Good to see this thread still alive. I don't use my rubber maids for bloom anymore, but they sure do come in handy for drying and/or clones + vegging. If anyone is interested, I have a full start to finish run with my own take on a lifeless lab available see under my threads. Check it out! Thanks lifeless. -Fresh

Just built another one of these for my buddy and he absolutely loves it. We improved the airflow by adding a 4 inch inline ducting fan (Home Depot) and he is able to fit (42 watt) x (6) bulbs inside for a total of 252 CFL watts inside. Easy enough to do with a hole saw and a 4 inch starting collar also from Home Depot. We're hoping to pull a little over 4 oz!

It has been...the good ones never die.

Much like yourself I'll be using the rubbermaids for sexing/moms/clones/breeding projects. Why I get it in my head that I need a big badass home build cab I dunno...its refreshing to see some K.I.S.S. to put things back into perspective.

I have a friend using this same cab for breeding projects. I was using them to do seed runs of untested stuff. I found for rooting clones if you use 2 13 watt bulbs and unplug the exhaust the temps are perfect for rooting. with the exhaust running it keeps it alittle to cool. That was my thought in the design of this box i was just looking for something very simple.

Still checking up on this thread LifeLess? Have a few questions for you.

How are your intakes positioned on the inside? Are they pointed up, down, left, right?

How do you have the vanity light fixture staying up? Did you nail it into the rubbermaid box? Do you think using crazyglue would be an okay solution to keep it stuck to the top of the rubbermaid box? I don't really want to nail the light fixuture to the actual rubbermaid.

You also spoke about a 6 inch fan blowing along the top of your plants. Can you expand on this? Is this fan inside the rubbermaid box? Not sure what you ment by this.

And how did you go about connecting your computer fan directly to an electrical extension? What did you need for this setup?

New to this and looking to replicate your setup here.

I believe they are passive. And that they are basically holes with pvc tubing elbows on the outside of the box.

They're are these things at home depot that are made from plastic that remodelers use to wire up new circuitry into bathrooms and kitchens. I think they are called remodeler box's- they are blue. You can use them to safely install the power chord to the light fixture and the light fixture to the box. All it takes is a hole saw that is the size of the remodeler box. Thats one way to do it.

You will need a power chord is all and some splicing tools. Cut off the rubber/plastic sheathing and splice the wires to a power chord. When I made a box for a friend I spliced a 4" ducting booster fan into the Remodeler Box and used the same power chord for the light fixture to power the fan.

There are some drawbacks to using the HPS. Like bulb warranties, full spectrum lighting, and dimmability by switching bulbs, to name a few. Not including the set-up required to duct the HPS and throw the heat some where.

This box is great for what it is- simple and fun.
