sorry bro...dog insurance is not the dear,,$20 a month,,somthing like that, all depends on the age off you dog, health ect ect ect,,,,it dont help any way as you still have to find the money then get back of the insurance company week/months later.........if you can its better to just pay outa your own pocket

Glad to hear shes ok highlander. Really sad Ive gotta 9 year old pit whos days are numbered and its really gonna kill me when that day comes. I think it says alot about a person whether they have a pet or not. I see alot of these poeple who dont like dogs an cats an are like "get this thing away from me" and its like come on man weres your compassion dont you have a soul.

i got her back this afternoon:). she was still out her face when i picked her up........put it this way her tounge was still hanging abit.

she didnt get the wee lump removed today, there going to leave that for a later date (no to worry about that),,,anyway thay said everything went fine,,thay shaved 1 side out her face/ear (she look mad)....she has a drip/tap type thing where the wound is, this is to drain the fulid + to make sure it doesnt get infected,,the vet told me it will drip for the next day or 2,.. eg shakes her head ect.. thay said it could get messy but she will be fine (the drip has to be there)...shes got a lamp shade on her head to stop her scratch the drip of (this must stay on at all times).....shes got mega strong pain killers (Tramadol)..there not ment to be for dogs but in this case there allowed because of the other meds shes on....am pritty sure Tramadol is what i got when i done may back in........

were back in on monday morning to get the drip out off her wound.. think she will have the lampshade on for 2 weeks, till the wound heals up.......
anyway guys/ladys....i will keep the updates coming over the next week or 2 to let you know hows she getting on.......

if you dont have some kinda insurance people (get it) ,,hears a ruff guide of the bill...i will pop full cost/brake down up at a later date if people are intrested.....

last week $360.....
today $900...................yip the bill is a kick in the nutts, and no doubt there will be a few more,,,but for once in my life a dont give a fuck about the money , ive got my dog back and thats more important.....(i can live on bean and toast for the next few weeks lol).....so guys if you dont have insurance get it:yes:....

Glad to hear it!

Oh I can tell you this I used to work for a VET as his assistant and they treat animals with the same medications that they give to us.

as far as like painkillers and antibiotics obviously they are also using stuff that we dont get but you see my point.

They have liquid Valium and the like etcc.

G

good drown

the tramadol is a good one because its a non narcotic. you dont get that "high" or "spaced out" on it, so its good for the pets, and good so people dont want it hardly, unless they are desperate, so they don't have to worry about scumbags hurting animals to get pills.
i didn't know they had liquid valium, thats cool. they definitely give them alot of the same stuff, just lower doses. "doggie" xanax is just .25 mg, and i think they say cut in half. they love prescribing that to dogs that are bad around lightning, fireworks, or loud noises.

dogs and weed, thats whats up.

If she is panting and hasn't been active or excited then she is probably in pain. Boxers are some of the most active loving pets, so when they don't respond you know something isn't good.

That is a nice looking dog, I saw an all black boxer on the way into town...didn't know there were all black boxers, I threw around some thoughts about seeing what kind of trade for this dog.

Mine was put down by a surprise, a child hood pet and the parents just went up and put the boy down! Never forgiven, that is murder! I don't see what the point is in going and spending all that money to put a needle in and say I failed..

Don't give up, I know they don't age well....surely not cheaply.

Does she have arthritis, I know boxers get that bad...then there is also a cat around here that looks like a skunk that has the arthritis.

Ok, I'm up to date now. Glad to hear that everything is going ok for you and your little lady, Highlander. Not to worry about beans and toast. It'll get better for sure. As long as you have your baby back is all that counts. You guys are still in my thoughts. Peace and GOOD Karma to you and Layla.

HIGHlander...our family has four Boxers...we rescue them and just can't say no. My whole life has been in the presence of Boxers. As beautiful and intelligent as they are, they have breed issues. Ever since we lost a Boxer to cancer, every single lump...every one...gets removed and lab tested. You are doing the right thing.

You are a good dog owner and Layla knows you love her very much. It's odd, but through all the pain and the torture (lampshades, drains, etc) she still knows you love her and care for her.

If it stays for two weeks, or gets bigger--get rid of it. I know this seems excessive to most other breed owners...but you have no idea how guilty you feel that you ignored a bump, only to find out it was cancer.

BEST OF LUCK. My Boxers send their best!

:yoinks: she looks just like layla..infact is that her...i sware bro thay could pass for twins lol......

thay did try to take a test from the wee lump,,thay said there was to much blood/fulid so could not get a proper sample (biopsy)...thats why thay said thay would just remove it ,,,,most likely a cist,,as with a cancer mass thay would of be able to get a biopsy,,,,something along those lines,,,,,she said it wasent cancer anyway....she came from a good breed line with no known history off cancer/heart murmers ,,mum, dad, gran, grandad ect ect ect.....i know that doesnt mean she cant get it but am hoping so...

cheers for the kind words bro K+

Ike (reverse brindle) looks a lot like Layla, but he's a he. ;-) My female Bella (fawn) is a Rott'N'Boxer (1/4 Rottie) and she's HUGE, about 105 pounds. She looks like a lot like noone4u's dog earlier in the thread. Both rescues, Bella was being bred by a known dog fighter...I paid $250 US for her and she was in bad shape. Ike was a rescue from a family that decided they were going to have kids and kill the dogs. They wanted him put down (at 2 yrs) it was $150 US to put him down and $200 to have him neutered. I paid the $50 difference and he is by far the smartest, most gentle and loving Boxer we've ever owned. A one in a million dog. My sister has two (all kinds of health issues) and we've had quite a few come in and out over the years.

Last year, we had a tumor removed on the edge of Ike's rectum. The total cashectomy was for about $1000, it was noncancerous but was growing VERY quickly, if we'd waited longer it would have been a bigger surgery. Bella needs to have a skin lesion removed about once a year. One was 'indeterminate' they say if there is one they'll be more.

In the US, my vet gives me a topical ointment called TriTop, it's like an antiobiotic and topical steriod in one. It's great at shrinking skin tags and sebaceous cysts, both non-cancerous. When an odd skin growth pops up, we apply this for 2 weeks--if it keeps growing, off to the vet they go. We are very thorough about getting them blood tested for cancer markers so if it becomes bone cancer, we can do something about it. Like I said, to many this is excessive but we don't have human children, so it all makes perfect sense here.

So the problem with your dogs ears was more an infection or a skin growth kind of thing? Maybe I missed that part.

yip it was a infection in her ear (thats what the op was). and i found a small lump on her a couple of months ago on her hip (its not got any bigger),,,,thay said thay will remove it but wanted to get her ear/ears sorted, first... so it will get removed.....

much :respect: for what youve done to give these/your dogs a better life (the world need more people like you :eggnog:)..

she is doing alot better today..still not got the lampshade sorted yet as she keeps crashing into things (she is getting better)+ she keep walking with her head down she need to lool were shes going lol)..

i will try and drop a pic of her tommorow at some point:eggnog:
