George- You can get any yield depending on the veg time. If you want more yield veg a lil longer. Im not sure what the yield would be but your using soil anyways so its not going to be dramatic. A good friend of mine grew jus in ffof and the yield was very similar.

There are a few other things that can influence your yield though.
Like over watering and underfeeding.
I think even with this mix it probably still needs a little food every once in a while at peak production.
I find it hard to believe you can get a full yield with every strain using this mix.
Just my opinion.
I am a control freak so this isn't for me.

JD- The main reason I use this mix is because of the flavor and simplicity. Im sure I could get a bigger yield doing other things like adding nutes but it fucks with the taste. As you seen I grow only personal so taste and high are a big factor for me. I have tried the HF and it was really good also. But IMO the MSM is easier and tasted better. Yield is important dont get me wrong but remember MSM changed the mix so yield is going to be diffrent (better) With taste and simplicity 2. I think with the use of this mix your control will be a lot easier right? You dont have to feed until scheduled.

im definatly into this mix. sounds very nice. hey another quick quesiton. would this MSM work good in a SOG setup? not necesarrily the perpetual harvest idea, moreso just the idea of a 1 gallon bag or whatever, with a short veg time...or is this geared more toward the veg for a month flower for two crowd?

George - I'm in gallons. No problems. If you pull the plants down when they are wet, the roots kinda compost in the containers and you can reuse quite a bit of the dirt after it dries. I use it for vegging.

well with an upcoming grow i will give this thing a shot most likely...if not, im still gonna with the FFOF soil and lots of perlite. but the idea of them tasting so awesome just makes me want to try and keep all the liquid ferts out and go with good old fashion rich as hell soil instead of tryin to fert here and ammend there.

i have some 6" C99's in 2gal growbags. im using 2 different soil mixes for them:

-base soil of walmart potting soil + coco coir. lightly amended w bone meal, blood meal, worm castings, kelp meal
-plain miracle grow potting soil.

my plan for these mixes was a light mix for the fert-finicky C99. the coco coir was added to take take down the pH of the alkaline WM soil.

well, on both of the mixes, i have leafs becoming stiff & curled:

which is a sign of over-fert.

coming to the point..........
i want to try out the MSM mix (simplified version: 3-foxfarm combo) - im tired of using cheap soil. but isnt that suicidal to take plants that get burned from a plain potting mix, & putting them in the fert-megaloid that is MSM mix??

Hmmmmm...I dont know to tell you the truth. If you want to use the mix get the soil now and transplant 1 plant and see what it does. If it takes well transplant the others cuz youll have the mix. When my leafs curling down and springy its a sign of over water

over-water may be part of the problem also. i have a sickening amount of drainage holes on these growbags, along with a dehumidier....but for some reason i havent had to water them for 5 days since last watering (when i transplanted them). so maybe the overfert isnt as bad as i thought.

once i get some christmas cash, i will definitely be trying out this mix.

thanks mysta

Here's a modified Moonshine Mix grow that may go a little way toward showing that the Mix is the real deal. The soil is all Fox Farm, 1/3 Ocean Forest, 1/3 Potting Mix, and 1/3 Light Warrior.

I didn't add any fertilizer to the soil at the beginning, but instead I've used three very light feedings (one teaspoon each) of Fox Farm Peace of Mind dry flowering fertilizer.

When you consider that all I've done is added a teaspoon of dry fertilizer three times during flower, and other than that just added water when needed, you can't get much simpler than this. No pH worries, no ppm meters, no this, no that. With Moonshine Mix you just add water and light and let the genetics do what they will. If you're tired of fighting your grows, you owe it to yourself to give this a try.

The plant pictured below is a clone called God Thai, bought from a medical club in San Francisco. The plant is at day 47 of flower under 150 watts of compact fluorescents, and in a one-gallon pot.

I placed the clone into 12/12 as a raw, barely-rooted clone. This plant stretched more than any other plant I've grown; probably 2.5x.

The trichomes are just now beginning to get a little cloudy, but not much. The fan leaves are getting that old, tired, yellow look that says the plant has just about had it, so I don't see this thing going much past 55 days. There's been no bud expansion for the last week, so I'll give it a few more days.

I plan on re-vegging this plant, because it's so low odor, it's produced more bud than any other plant in the same conditions, and because it's been such a pleasure to work with. The smell when touched it a mix of fruity and spicy, and it's just heaven to smell.

Here it is...

Mother mix?

Mother mix?

Been awhile since i posted on this thread glad to see it's still rockin.... i still grow in the older simple mix

(bag of each)
Ocean Forest
Planting Mix (guano/castings)
Light Warrior
1 cup peace of mind
2- 5 gal buckets of perilite

I can't get the Planting mix anymore so i am hoping i can replace it with black gold?

Black Gold
Earthworm Castings 100% Organic

OMRI Listed for use in organic production. Containing earthworm castings and Canadian Sphagnum peat moss, Black Gold is an all organic soil amendment that's excellent for use as a top dressing, diluted to make a rich liquid "tea", or mixed with any soil to stimulate plant growth. Earthworm castings improve soil structure and increase microbial activity in a way that out performs most commercial fertilizers. Your plants will love the multitude of benefits!

Also wondering how you would modify this mix for mother plants? take out the POM? After a month or two they ill need some ferts. Then what would recommend staying orgainc of course?

thanks and much love to the moonshine mix users!

Iron Lung can you get happyfrog from foxfarm?
For veg all I do is take out the POM. I have seen ladyz do real good in plain light warrior if not batter than the bag mix in veg. I have not transplanted from light warrior (veg) to the 3 bag mix fo flower. But Im prob going to do this next time. I think romulator does light warrior for veg 2 but im not sure.

No happyfrog around for me? ... what about the guano in the planting mix. it seems by replacing it with black gold you loose all guano except for whats in the ocean forrest.... never tried vegging in straight light warrior? that would be a soilless mix which is something ive never done, but may try.

I've had good luck starting seeds in just the guano/castings Planting Mix. I let the plant root fully in the plug before transplanting into the full MSM. The full mix would probably be too warm for your clone straight up.

I did all my clones straight into MSM.......without the fruit and flower of course. Straight light warrior does really good also.....

I really like this mix.

Hey Groove, whats the size of that rubbermaid and how much of the soil did you put in it? I am eventually going to run a bed style like yours.. Also how much light are you using, and how many tubs?
