I went up to Longmont yesterday to Centennial seeds, came home with some Rio Negro Colombian seeds.

Didn't know quite what to expect. I liked the owner right away. The thrust of his business is towards lab analytics but he's big on heirloom preservation & mostly dabbles in seeds, I think. It's just a storefront with a desk up front & lab in the back but he def knows his weed. I gave $80 for 14 very interesting seeds. They're the same very distinctive shape as Colombian seeds I remember from 40 years ago, a very promising thing. They'll also apparently finish outdoors here making them even more interesting.

Anybody have experience with his gear?

yhea, centennial is good shit, and it seems he is "back"... kinda went dark for a while.
we are currently growing a few dakini kush out.... very nice. squaty indica that frosts up HARD early. Def worth a try if you ever get a chance!

iirc his previous offerings were good but uninteresting to me (lots of BlueBerry Crosses and sativas). but you have to respect the guy, he does his own lab testing on his own equipment. most people running CBD hemp this year are doing clones of the Otto #2.

I lost several otto#2 seedlings in the raid (along with harlequin, R4 and several otehr CBD crosses), but since have re-aqcuired some otto #2 x scotts OGK seeds that are waiting in line to be popped (growing the sour tsunami x scotts ogk first)

when i first showed up in colorado i gave Ben a small vial of himalayan seeds that i collected on a recent trip thru ancient pilgrimage spots in high elevations (char dham).

Not yet, but going to see if he's got any Otto or Dakini Kush. Went last week, but he was out somewhere. Look forward to seeing how you do with those.

Dunno about the Otto. My original inquiry was about the Rio Negro. As of two days ago, he def had it, his hawaiian, Dakini Kush, Halcyon & a hawaiian/haze cross.

Bring cash. Don't expect a receipt.

Thanks, Miles. When Ben offered that the Rio Negro had more character than the Hawaiian I had to go that way. The better Colombians of long ago had a distinctive, intense, almost electric high that I haven't experienced with modern cultivars. Maybe the Rio Negro will have that. If nothing else, it'll be different.

Them open crotch get ups are quite breezy. I assume thats what you meant by open costume.
lmao Actually no, I usually wear large heavy costumes with masks that serve as a decent barrier between me and those i'm interacting with, on Sunday I was Jake Blues, so with nothing between me and the tourists but a microphone.

Had the pleasure of checking out Cent Seeds recently, definitely a step above the average here in Colorado, and a lot of their genetics are sourced from interesting places. Tad pricey for locally bred seeds, but I imagine that's needed during their startup period until they have enough sales to really pop off.

Gas mask huh. Or are you talk something more GCI, costume arching and all.
Well My V needs work but isn't too bad.

And my current project is actually a life size bobblehead toy. He's getting his last coat of paint for next year's DCC or this year's NDK.

Only been in CO for a year, is a handyman going to care about my 3x3x6 and 2x2x4 tents or is that something he probably sees often?

Has anyone here used T-5 lights to make seeds? I have some red bulbs I can use. I really don't give a shit about larf or less the perfect buds! I just want viable seeds! I should have made the seed run a month ago. I'm Hesitant to make a seed run in my flower tent right now because it gets up in the mid 80s and I've heard hotter temps produce more male seeds...

wow, talk about deja vu
i'm considering exactly the same thing
switching out a big LED unit taht makes lots of heat in a 4ft x 8 ft tent for making seeds in favor of (potentially) cooler running t5 setups.
I'd def get better coverage of the space with the t5's, and almost sure i would get cooler temps with 2x t5 (16 total 4 ft bulbs burning) than the LED. (Don't let anyone tell you that LED's all run cool!)

I've never heard the thinga bout hotter temps produce more male seeds.... I was under the impression that conditions during germination could possibly influence the male/femal ration, but unaware of any connection of that ratio to the temps during flowering in which the seeds were formed....

speaking on seeds....
How long should it take for these plumpers to turn nice and dark and stripey?
I've got plants taht are in their 6th week of flowering, been pollinated since week 3 or so.... tonsof seeds visible and all plump and juicy looking, just still all greenish/white/grey

Seeds are ready in 3 to 6 weeks after the wild thing. strain, plant health, and levels of Ca and P depending. And probably the T5 were talking about... So little out there on seed making! Pollen chuckin hate I say! Haha I'm just making some open pollination F1s from a few packs I got from the boo 8 years ago that we're stored all stupid... I got 6 out 6 seeds to pop and transplant then I fucked with them and 4 and 1/2 plants are with us today. Now that I'm sure I can get the rest to pop I will go all in, but my timing sucks....

I've heard lots of theories over the years. I believe that a seeds sex is determined from the moment of pollination. Cannabis has male and female plants that are the result of the X and Y genes, just like humans. With this train of thought, your seeds sex is already set and will grow into what ever it's gene are, be that male, female, or a hermi. Have you ever seen a couple that have a large family and all their kids are male, or female? Some males may be more prone to producing male or female offspring, and the reverse could also be true with some females more prone to producing one sex or the other.

I've heard 4 weeks, I've seen some mature in that time frame, then others will take longer. With a few seeds they mature in that 4 weeks, but the more seeded they are the longer it seams that they need.

Been breedin for a lot of years, have over 100 strains, some of em growin all over the world. And I flower with T5's so by all means feel free to ask questions?

The temp thing is just another assumption myth much like light leaks

and T5's put off heat don't let anyone tell ya they don't

I've made a few seeds under T5s. They work wonderfully for that purpose but with less light intensity I'd let the seeds mature for no less than 6 weeks. This should ensure that the seeds that do make are nice n plump n healthy.

As far as sex determination goes, what ganoderma says is correct with the addition of being able to change sex expression through hormone manipulation.
According to Chimera, T.H. & S.S., hermaphrodites/intersex plants are confused females. They just can't make up their mind whether to be Kaitlin or Bruce so try n be both.

Makes sense thanks man!
