Your garden is looking great Pako! The bloomers are looking awesome, now just wait a few more weeks:) The babes are looking ready to really bust out, im super stoked to see what they can do

Everyone does things a little differently, theres no "right" or "wrong" just what works for the individual. It makes me really happy to see you finding your groove, its a beautiful thing:) I agree that simplicity is key; I seem to have this urge to always be doing something so Im trying to nail down what I actually need to be doing in order to be effective. For now doing the sprouts thing is fun and at least the worms in my beds love them if the plants dont and I do think some side by sides are needed in the near future. My friend has alot of the same kinds as me and there is a definite difference in stem strength which I attribute to the Si I use; Im trying to get him to use it for a bit so we can compare again but it hasnt happened yet. Ive been having to leave my girls in smaller pots for too long and theyve been getting rootbound so Ive had to help them out more than usual with teas but now that shouldnt happen anymore or at least as much so Ill be sticking to just water with SST/Si/fulvic sometimes. This is fairly simple but maybe I could get it pared down even more; thank you for inspiring me to look closer into what Im doing. Good humus as a foundation and then him to mineral/organic matter diversity, thats a great plan dude and it looks like its working for you!

I think I was rambling a bit there, Im sorry if that was too much

Thank you for the updates, Ill be around to check out whats going on again soon

Keep up the goodness!

Thanks for the kind words. As you know I've been growing for so many years using the bottled nutrients. I was successful but never anything like what I'm seeing with the living organic soil. Coming from a background of organic vegetable gardening I should of thought of trying this myself. All alone in the cellar would have been years of discovery but I think I would have finally figured out what would work for me. The organic forums I have read jump started me and in about a half a year I think I'm a competent organic grower. Now I'm trying to fine tune my soil mix. I'm sure there are lessons for me yet to learn but I understand the basics.

I've been a LITFA grower pretty much my whole life. So it only stands to reason that I would pursue this goal with the organic growing. I've got my worm bin and compost in place so this is the true beginning of my organic growing. Up until now I've been in a more learning and gathering phase but now I have the materials and basic knowledge to move on. It is a fun experience and beginning to reward me. So keep in touch and I'll be posting again next weekend.

Im still majorly excited about this one; a whole room of her would be stunning!!

I don't know if I would have a whole room of Neon Purps but a couple of plants for sure. I'm trying to slow myself down from pushing her into flowering. But I'm going to see if I can wait another month or so.

Today was so pleasant to work outdoors I put 10 gallons of compost into each of my holes for the outdoor grow. I've still got to dig one more hole and then I'll be ready.

Hole with compost

Hole covered by straw

There will still be a lot of rain between now and late June so the compost is loose. The straw will slow down the compaction of the compost. There were lots of worms still working the compost. I didn't use any aeration because there is still lots of leaf and straw pieces throughout.

I got the third and final hole dug for my outdoor grow. In the next day or two I'll fill it with compost. I dug into some animal (mountain beaver or rabbit) tunnel so I want to see if the animal will repair the damage and I hope abandon the tunnel.

This is the end of week 5 for the ladies. So all 3 are showing there buds. I got a shot from the top of each. I also got bud shots for each because they are starting to frost up.

This week I thinned out the males so I don't have many seedlings left.

Cascadian Frost

I think CF is going to be female and quite a bush when it fills out.

Yesterday I transplanted Mildred and Trainwreck and moved them to the flower area. These teenagers will be turning into ladies.

What about those older ladies you might ask. These ladies have been maturing for 6 weeks now. They are starting to fatten up and smell.

So I'm getting plants moved around. I've opened up some space in the teenager area.

Teenagers

In the back I have on the left MTV and on the right Eminem. Also back there are 3 MTV clones. I'm only going to keep one so the other two will be composted just like the tops of Eminem and MTV. The 4 on the left front are my seedlings. I think one is male but still not sure about the other 3. I'm cloning them and they should be rooted in the next week or so. One the front right is my Neon Purps girl.

So I have these babies that I'm trying to turn into teenagers. I have hit 6 for 6 from Mildred, Trainwreck and Neon Purps. I'm only going to keep the most vigorous one. Those are the ones in the 4" pots excluding that one in the back corner. That one is an Eminem clone. You can see I've got some more cuttings I'm waiting to see if they root. One of the Goblin Queen seedling has rooted and I'll transplant it tomorrow. Here's the picture of what I'm talking about.

glad to see you got a GQ going after those ones back when damped off.

Thanks canna woop! - My first GQ got eaten by a mouse when it was only a few days above the soil. I almost killed the one I just cloned trying to protect it from the mice and ended up over watering it. It did recover. Here's the mother of the clones that was over watered.

Goblin Queen

I did lose a Noctural to the over watering but the rest I was able to save.

I have read many posts about whether or not continual cloning of succeeding generations of the same plant may or may not lead to genetic drift. The only way to know for sure is to do a genetic test on the clones over time and see if in fact it does change. I'm not going to do that but what I am going to say is the genes may not change but the pheno type of outward characteristics can present differently over the generations.

I'm basing this on my own anecdotal experiences. For years I cloned the same UofW plant without any noticeable difference between clonings. I'd take a couple of cuttings before turning them to 12/12 and that would be my next run. I don't know how many generations I went through 25-30 generations. Then for reasons I don't know I got a clone that was significantly inferior to the previous generation. I was never careful about what cuttings I took. I just grabbed something off the lower branch. Some looked robust but others seemed weak and small. It didn't seem to matter. I don't know what was different but I do know that my UofW run came to an end and I was left having to get clones from a friend of a friend of a ... You get the picture there wasn't anyone I knew to get some new clones. I was growing isolated in my cellar. But in the PNW you seem to be only a couple of degrees removed from some indoor grower.

Recently I got some cuttings from a friend. My friend gave me two cuttings off each plant. One of the cuttings looked like your typical marijuana plant. The other cutting (same mother) had some variegation in the leaf of yellow and green. It was something I never had seen before. He wasn't sure if the variegation would continue to be part of the growing plant and thought it might disappear over time. Well it didn't. So now I have two plants from the same mother that look very different from one another.

There may not be genetic drift but the physical characteristics expressed by those genes can be different between sibling cuttings. I do like that yellow and green leaf patterns. An ornamental plant that's good to smoke.

Do they both bud out the same? with the same potency? Would be cool to breed a variegated strain from that if the same potency. Maybe there are some already, don't know

This is my first run of these strains so I don't know about the potency yet. I'll be sending them to flower as soon as I harvest the almost finished ladies. They've got another week or two to go. I don't know about breeding though. I would think you need a variegated male or go through a lot of back crosses. I took a couple of cuttings with the variegation so I'll see if it carries through to the next generation.

I didn't get to the ladies before the lights when out so no pictures of them until tomorrow. In the meantime here is a couple of shots.

Cascadian Frost

This is a seedling so I'm not sure of the sex but if I had to guess this plant is looking female. It is just a huge bush. I'm going to let it grow another 6" or so and take a couple of cuttings.

Neon Purps

I'll be turning this in a week or two. I've got a clone from her now so I'm just waiting to harvest my 3 ladies.

Goblin Queen

This is another seedling I don't know the sex yet. I do have 2 rooted cuttings so I'll be finding out soon.

End of week 7

End of week 7

The 3 ladies are on the finishing lap of their grow. Maybe another week or two.

Trainwreck

Trainwreck is filling in nicely and the buds just keep getting fatter. I think this might be my biggest yield yet. I'm liking the topping of the plant. It seems to give the lower branches a chance to fill out too.

Trainwreck bud

The buds are getting frosty. I'm looking forward to using my new screens and get some dry sift off those sugar leaves.

Chocolope

This lady has lots of buds too. I had to put a dowel in there to give a little more support. Those buds are so heavy the whole plant is swaying in the breeze. I don't want her to break her main stem. The branches are strong though.

Chocolope bud

This one has the longest pistils I have seen on any bud. I grew her before in ProMix and bottled nutrients but she seems to like organic soil better. She may have to go for a couple of more weeks.

End of week 7

Here is the last but not least lady.

Chemdawg

I'll let the picture speak for itself.

Chemdawg bud

This is the frostiest lady of the bunch. Maybe another week for her.

These ladies are all running on water only. I'm liking my organic soil mix.
