My Mix And When To Introduce ?

At what age/height can Lavender be placed in this mix?

My Soil Mix -

2 Cu Ft SuperSoil
3 Cu Ft Patio Plus
2.5 Cups Blood Meal
5 Cups Bone Meal
2.5 Cups Kelp Meal
16 Cups Worm Castings
2.5 Cups Lime
1.5 Cu Ft Perlite (large granules)

I Watered with 1Tbl Sp each of Liquid Karma and Grandma's Unsulphered Molasses to 1 gallon water. 1 Gallon sufficiently moistened this volume of mix for the time to let the mix cool down. The first time it was mixed, 3 days after the initial components were combined, the mix was very hot ( noticeable temperature difference in the medium compared to when I began ). The second time it was mixed, at 1 week, the mix had cooled down considerably but there were still pockets that were slightly warm. I figure 1 more week and everything should settle down.

I plan on placing 3 plants to one 45 Gallon container (22W x 36L x 19H) And placing two of these containers under 2 - 600 HPS. I just need to know when to transplant into this mix. My vegging seems to be creeping along...or my patience is.

Any help is appreciated.

Seedlings two to four weeks old can be transplanted into that mix. The blood is available pretty quickly. The bone meal will take a couple of weeks to get going but you don't need much P in veg. As far as "heating up", I don't know about that. When we say a mix is "hot" we mean it's got a lot of nitrogen in it and may "burn" your plants.

Heating Up

Heating Up

I know what you mean when you refer to a hot soil (lots of N that will affect younger plants.)

When I mentioned heating up, I was referring to the temp of the soil itself. It heated up as a compost pile would. But it only heated up for the first few days. After that it mellowed out but still had some pockets that were slightly warm. That is why I want to wait it out a little to make sure the soil isn't breaking down any of my additives on that level.

Thanks for the info regarding age of plants.

i put my lav in my mix right after germ phase. looking back, i prob should have taken my mix, cut it in half with more media, then used it for the immatures and saved the full strength for the adults. i did get alil fert yellowing out when i transplanted, which is why i recommend half strength. all in all i got a nice female and shes lookin superb right now

ps. make sure you dont add too much lime. i added lime and it raised my ph too much to the point where i was locking out phosphorus. i honestly would add very minimal lime and check your soil ph after your mix everything. if it is low, then add lil lime. ph should be around 6

It surprises me when people with such great mixes need simple answers. You found out about all those great organics and yet you don't know when to transplant? You'll learn with or without help from us
