into the 1000 wat light or would a nice size room fan do the work? or mabe a few fans around the plants and hanging around?

also what could these plants produce with the fox farm nutes i will be adding for veg and flower.. plus big budd.

i wana hear some stories of how people pulled this off



and yea tiger i think id rather have my heat not trapped in a small box also. ill just keep the fans on it and air blowing in and out

would i hafta make it exit outside the room into the outdoors or into the attic? or would the room be okay with a few fans?
