MotherLode Gardens 2016

With the motherloads ca:k ratio and prudent use of N there should be no worries.

Credit where it is due the orechron is the guy to talk with. A month of rain/fog with almost no mold. He knows a thing or two

Thanks buddy. Dialogue with you and veg and some key articles led me to push calcium and limit K. I think its a a seesaw though: one one end you have mold and pest pressure because the plants are fragile with high k and on the other you have yield limitations. A little difficult to balance it perfectly because of how soil and plant needs change over the season.

Shcrews' plants are the high Ca end now with beautiful, giant, healthy flowers but the plants are smaller because of the low K. I would take that route any day in my climate.

Orech...what is weird is that it seems strain dependents. OGs, cherry pie in particular love low K. Long going sativas seem to need more K...imo

Shcrews, it has been such a wonderfully creative season and you have been very inspirational to me, u have given me really fun ideas for my own art. The beautiful black girlfriend is a great model . I'm going to use her in my next drawing. Will you continue to take pictures and keep up you journal in your off season?

@orechron

Can you point me to any articles or threads related to the Ca/K balance and how it relates to mold and yield?

I used to have a folder on my laptop as well as a bunch of web bookmarks, but I dropped that laptop and couldn't recover anything from the hard drive. The names you'll see come up in the growing large plant thread (Tom Hill forum) are Albrecht, Carey Reams, and Tiedjens. All were agronomists or chemists and there is a long list of work by them that you can dig into.

The short path would be Michael Astera or Steve Solomon. Their credentials aren't as impressive but they communicate the basic concepts.

In a nutshell, if you overload your soil with potassium it will make it difficult for your plants to get enough calcium. Strong, disease resistant cells are only built with adequate calcium. The most common mistake is the overuse of compost (high K). I've made a ton of mistakes but overuse of compost is up there with the worst of them.

I agree. Sometimes drastic, sometimes not. I've found that everything in the chem family prefers higher K, or needs a bump after flowering starts. My experience is limited though: stardawg, dog walker, possibly a fake headband. I've never grown chem 3,4,d, etc.

Your legend cut is stupid good in low K soil.

Sorry for slight derail Shcrews. Hope the chop is going well. Maybe see you at the cup this year?

the Zelda had to come down this morning in the rain, found a small bit of mold on one of the buds which to me means she's done. havent seen any mold in the rest of the garden. this plant was also yellowing a lot sooner than the rest.

my drying room is not dry enough, getting another dehuey tonight. giant buds will rot in seconds flat it seems, if the drying room is not on point
