I feel your pain, lost my girl a few months back, she was 3, we think leptosemia.
I still wake up at night to let her out, I still hurry to pickup any food I drop on the floor, still hold my breath when I open the door home.
My wife and I cried for days, still do sometimes and I'm not especially weepy.
It gets better though, I can't imagine spending 14 yrs with a friend and losing him, having a dog still felt new to us.
