Nice to hear that, I’ve became interested in the genuine moroccan landrace lately. I dont know if you personally have been in the area, but despite the low potency of the strain, this landrace has a very high value by itself being a pure landrace, taking into account the proximity to Europe and the amount of Critical and other dutch pollen that is floating each seasson in the fields of Chauen and Issaguen.

Is there a high certainty about the genetic purity?

Nice you got them, greetings.

I can’t say anything about this seeds purity, but what I can say for sure is that there are pure Moroccan landrace strain still available in Morocco. Let me tell you why. Because Moroccans don’t like to smoke hybrids imported from abroad. I’ve been to Morocco many times and I speak the local language. I’m not Moroccan but but I speak Arabic with North African dialect. So I’ve socialised a lot with locals. I’ve even stayed with farmers. The reason for why I’m sure there are pure Moroccan landrace is because Moroccans don’t like to smoke hybrids. I would say most of Moroccans hate to smoke hybrids, especially during day time. Most of them prefer their own Moroccans strain. They don’t like the hybrids because it makes them ”drunk”, (sokran) in Arabic. They feel that they can’t work or be productive when they smoke hybrids during daytime so they only smoke beldia during the day. In other words the hybrids are too strong. If you also take to account how many Moroccans that smoke cannabis you realise that there is a great local demand for their own strain. I’ve been there 5 times and most of the time my Moroccan friends turn me down when I pass them a joint with a hybrid(pakistana, mexika, trikita, khardela, etc). Also the Moroccan ”kif” is only smoked with Moroccan landrace. Kif is the way older people smoke their cannabis and that’s also a reason for why the landrace still is available. Kif is buds that they’ve cleaned from seeds and chopped and mixed with local grown tobacco leaves. Ive even smoked kif on the train with a worker, but that’s another history... The Moroccan strain is very easy to distinguish from the hybrids. It has a special smell and appearance, you can easy distinguish it.

I really like to read when people writes their ganja-related journeys in the lands from where the strain comes. The info you guys give almost always spark my interest about the strain (even tho I just invested in some other landrace offered by ACE and I won't be buying this one in particular soon. But could be a consideration for the future).

As Tyrion Lannister said: There's nothing more powerfull in the world than a good history.

Thanks a lot, in fact due its flowering time, once the rest of the imported genetics start to flower, the Rif landrace is already mature and full of seeds. So, taking this into account, and the things you have mentioned along with others, preservation in its purest form is quite possible.

I don’t know if this plant is going to gain a lot of popularity in the landrace enthusiasts community but indeed is a precious genetic. You can see these mountains from the southern coast of Tarifa, and is very amazing how this sacred plant wandered with us across the globe.

Welcome Parameter :)

Thank you very much for sharing your insights about current status of Moroccan genetics and growing scene there.

I hope the elder Moroccan farmers manage to teach the young ones about the importance of preserving their local landraces so the old Moroccan strains don't get fully replaced by modern foreign hybrids genetics.

Hi TakenByTheSky,

ACE Seeds' Moroccan release is different than the one from Khalifa Genetics.
I have smelled and smoked Khalifa's version and it is very nice, so growers interested in exploring a wider pure Moroccan genetic diversity should also consider to explore their version.

The more efforts to preserve old Moroccan strains the better

Is this the same genetic as one of your other vendors on your site is using?

I love the way you approach the subject of cannabis genetics, I've been away from ICmag and seed buying for a few years but it was great to see how far along Ace genetics and Ace seed store has come along in that time 👍

What you can see from Tarifa is the mountains surrounding Tanger. I think there is a value in the Moroccan landrace because it grows with no water except for rain and no nutrients and it finishes fast. This is something guerrilla growers are looking for. I think breeders that breed strains for guerrilla growing would appreciate the Moroccan strain in their breeding program. I’m not a breeder but this is what I think. The farmers always plant their beldia in the most faraway spot of land they have and they plant the hybrids near their houses because the hybrids need more attention and they are worth more. Morocco is maybe the biggest producer of phosphate so they give the hybrids loads of phosphate and the beldia doesn’t get anything. The beldia is always living it’s own life faraway from the farmers house and he never gives it any water it’s only living from rainwater which I scarce. He throws some mule manure on the land and that’s it. Beldia is planted in the most organic way. Not because the farmers care about organic but that’s how they do it. Farmers also don’t have goats and lambs because they just mess up their cannabis plantations. I’ve never ever seen such a hard strain as the beldia. The downside is that it’s not strong and the smell is not sweet it’s more like a black pepper smell. It’s impossible not to distinguish the smell from hybrids and it doesn’t branch. You wouldn’t win any cannabis cups with beldia but if you smoke a couple of joints maybe up to 3-4 joints a day then it makes the job. If you’re a chronic smoker you should look for other strains.

Hi Parameter,

I concur with everything you comment about Moroccan cannabis farming and the different growing approaches depending on what they are growing, in fact similar info is stated in our official description of this Beldia release.

I also agree that a pure Moroccan Beldia would never can compete in look, refinement and cannabinoid content with most modern indoor strains, the strong points of the old school Moroccan genetics are as you said their extreme resistance against heat and drought, their super fast flowering onset (semi autoflowering) and their ability to thrive in poor soils with almost no water or nutrients. These are very interesting traits for breeders and growers growing outdoors in climates of similar conditions to the Rif.

The most relevant point for preserving these Moroccan genetics is that they produce a very distinctive finished product (Moroccan hash) that can only be replicated by growing these genetics in their specific native environment and by following the old school Moroccan farming and harvesting style.

Looking super healthy and happy ULMW, as usual! ;)

She should start to show more sativa character from now onwards in flowering stage.
Best wishes with her! I think you are the first one outside ACE to flower seeds of this new release.

:)
Just about ready to put into bloom. Happy Flowering!

This isn't really fair ULMW. I go from the CBD#1 thread to here. More beautiful pictures of your incredible plants. So now I will ponder getting a pack of these too.
I had just finalized my grow list for the season. I have one tub outside that I could switch out. Hmmm? Beldia....Mazar I Shariff... as landrace genetics go they have several similarities. It is an 80 gallon trough, maybe I could run two plants in it?
Thanks for the dilemma brother.
Peace
