My First Hydro Grow!! E&F

Sackoweed: Hey there thanks for stoppin in, I was lookin through a Botanicare Catalog just a few weeks ago,, I got my Aero20 -Cloner from them. I must say though, you're smart making your own, they are pricey in grow shops. I just wanted to get one and go,,Ya Know I will be makin my own stuff from here out though, lot's of great "Homemade" threds' on here you should check out.

i have a few questions for ya.what brand of nutes are you using ?
are you using real hydroponic PH up & down ?
what are your temps & humidity running ?

I'm using GH Flora ; Grow,Bloom, Micro , (and a little B-1 when i first got um). I also have the GH pH down ... don't have any pH up as yet but I do need to go get a bottle as i added a little to much down on the last rez change and brought it down to 4.2!! Live and learn,,I's a newbie!! LOL I joined the IC chat and they suggested baking soda, which i used ( like 1 tsp /30 gl rez) which brought it back to 5.5 . I have had a problem with the pH raising on me so i start it off at rez change with 5.2. over the course of four to five days it raises to 5.8 to 6.0 .
I do have fans in my room,, i leave one all all the time and another comes on with the lights. And my temps stay pretty constant at 72 ,,and get about 78-80 by lights off. lights off it's about 68-70.

,,,could give them more nitrogen.
500 PPM's on fresh hydroton is alittle low .

Really? They are a Little greener then in those shots but it's fairly accurate,, (they could be greener though ) I have been raising ppm slowly,, i noticed a little burn on the tips of a few leaves lower on the plants, but that may have been from the high pH when i got um I just didn't want to burn them. How high do you suggest the ppm be? ( this morning it is at 510-20)I'll trust ya on this :wink: ( 18 yrs hydro! ! you go! !) . Thank for the input and for the intrest! Much appreciated :friends:

Really? Hi wikid ,
it's normal for your PH to wanna drift up every few days , i test mine every day and correct it every other , this way it never gets out of the 5.5 - 5.8 range , if you keep up with it like a religion you'll see major changes in plant health and uniformity, and you really should get some quality PH up , baking soda is fine in a pinch , but you dont wanna keep using it without a res change every few days to keep it from building up, and if your PH was 4.2 then that would explain the slight burned leaf tips you have.
also now if your noticing that slight yellowing of your leaf's too then you can up your PPM's on your soluition and if your worried about over ferting them slowly increase it by 100 PPM's a day over the course of 3 - 4 days.

all your temps are perfect so no need to worry about any of that , do you have any idea what you humidity is ? mines 21% in these winter months because i have baseboard heating and it makes it like a desert in their room
but the plants love it , if you dont have a humidity gauge i'd get one because while herb will grow in a desert to a jungle , it's better to have it about 50% in veg and as low as you can get it in flower.

Yeah, I know I did only use it the one time so I think it should be fine. I am getting a bottle of Up ASAP though :wink: I added that right after i put in too much down in it, busted out the b.s. and raised it back up B4 the pump ran, so the plants themselves didn't get any of the 4.2 water.

hmmm,,, ok,, well all the plants have greened up a bit with the ppm's at 500-520,, only one plant seems to have the tips yellowed and "burned" looking, this is also the plant that is the palest of them all, here's a pic you can see the "burn" in,, let me know what ya think.
this was taken on the 10th of March.
i didn't get my lazy butt out and fill my holding rez yesterday so I'll be doin that in a few mins. and Rez change will be tomarrow. I'll raise the ppm to 600-650 .. see if the one gets worse or not. all the others seem to be growing well and gettin a deeper, healthier green. And, I do have a temp/ Humidity/clock in there but the batteries are dead( gotta get some soon) on the last grow the humidity in the room stayed around 40-60 in veg i do believe. I'll let ya know what it is now soon as I can.

that all sound's good to me wikid , by the way , what did you start you seeds in ? , i didn't see anywhere in your thread what you used , was it rockwool starter plugs ? and why dont you let your PPM's stay at the 600 level for the next week and see how they like it , if you went from 380 to 500 and now to 600 - 650 that should be good for abit.
when you growing abunch of plants in one system and res , your always going to have plants that really like the nutes and other that are more fussy , i always choose the plants that can take a higher dose of fertz when it's possiable as those are the ones that you can push hard for the yield , but if one is really outstanding over the others but it's a lite feeder i'll pick just that one and then work with her clones untill i can get them to take the higher doses of nutes and increase her yield over time.

theres alot to learn growing hydro , but it's fun once you get the hang of it all , then you can start messing with different nute strenths and other stuff and see what you can really get out of a plant . well sweetie i gotta
tell your hubby i said " buy her all the seeds she wants"

And I started my seeds in rockwool cubes (well hubby germed um B4 we had the cubes (GRRRR ) but we put um in as soon after they cracked. The ones in the E&F now are clones from a good friend :friends:

the sprouts are some Skunk ( unknown strain, but STRONG skunk smell at mid/end of flower and stronger still (somehow) at harvest)we did last grow also awesome smoke,, i think it'll be even better in hydro :wink: And i'm tying them to the edges of the net pots they are in, using rubber coated twist-ties, easy to manipulate ya know, :smile:

Hey there ICer's

Got my thrird plant started in LST. The other two are bushin more and more everyday,, my sprouts are growin nicely, I've move them into a small white container ( George Forman gease trap ) and set then once again on a layer of hydroton with small amount of water in it. They're showing roots out the bottom of their cubes so they're likein it so far! I got two that have larger leaves, and already have their second set of leaves startin to raise up,,, not sure if it just faster growin or different pheno's yet but we'll see as they grow..

I'm might have figured out the problem with my first plant that i started training( the one that has a little burn) ,, not sure but it is the Only clone i was given that was put into a large rockwool cube,,, might it be holdin more nutes then the others are? ? well it's not to bad, I'm keeping a close eye on her also. Just remembered about that one bein in a large cube so i thought i'd get some imput on that,,,here's a pic or two also. :friends:

Check This out! This plant is in a large rockwool cube all other are in small cubes 2" i think ,,,This one i raised up as per OH's suggestion,as it maybe staying to wet,, looky what i found when i pull it outa the table :smile: ! They all like this!!

Many many thanks to you man!You are one rightous person :friends: OH; The plants are definately greening up nice! When I lifted the plastic and seen all those roots I was shocked, but knew that cutting the block down was out So I thought about it for a few and I put some Hydroton in a extra net pot i had layin around and carefully placed the other into it Hope it doesn't hurt the roots coming out, but I suspect they'll just keep growing down into the other pot. It raised it up about 2-3" or so,, i'll watch and see if it get's better in the next few days. It seemed today that she was a little greener, but I may just have high hopes for her She's still growing off the hook, and I released the LST tie on her main stem. All her tops are growing out evenly right now :smile:

I'll update with the thred pics in a couple days,,My rez does have a weird thing goin on, not sure what it is, or of it's normal, but it has a foamy stuff around the rim?When i did the rez change i washed the tub out with the hose real well so don't think anything happened there?? anyways all else is going pretty darn well.
