i'm pretty positive it isnt mold... It doesnt look like mold, or feel like mold, it looks more like mineral deposits(The soil there in the first pic is pretty dry and not moist at all on the top), but that was the first watering i gave them since they've sprouted. Humidity is 56% @ 76*... I've got about 200cfms flowing through there so theres constantly fresh air...
I just watered them again today and it seems to have disappeared... So i'll be keeping a close eye on the plants and seeing what they do... It never happened at all on the first grow, and it wasnt on the other plant, so i dont know if it was the nutes or what... So we'll see what happens
I don't think it's anything to worry about mushu - probably just a soil fungus enjoying getting some water. Unless your plants look unhealthy, it might be beneficial - who knows?
Well.. I only notice it when the soil drys out... so whatever.. Im not concerned about it unless my plants are haha
Anyway... NEW TOYS!!
Yup.. Courtesy of Sugabears how to... I built myself a 70HPS lamp.. I measured it so that the light will fit in place of my current CFLs.. And i even bought two small lamps to place at plant level, they're like 9w(40w) @ 350 lumens, so all in all its a shit ton of lumens.. that is if it doesnt raise my temps drastically.. so ill be keeping an eye on it.. And if so.. It just means something i have for a future grow
It'll be installed later this evening or possibly tomorrow..
Should be an update later tonight.. or maybe tomorrow.. depends on how i feel after my softball game tonight... So... Untill then..
Switching to HPS, eh? Hopefully the temps aren't an issue. Do you have a heat shield that forms a "cool tube"? Like, the air around the light goes directly out the exhaust? My 70w bulb wasn't very hot at all. No hotter than an average incandescent bulb, I don't think. Seemed to work better than CFLs, too.
Speaking of "Mushu", a new Chinese restaurant opened near me, and they don't have Mu Shu! What a ripoff! I love burritos and I love Chinese food, and when I found Mu Shu chicken... perfection.
BTW, my beans arrived, and I have some Speed Queens sleeping in a bed of wet paper towels tonight. Wanna race?
Segue - Unfortunetly i dont have a cool tube.. just the lexan sheet.. But that goes straight out the back with a 80CFM fan...
and thats funny... I actually just came up with the name MushuHappiness one night while playing CS:S(counterstrike source for you non gamers) And was like... Hmmm.. Mushu... mushu.. MushuHappiness... there we go... I've actually never had it, or even realized what it was untill people started asking me if i liked mushu pork/chicken.. So i need to find a restaurant near me that has it lol And speaking of Mexican food.. great thing about cali.. is all the good, genuine mexican food here.. 2.50 burritos that'll knock your socks off and 50c tacos.. and the Taco trucks! Amazing!
And the race is on dude!
Douchestubbler - I'll update as soon as i have pics and a steady temp monitor see if i can keep it or not
Update tomorrow for feed, plants, and hopefully... The new light.
Put the HPS in today and damn.. The temps are actually a little cooler.. Went from a stable 76* down to 72* lol... Guess its cuz it only has to cool one light, where the others were cooled inline so the heat increased as it reached the last light...
So.. I'm happy.. I've got a 70w HPS light in my case, and i'm thinking of putting in those other two lights once the plants get a little bigger and i can move them down.. I've even got room up top for another CFL lol.. Who knows.. at about 5500 lumens average.. I'm a happy camper over the 3900 i was getting lol
Pics of the light inside -
Edit - O yea.. That light timer has been moved out of the case, and the plugs have all been moved to stay out of the way, so its alot cleaner on the inside also.. The cable for the HPS is routed behind my computer desk, and the ballast is on a little stand i made for it so it has access to air all around it, its warm to the touch, but it hasnt gotten hot, and its been running for a couple hours now
An now for the plants... Watered again today, soil was pretty dry.. Roots are starting to show down at the bottom of the planters too. They seem to be lovin all the food they're gettin.. its only a 800ppm mixture with the Senzizyme(probably another 200ppm)... Next week i leave for Key west on wednesday, and wont be back till Christmas night.. So ill be gone about a week.. They should be fine, although i wish there was a way i could at least keep them watered =/
Plant one - Did some fimming last night and already its starting to show two sets of leaves right there
Nothing beats a bit of CS Looking forward to seeing photos of that new light - I just made a fan silencer today so I'm in a DIY mood
Edit: Lol - you posted in my thread as I posted in your thread and you snuck an update in there too.
New light looks awesome mate as do the plants. Great that you're getting cooler temps too, see if you can get those cfls in there too - would give you an brilliant spectrum coverage.
Thanks everyone... Smallish update today.. Didnt get any good shot of the plants.. So i'll just show you guys the screen i built. I was going to LST... Then After not being able to find anything where I wont destroy my plants like last time lol, i decided to build a screen for scrog...
I'll be switching over to 12/12 tonight also and let em stretch a bit... Later this weekend i'll get a shot of some side growth i thought was pretty unusual... The small baby leaves(dunno what they're called) that are the initial sprout leaves have a growth under them that has split the leaves and is starting to emerge.. Pretty interesting i though...
Also.. I think the PH of my soil might be pretty low... The water i'm using has a PH of 7, and drops down to about 6.4 with nutes, but when i test the runoff its down to like 5.5... Is this ok? Or should i raise it up a bit?
Pic of screen in the case:
Thats all for now... Suggestions on the screen are more than welcome
hey Mushu - With the nutes, did you say you were using some organic stuff? If so, you can bubble them as a tea before hand and this raises the pH.
The earth juice I use is really acidic, so I have an air stone + an air pump and bubble it for 48hours, then it's pretty close to pH7 (also helps the bacteria develop)
Here's some handy info on Scrogs if you need any tips - your training and timing will be crucial for making the most of your limited space.
Haven't tried testing the PH of my nutes.. But im using Technafloras Recipe for success.. BC Grow, Bloom, Boost, Awesome Blossom, and Thrive aliveB1 red.. It takes my water down to 6.4 from 7.. Im just concerned about the runoff.. Its at about 5.5 it looks like.. Would that be due to the soil? I have some PH up i can add to the water too to raise it.
Just wondering what I should do.. Keep my water/nutes where its at.. Or raise the PH with the PH up, or flush the soil with the straight water thats PH7 a couple times? Wasnt able to adjust the PH or really test it last grow accurately, so this'll be the first time
(Sorry, I don't have any advice on that. Maybe up the pH of your waterings?)
Our "race", by the way, has started. Four out of four of my SQ beans rose from the dirt yesterday, and they all look healthy. I'd post a pic, but they look like any other seedling in a red keg party cup.
