It's all about bio-dynamics and the earth's cycles. The early new moon before August 1st helped push many plants into flower. The Farmers Almanac if I remember correctly talked about early harvests this year. Followed by a early and long winter. We in Cali can hope for the early and long winter for sure, need some water.

Thanks for the info bulldog!! I haven't done to much reading in the farmers almanac in a while, I need to brush up on these things before the beginning of the growing season....I appreciate the reply bulldog I learned something new today, I'm glad too because I was really curious about other peoples early flowering issues and what was causing it.

I must admit, you should do your own research for a better understanding. I don't fully understand all that is bio-dynamics and the earth forces, but I am trying to learn all I can. Old Humboldt hippies know this well. Hope I pointed you in the right direction.

Indeed. Us younger folk barely know what an encyclopedia is, let alone an almanac!

Alas, I'll be sure to start reading the Farmer's Almanac when I prepare for each season.

Wonderful reminder of an incredibly valuable resource, good sir.

Thanks

Yosemite fire is super close, the air is smokey outside can't even see the mountains. Hope they get it under control., evacuating this spot right now would suck majorly. Maybe this year they wont try to blame growers for starting the fire

The smokey air will prob kick everything into flower so at least theres that

I wonder how the smoke particles that settle on the leaves will affect the plants. Will it make it more susceptible to pests and disease or less? Can we get a smokey air picture?

GanjaD is big on this. A couple of buddies I know from Humboldt swear by this as well. When you think about how plants evolved over millions of years, and think about the influences that may have effected it's life cycle. Trippy stuff for sure.

Last year, the rim fire smoke lingered for what it seems months up in Calaveras county. it was miserable.
yah that fire was really big. authorities tried to blame growers, then blamed hunters. I like how they switched from one political target to another.
couldn't find where you talk about nutrients. what kind of nutrients have you been using?
no nutrients or teas. Just plain water so far, and some topdressing with neem meal and alfalfa meal

We are using amended vermifire soil for some of the 400's. the rest of the pots are a custom soil mix:

1/3 lava pumice (5/16 inch)
1/3 peat
1/3 compost blend, mostly chicken compost and EWC i think

plus, per yard:

4 pounds Kelp meal
3.5 pounds Crab meal
4 pounds Gypsum
4 pounds Oyster flour
25 pounds Glacial rock dust

The forth picture with the sun set is more then avatar worthy.
good idea

sweet, nice mix. wow, you're using 25 lbs of glacial rock dust with one yard of soil? sound like a very expensive mix.

also what are you using for flowering fertilizer?

I adjusted the ratios in Boobs' mix that he posted in the outdoor thread, he was using twice as much of all the amendments. My mix came out to around $115 per yard plus trucking cost so it isn't that expensive..

For flowering we will topdress, not sure with what yet. Maybe also start giving them tea 1x per week.

800 gallon pots??
We have 15x 400's and 10x 800 gallon pots. Next year will be all 800's if we are lucky enough to keep this spot.
