moonshine mix

the containers i have my plants in now are capped on the top and bottom, just a little hole for the plant to grow out of, so im finding very little air gets to and drys out the dirt which is basically the same as over watering but im not getting nute burn cuz of it, just one leaf that looks like cal/mag defic to me, and my plants are only a few inches tall right now so i wouldn't think nute burn just from rich organic soil would be that probably but i am a n00b to moonshine mix so maybe im wrong too :)

Is anyone adding any molasses to their water?

Just wondering if this would be overkill or if it will further benefit this mix.

Wow took me like 2 hrs to read this whole thread!

Basically answered my own question from before but still have some more questions.

What are some good beginner strains that grow well in this mix? Pest and disease resistant is also a plus.

Also I want to keep this as simple as possible. I want to use products that are processed as little as possible. Basically want to grow as close to 100% organic as possible.

Has anyone tried this mix using Smart pots? How are your results?

using it right now. 4 ak-47's just topped with some peace of mind. Doing well. Just be careful with ph. I was using distilled water before and soil became extremely acidic. Caused some lockout. Gave it a good water with some tap left out overnight and they bounced right back. Really looking forward to harvest and am only going into my second week of flower. Good luck

This mix obviously seems super simple, and I read thru several of the first pages of this thread... question.

I can readily make this mix when I need it, but, would anyone add anything addition to the mix? Dolomite, greensand, rock phosphate? Anything addition to the Peace of Mind 5-8-4? I have a like 20lb bag of the stuff and found that this mix uses it would be a good way to use it up.

Just want to know if supplementing anything else into the mix would be beneficial? Obviously I am sure it can be tweaked and perfected for different grows and strains.

#1. Its strain dependent

#2. Dolomite is recommended if you're adding it at the beginning. If not , supplement with cal-mag around day 30+.

#3. Its strain dependent :)

This mix sounds solid and the result people are having are dynamite....but can this mix still be used with genetics that are nutrient efficient, like mandala strains? would some ingredients need to be substituted or omitted?

i have found the mix to work very well especially in veg when transplanted at the correct times. Now that I am flowering the mix just isn't going to get me through. I have begun supplementing with earth juice bloom, catalyst, and micro and the plants are responding extremely well. I have also watered using the blackstrap molasses.

is there any sort of alternatives/replacement products for this mix? I live in Ontario (canada) and i'm assuming that foxfarm doesn't sell their products up here.

Hi B2L

I've been using the MSM for the past 30 days or so and was wondering if you watered with molasses ALL the way through veg ?? Or only when you started to notice the soil being depleted of nutrients in bloom ??

i'm asking mainly because I'm starting to get a couple of deficiencies ... on one strain it appears to be a calcium deficiency developing and on another something that looks like it could be magnesium.

I had read that having too much potassium will cause lockout of these two and noticed that the Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Blackstrap i've fed with has alot of potassium.

Another part of me thinks maybe they could be from my addition of LK and hygrozyme into the feeding but I dunno ...

anything helps

thanks :)

I usually just used the moonshine mix for the last weeks of veg( 1-2 weeks) and for flowering. I used ocean forest for veg along with age old mixed at about 1/3 strength.

Use the molasses in flowering, stop using it the last 2-4 weeks depending on how long you flush for.

Hey mikemoister, I currently have a hashberry and a white satin growing in this mix and have not had any problems with them burning. They look absolutely great about 3 weeks into flower. I've been using this mix all the way through and before I transplanted to final flowering buckets they showed a few deficiencies on lower leaves but it turns out they were rootbound and once I upped the container size to 5 gallons they seem to look better every day. Good luck, and yes, you should try this mix. It's been very kind to me. Oh by the way I do add molasses every other watering.

I will try this mix.... few q's funk:

in other words, translpant, let the shock get over, flower?

from a 1 gallone to a 5 gallon.... with dolomite?

when do heavy eating strains get hungry like that?

I think the box directions of 1tbs/g of peace of mind may be a bit higher than the one cup moonshine mix calls for... i wonder if heavy feeding strain would benefit from a touch more. Ever seen DSD in moonshine mmmmix?

thanksv :joint:

edit: one of the original posters said the mix makes approx 40 gallons of medium. At the box directions of 1tbs a gallon, that would be 2.5 cups of peace of mind!!!

i have grown a few plants with msm , at day 30 i add 1 /2 c f.f. f&f and use moleasses when watering (as well as myco innoculent every 21 days during veg only)and i have some bueatys in my flower room growing in msm 1 cherry hemingway and skunk#1Xnl#5 and a ghs white widow, and arjens haze #3 and a mandela's satori allso in msm doing fanfrickintastic.... some people kind of freak out when 1/2 way into flowering they start seeing the fan leaves turn yellow... but that what plants do in the fall...right? it seems to me like moonshine mix works better then most people believe... because the plants seem to have the right amount of everything all the way through ..so i say again don't get scared when the fan leaves turn yellow and start droping abiut 5 -6 weeks into flowering just focus on the buds .... because thats what its all about ....right???
hehehe
