My parents had it easy

Gelatinous said:
Agreed.

-They don't ask your kid "what really happened" unless they have suspicion of some sort.

Happened to a bro of mine. His kid was doing something stupid with a rope and his friends, got a pretty good rope burn and some cuts.

-Emo doesn't mean gay.

I'm not even sure where the word itself came from. When I asked my kids about why a few other kids were wearing eye liner, and had painted nails they just said, "Oh, they're Emo, PC for gay." I saw another kid wearing a shirt that read Emo, the new gay. Had my younger son even look one up on the net here for me, but I can't figure out how to post pics yet. I'll see if I can figure out the gallery feature.

-They don't think you're on drugs if you have an asthma attack.

Happened to my oldest son. Needless to say I was pissed about the whole ordeal. Tons of complicated other details I can offer, but in short the vice principal can kiss my dick and he knows it. He makes sure to be "absent" on days when I have to make an appearance at the school.

So I'm not picking on you Gelatinous, just wanted to clarify for you. Respect, and smoke on! :joint:

How is EMO, "not gay"?...can someone tell me that?

We had guns and gunracks in our truks in HS too. I can recall no less then 10 trucks with guns and racks on any given day at my highschool. we even had an off-campus shooting range within 1 mile from the schools front door. I never even thought of using my hunting rifle to shoot someone. If we had a beef we would beat the shit out of eachother.

We would literally go legal hunting and trapping at lunch during high school too . I obviously grew up in a rural environment.

My parents would have kicked my ass if I "pranced around" like some of these kids do today. Know-it-alls who dont have a fukin clue, dont know what "work" is, and I dont blame them, I blame their parents.

The big difference today, IMHO, is that there has been a shift in power. The kids simply control things now....and they know it. The schools are terrified of frivolous lawsuits from overprotective parents and the parents are terrified of the school "taking an interest" in the home life.
Factor in the horrible Child Services departments out there, the distinct lack of discipline allowed these days (parents DO get sent to jail for spanking their kids), and the horrible state of public schools overall and VIOLA! You have kids that shoot up their schools, homes, and classmates and parents that are basically powerless to do anything because the kid holds all the cards.

Reminds me of that South Park episode......"hey guys I know how to make all of our parents disappear! Just say they molestered you!"

EDIT: Just read the whole thread. I had the same thing happen with my 9 year old daughter being questioned by a cop. She was given a "mentor" for tutoring that just happened to be a uniformed police officer. This was while I had an ongoing custody case (which I filed and won) and a cop is conveniently assigned as my daughter's mentor? Yeah sure....I didnt let that go on very long. The schools and the cops are in bed together.

..For one thing, emo is a label for a group...is an adjective....is a lifestyle...all of which do not have a sexuality

the better reason though is that not all "emo" people are gay.
the poster was sayin implying that emo is synonymous with gay. not true.

A school around here got reprimanded (a few times) for calling the police too often due to fights. Even the police were criticizing the school, saying that the school should use more discretion in solving it's problems without calling the police every time something happens. I'm guessing the school officials are way too afraid of being reprimanded by the state for not following the ideal procudeure which Im sure most officials consider to be call cops first, ask questions later. A lot of the incidents (simple fights for the most part) can very easily be handled by school officials anyway. There's no need for these kids to get arrested for fighting.

God damn, Im so glad Im not growing up in these ridiculous times.

As long as they're wearing eyelined, they're still targets for bashing.

#1, I dont get how people that WE used to make fun of in high school are now the cool kids (and that can be extended towards music in general as well)

#2. I dont get how chicks find that sexy.

GOOD! Adults physically abusing minors should be made illegal...

It seems that the lack of has made kids overrun their parents and most authority figures. Look man, Im not into abusing kids, but throughout history, kids deserve a whoopin' to put their bratty little asses back in line. Spankin's seem to have been the last defense, and since it's no longer PC to do it, well... you see the results.

Im not suggesting putting the kids head through a wall, but damn... at that age, sometimes all a kid will listen to is some physical restraint!

Once again, let me just say, I'm so happy I don't have kids :-D

It's like putting me at work in a coffee shop... It's all good as long as people ask me for coffee... but as soon as someone asks me for a nonfat latte iced caramel whateverthefuck, thats when you see me jumping over the counter with a Jimmy Supafly Snukka dropkick to the throat.

Same thing with kids... no patience for dipshitedness!

I've been able to deal discipline in better ways, though I'm certainly not opposed to tanning some ass when its needed. My kids are a bit old for any of that now however, and they've grown to learn what respect is.

Respect is earned, never guaranteed. Plain and simple.

I'm glad to be a part of my kids' lives. And much like any parent I'd give my very last breath to ensure their survival. When they speak, its my job to listen. When a teacher speaks, its their job to convince me I need to listen to a school. I'll meet my kids' demands long before I meet a school's.

That doesn't mean I'll spoil them, much like respect certain luxuries in life are earned, not guaranteed.

sounds like a lot of generaliziations and stereotyping.

I don't think it's true about what you said. It doesn't really matter if their parents are doctors and mayors and another parent is a labourer being a doctor / mayor etc usually just means the parents are usually at work and usually not their for their kids.

but I guess to a doctor etc they expect more from their kids probably also want them to become a doctor or lawyer.

most of the time when people refer to the "good old days" it's just myth.

tI think girls are getting more and more slutty though but that's because religion is becoming less important to most people these days which can be a good thing. Also the media influences how teens dress and act.

to me emo = metrosexuals. Any guy that colors his hair, irons it, spends time in the mirror carefully styling their hair to look emo is a metrosexual, basicly act like gays but not actually gay.

I know plenty of perfectly normal people who have not been spanked and grew up just fine. Including people who used to be little brats.

Plus, the majority of professional psychologists, doctors, etc etc all agree that spanking is not beneficial, but rather detrimental to children, and research has shown that it has no proven benefit.

Plus, the idea of an adult beating or hitting a child is just ridiculous to me.

We disagree, that's ok, I don't wanna turn this thread into a spanking one though so I'll stop here.

My parents never hit us as children. My father was a WWII vet who toured the islands of the south pacific which he never spoke of. He was a quiet hardworking man who, to this day amazes me with things he accomplished, like building his own house after the war with only help from his brother and father. he could shingle the house, put on a new roof, fix his car when neither of those things were his trade. He had a quiet presence and was well thought of by everyone in our town. I only saw him get angry once, when my brothers and i were playing in the toy aisle of a store and the clerk yelled at us. My father went off on the clerk even though we were probably in the wrong but it was scarey. His presence was enough to make us act appropriately without ever physically threatening us.

Hahaha, a bunch of whiny ass opinions accusing stereotypes. First I'd like to address the assertion that there are "very muddled opinions". I didn't read any opinions in that piece, what I did read are called -- observations. And these are observations that may OR may not be found to be supported by facts, not at issue here.

Here are some facts:
Emo == gay. Sorry if you don't jive with that, but open your eyes.
Athsma == drugs? I'd say likely, I bet it happens all the time.

Sorry to say folks, sometimes you can stereotype people pretty accurately. Now I'm a bit older than orgininal poster's son, but I have made the identical observation. I'm a clean cut kid and the like, respectful and responsible, and I came from a background much like OP's son. I definitely broke the public schooling mold. I was very uncommon amongst my peers, this is what allows them to bag my groceries and get my fries and whatever.

People crying stereotype need to read a book or somthing, because their education isn't up to snuff. My guess is, they're just upset because their parental units are the powerless little fuck parents you speak of letting their children run the roost, or they are the parents themselves, and know it.

Heres a stereotype, an example so you can identify it accurately if one ever crosses your path again:

Anyone who was outraged or otherwise irritated by OP, and then had the audacity to point this imagined infraction out on someone elses thread, is an idiot.

There's a stereotype for you. If you were to find one in the original post, it might read:

"All children of doctors and lawyers are fuck-ups"

Didn't see any of that. Get fucking clues folks.

Personally, I see the observations as DEAD NUTS ON

Spanking? Detrimental? UH, no. Spankings were pretty much the one thing I feared. I knew if I crossed the line, which was pretty clearly defined, I would get a whooping. Now I agree, all children do not need a whoopin, but I certainly did, and it would have been regretable had my dad not took the belt to my bare or semi-bare ass. Thats a fact. All these professionals you speak of are jokes, nothing but talking heads to tell you where you're fucking up in order to collect a check.

Spanking because you had a bad day at work is bad. Getting a hellacious ass whooping because you lost the goddamn channel locks pliers, after being given about 100 prods to make sure I had put tools away after use is good. Guess what, I don't lose tools anymore.

Only spineless wimps refuse to break out the belt when it comes to their kids being repeatedly disrespectful or disregarding of your wishes. My dad beat my ass and I am grateful, I doubt I'm the only one.

Do we really need to be politically correct on icmag, for christ's sake?
