Modifying the 'Moonshine mix'?

Hello!

I am a newish grower (I have grown a handful of times years ago) and got my hands on some Rare Dankness Rug Burn OG Seeds which I am now growing.

I currently have them in a 90% soil/10% earthworm castings mix at the moment. As I transplant them here in a week or so I will put them in a slightly modified version of the organic "moonshine mix" that Rare Dankness suggests.

Should I consider adding things like guano, bone meal, or kelp meal, or would that be too much in conjunction with the "moonshine mix"? Would it be beneficial to cut down on my happy frog fruit and flower and add those in the mix?

Thanks!

From their website:

"1 bag of Fox Farm Happy Frog potting soil ½ bag Fox Farm Ocean Forest ½ bag of Black Gold organic soil 2 lbs of earth worm castings. 5 gallons of Chunky / Coarse perilite 1 cup greensand 1 cup dolomite lime (powder) 1 small coco fiber brick 2 cups Peace of Mind Fruit and Flower

For 90% of plants this mix will need only Ph'd (6.7) water through the entire flower cycle. For the other 10% of heavy feeders I recommend feeding at week 3 through 5.

For this feeding per 5 gal of pre ph'd 7.0 water.

Week 3: 2 tblspn of Age Old Organics Bloom ½ oz Maxicrop seaweed 1oz of Mother Earth Tea bloom ½ oz B1 thrive alive bloom

Week 4 & 5 4 tblspn Age Old Organics Bloom 1 oz Maxicrop seaweed 2oz Mother Earth Tea Bloom 1/2 oz B1 thrive alive bloom When feeding make sure 20% of what you put in is peeing out the bottom. Start flushing 12-17 days before harvesting."

I am definitely considering giving them some extra stuff during flowering too, whether that's what they recommend or a modification.

I don't think the plants would need more feed than that. Compost teas are a nice addition to most recipes.

There are other good recipes you can follow as well if you don't feel comfortable with this one but you can either go with a proven method or experiment - and that's up to you.

Will this soil mix be too hot to transplant my sprouts into, here in about a week? They are currently in solo cups and I will be transplanting them into 1 gal (6") pots.

10-14 days in a solo cup then to the nute mix. You should see your cotyledons start fading away, that's the stored nutes for the initial stage of life

Great! Thanks for the help guys. My plan is to be transplanting them by the end of next weekend. They will be about 14 days old by then.

How long should I keep them in 6" 1 gal pots before transplanting them into 5 gal pots and flowering them in my 4x4 tent? It would probably be a good idea to sex them before making the final transplant right?

Don't transplant unless it's rooted well enough that the rootball/medium come out of the pot as a unit and holds together. Good luck. -granger

How long would you guess it would take to flll up the 1gal from a solo cup? 2-3 weeks? Any way to verify that they are well rooted enough before I try to transplant them? Definitely don't wanna be hasty.

It's working great, highly recommended. They grew a lot faster than I was anticipating, next time around I will have to flip them into flower a lot sooner. I will start posting flower pics in a grow journal here in a few weeks!

I was incredibly happy, super duper easy too. Here are some shots a week or two before they were done.

Ingski, that's beautiful man! I am growing Swiss Cheese from Nirvana. I started 3 seeds in a 16 oz. cup with the just Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. Once I saw roots at the bottom, transplanted them into 1 gallon pots with just FFOF. Just last week I transplanted them into a 5 gallon pot using the old recipe which is the 3 Fox Farm bags with the Happy Frog Fruit and Flower. I went to my girlfriends house for the weekend to watch UFC McGregor vs Diaz and Holms vs.Tate...good fights. But then when I came home, the girls just exploded. They exploded into the t5 florescent lights up above, good thing they didn't get burned. I've been topping them every chance I get so they are not too tall at all, but they are getting bushy. And 2 of them are saluting the light, letting me know that they love the soil and everything is going good down below. I've taken 7 clones off of these 3 plants and once I see roots coming out of the clones I will put the 3 plants into flowering.
I got into organics after reading the articles in Skunk magazine about True Living Organics. I have the Rev's super soil in a 45 gallon container, but I chose the Moonshine Mix because it is so simple. Swiss Cheese is only a 53 day flowering plant and I'm hoping the MSM will carry it though. I want to master this strain with this soil to understand what it needs and doesn't need. What I did add to the 3 bag mix was Greensand and dolomite lime. I measured that out using one of those cups you get from Burger King. I used one Burger King cup full of FFPM, one Burger King cup full of FFLW, one Burger King cup of FFOF and one Burger King cup of small perlite. I used 4 heaping teaspoons of Happy Frog Fruit and Flower and dolomite lime. And 4 normal teaspoons of Greensand.
I was using FF Grow and FF Tiger Bloom, but I am really looking forward to growing without the use of all the extra water I was using to flush out synthetic nutes.

Hi!

Just a couple questions about the recipe you used...
What are the size of the bags/"small brick"?
Did you cook this mix? How long?
Fantastic looking buds, Ingski

Thank you kindly!

Hey there.

It really depends on a few factors as to how much coco you use. I know some growers that suggest no extra drainage, not even pearlite. Personally I like to use the full pearlite and depending on the season a few handfuls (4-8) of softened coco per 3ish gallons. The whole key to the mix is the "wet-dry" cycle. You want to wait to water until the top inch or so is dry. In veg this will take a few days. Towards the end of flower your gals will be very thirsty and will need watering every day at peak and taper to about every two-three days towards the very end.

I typically "cook" for about a week or two ideally, haven't really noticed a difference tbh.

Good luck!

Hey Inski,
What strain is that and how many days did it take to harvest? What size pots do you flower in? Did any of your plants yellow prematurely?
