I can understand that if you're marketing them but for personal use I don't know how you'd be messing with the genetic pool? I've never seen any evidence that R1s are genetically inferior. S1s sure but not reversed hybrids. I fully agree we should maintain regular seed stock in general though.
im not qualified to comment on that but i know when i get seeds i like to know they were made the normal way. but clones are different

Look into the strains and breeding forum. Not here. This thread is all about the Mother Lode Garden.

Sorry to hijack your thread Shcrews...

Fair enough. Nature is undoubtedly smarter than humans.

Hey I couldn't find it in your 2015 thread-- how do you secure your cages so they don't fall over? Do you just push them into the dirt somewhat? Dig them in?

As far as hijacking your thread, it can sometimes be a fine line so I apologize if I've ever run it off your intended course. I don't always know when a certain conversation is unwanted or shouldn't be continued.

i dont really care what anybody says on here as long as it comes from a positive place. I think the mods want this thread to stay fairly on-topic though

each cage is staked down with a t-post and tie wire. i can take a pic if you want but it's pretty simple. if you skip the t-post then the wind will rip out whole plants, cage and all.

Shcrews,
Do you just leave that cage in place till the end, or do you remove it and expand as needed?
F'n deer huh...
The cages stay on all season, it is basically the backbone of the plant. After a month or two I will put up another layer of support using t-posts and trellis.

I havent had many problems with deer at this spot. there is enough vegetation around the property that they like to eat, they dont really touch the ganja plants.

Thank you, I don't need a pic but do you pound the t-posts into the ground, or just let the pressure of the soil hold it up? I have some old 7' bamboo-- do you think two of those for each cage would keep it locked down?

Are you paranoid about compacting the soil when you climb up on those mounds to work on the plants or when you install cages? Every time I have to put my knees on my mound I fluff it back up again with a cultivator lol. Did you do anything to avoid compaction last year with those wide pots?

My plants are about where yours were last year. The whole month I've been hoping and wondering if any of my plants would be 18" by June 1, like you said of your highest yielder, and I'm stoked to say I have a couple that made it, and a few that made it to 21" or so. Thanks for the inspiration man. Mine are packed in pretty tight (around 2-3 ft stem to stem), so I don't expect any 12 pounders but I wanted to make sure I was at least on par with your 2015 grow in June. You said your triple planted 800s yielded the most (per pot), correct?

i pound the t-posts down about 3-feet into the ground, so they hold down the cages in strong winds. bamboo is not what i would use.

when i have to walk on the mounds i use a flat board to stand on so my feet don't compact the soil.

yes last my triple-planted pots got a higher average yield than my single plants, although there were some single plants that outyeilded some of the triple-planted pots. If you have a strain that is known to get big then you probably dont need to triple-plant. packing plants in too tight is counterproductive because it creates more work and can cause problems.

the size of your starts doesn't matter much, they just have to be healthy. Put them in lots of good soil, make sure they get plenty of water and sunlight, and you will get big plants.

Looks tight! Gonna be a jungle! Thanx for sharin. Looking forward to the show.
Fukin aye. Gunna be some hogs!

One of the smartest statements I ever read online. Nicely done.

By the way you may have inadvertently solved an age old mystery with your mounds. Look up "Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve," Washington State. Our ancestors must have grown weed. Maybe they were your ancestors?
Cheers.

Looking good dude, i was gonna ask you about walking on the mounds. I see you already answered it. i wondered how they would hold up if walked on, like if you have to do maintnance on plants and what not. Keep up the good work bud

Screws - did you know redwood trees when they fall can create shoots, or in grower talk, clones, of it self? Some of those redwoods in the forest which are hundreds of years old, may actually be tens of thousands of years old, genetically. Trippy stuff.

You went to big trees above Arnold right?
