Yeh. It's where I grew up. Whole different flavor than CS- Not as right wing wealthy, more ethnic because of the Steel Mill, which hired all kinds of immigrants in its heyday. More Hispanic, too. Lots of irrigated small farms to the east along old hwy 50 from Blende to Avondale. I suspect there's a lot of Guerrilla growing...
Lots of retired hippie types around Beulah & Rye, also further south around La Veta, & west of Trinidad...
The old Italian guys used to talk about how Prohibition was a bad joke, an absudity. When I was young, there were still vineyards all over the place dating from that era, mostly gone now.
It's a bit country/clannish around there, not terrible, so a person needs to be patient, ease their way in...

Good luck, I think it'll be tough to make any money. Cities and counties are lining up with bans, which they're allowed to do under the amendment. And meanwhile, dispensaries will be first in line for licenses, whenever the rules are in place.
I think the state will be awash in cheap weed, and it'll be hard to make a buck slangin' it on the side.

While I personally am of the mindset “the more the merrier”, however I know you are seeking an honest assessments of the situation, not for us to blow unrealistic sunshine up your ass…
As Green Gooma mentioned, many towns are in the process of putting moratoriums in place, (basically the same places that put bans/moratoriums on dispensaries over the last couple years; i.e. CO Spgs, GJ, etc.), intending to make life tough for cannaphiles in whatever ways they can. Of course, these are also the places with fewer growers and therefore more ‘room’, (that is not to say there is a lot of room in the market, just that there might be slightly more space.) As was already noted, people really are extremely xenophobic, especially in the cannabis industry…And the more “canna-friendly” the town, the more “closed” the community tends to be towards 'transplants'. Ski towns are full of tourists eager to buy cannabis, however you are going to risk stepping on someone else’s toes in doing that.
If you are coming with a job/income lined up, intending to grow mostly for yourself, occasionally selling an oz here and there, you will love it! But if you are coming to try to make a living as a grower, the road might be a little bumpy.
As for prices-- up in my neck of the woods, Oz's tend to average $120-$180/oz…$200/oz is going to be the cap, for tippy-top shelf.
If you come, just don’t forget it’s not completely legal, yet…

Remember folks, the law doesn't allow for sales. It's just as illegal here to sell as it is in the State where you are now. As a grounding point, it is STILL illegal to smoke in public here. It is also illegal to smoke on the slopes or to be high while skiing.
There will undoubtedly be skiers who want/need weed. There will also undoubtedly be cops posing as skiers looking for weed. Ski areas are located on FEDERAL property. Arrests for sales could easily reflect Felony charges and the FEDS do >not< recognize the State MJ laws here whatsoever.

im comming to colorado for 4 20 canabis cup., i have been smoking daily houtly for 22 years and i dont care if i get a weed charge cause im not gonna come to court or pay the fine! i will smoke where ever i want to , and who ever feels like its thier town or state can kiss my ass , if you have a church and you serve dinner every night before church dont be judgemental of your guest you envited,,, your state voted now im comming to smoke !!!!dont be gready you hypocritical basterds , i got just as much right as you!!!!

The laws is of little importance.We all broke the law before these laws were passed.We ARE coming not just because of the laws passed,but for a more "grower friendly" environment.Its always a risk involved,we are just trying to limit those risk.

I agree,not being discreet is stupid,and carless.The laws create the grower friendly environment.I just want to grow,fish,hike,enjoy the beautiful state,and keep a very low profile.Not selling"locally" in Colorado.Not trying to make any waves or draw attention to myself.I believe nomatter how lax the local laws,growing/smoking should be very discreet,like it is illegal.No bitching,or moaning on my part.Im leaving that for you to do.And from your last post,ur doin a pretty good job.So just chill out bro and..........SMOKE-ONE

Sorry dude...it's just been a long 4+ years of watching the Clown bus deliver new arrivals who think anything goes and the laws don't apply to them. What you say in post #2 is alot different than what you said in your first post and would have illicited a completely differently response, if any. And hey, I don't moan, I just call out the inconsistencies and mistruths when folks start talking bullshit.

I too am one of the thousands of jackasses that are considering making Colorado my new home. I do not plan on making cannabis my living....but rather to finish my life with the hobby I love. I have grown on and off for over 35 years. The only reason I turn off the growing switch is because of security issues.
If a grower (just one plant) gets busted around here....the state will take your house, car, furniture, bank account, and then give you several years on the state farm. The chances of legalization are slim to none with these right wing idiots. My brother lives in a dry (non-alcoholic) county if that gives you some idea of how long it may take for legalization.
I may concentrate my search and efforts towards the farm communities of eastern Colorado...I'm not sure yet?
I understand the concerns of the locals, but you might try to put yourself in the shoes of others before you belittle them. The influx of tourism with legalization....should offset the problems associated with thousands of new residents. It's a win-win for the fine residents of Colorado IMHO. Money, jobs, growth, and freedom. Kudos to Colorado and Washington!

By the way....the first American non-medical cannabis cup in Denver is already sold out. I think pot vacations are going to be a huge attraction for Colorado.

We should find out fairly soon what the parameters will be here in CO regarding retail sales and "pot tourism".
Don't forget, each county/city/town/municipality can opt out of the business side of this equation. Many of those same comminities would opt out of allowing you the right to grow and smoke as well if they could do so by law. Just because it's "Colorado" doesn't mean the local attitude favors weed. The Eastern and Western sides of the state (agricultural/ranchers and farmers) are very conservative and vote that way time and time again.

Classic.BTW, the first 28 regulatory points governing possible retail sales will be released as early as tomorrow. These undoubtedly will be altered/changed, but it may give an indication of how they will address the retail model/pot tourism/etc.
