Sometimes the only shot needed at those beautiful deer, is a shot from the camera
Lovely pic HC, reminds of of a reindeer, are they closely related by chance?

The deer hunting laws here for Sambar deer are pretty simple. The minimum calibre allowed is .270 WIN and 130 grain bullets. I also need a deer stalking licence. It's a feral animal...yes...but it also deserves respect. Deer stalking... is hard work...but at least I'm out in the bush and not staring at the PC screen.
They are feral but also a living animal...it's not their fault they are here. So I try to make it a quick one shot kill.
Way more humane than a snare or trap.
drum_halfzware;4984244 If you are hunting to be humane said:Head shots are a no go. Out in the bush there is rarely a chance to use a stable rest. A decision has to be made and a shot fired....quickly.....and safely....one shot.
Go for the head or neck at 200 metres....no....deer hunting is not bench rest target shooting. Like you say...the thoracic zone...the largest lethal area available.
Just like they taught me in the army.
These freaking seeds seem to be taking forever.

Actually it takes much skill to correctly place a stand. You must use knowledge of animal behavior, tracking, and how to be invisible to your prey in broad daylight. There's nothing at all wrong with baiting your prey, be it with food, pheromones, or other means. Baiting is quite an effective strategy for harvesting meat as it is manipulating animal behavior. If one doesn't need to harvest meat from the wild to eat, slaughter one of your farm animals or go to the market. You did say these deer are feral, which to my klan means total eradication by whatever means necessary. Different regions have different views.
Post Script: Surely you meant 'their territory'
