I must say that I have missed this thread all these months and I don't know how! Redone, you are living everyone's dream, my brotha! How wonderful it would be to grow freely in paradise with primo genetics like landrace Columbian sativas. Mmm mmm, I get misty just thinking about it.

Like most everyone here, I smoked my fair share of Columbian back in the mid to late 70's and early 80's. It seemed to disappear around the Dallas area when the California Sensimilla showed up on the scene. Sadly, all the lumbo that we used to get was heavily seeded with lots of stems in it. The buds were extremely dense, brownish to golden brown nugs that had a very musty smell and were harsh on the throat. Very expansive shit though and packed a wallop that nailed you to the couch. It was the original "couchlock" herb, IMHO. Don't ever recall having a true sensi-sativa that was claiming to be Columbian. I am sure I missed out on something truly special!

Just a suggestion, Redone. I'm sure some of the breeders on ICMag like Rezdog, BOG or, particularly, Reeferman would love to get their hands on some landrace Columbian sativas to work with in their lines. And I'm betting that they would be more than happy to send you some of their wares in exchange! It would be nice to see this wonderful herb make it to the masses, as it were. Anyway, just a suggestion and I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your plants in your new setup!! Get a "roll-on", bro! Get them buds to soakin' in that Columbian sun!! :headbange

Thanks for looking in lookmethis I love the sativa too.

Hey Rellikbuzz I grew up around Grapevine lake HEB and thats where I fell in love with the Colombian (and a Colombiana but thats another story). But I remember leaving for the army in 1980 (even then the lumbo was gettin shitty) and when I returned in 1982 to Texas it was all this $100 an oz green sinsemilla. Then came the indica and it seemed everybody but me forgot about the Colombian. Now I live here and not only smoke the lumbo of yesterday but I grow it and enjoy it freely.
As far as the seeds I have been working (2 year so far) on finding the best strains here for breeding and as soon as I do I plan on talking to all the breeders that are interested. CK out my current grow in the outdoor forms.
On a side note most of the samples I have obtained here where average quality like the "mersh" we were getting in Texas in the early 80s. However I have found the "Gold" primo like I had a few rare times in Texas, you know the really good Colombian. And even better I found some of the BEST Punto Rojo ever just this past Oct. and am test growing it now.
Stay tuned
Peace from Colombia

Hiya Redone,
Thanks for the info on the grow needs of my columbian.
I just uploaded my thread tonight with pictures of two strains of columbian unknown.
Not gold :-( but had the taste of the old school brown columbian I use to enjoy.
I plan on keeping my veg room and my flower room going all year round.
So the extra wait for the sativa will not be a problem.
I also agree the cure is very important.
I plan to hang dry in darkness for at lest 7 - 14 days and then place in jars opening every few hours turning etc in the open air for 15 20 min then pack em not to tight in jars untill they are fully dry.
For sure when finished I will offer a detailed smoke report :)
Keep up the great work your doing.
I still vision what you do as history in the making for you to someday be able to offer your strains and findings to the breeders.
I really feel you have found your calling my friend.
I will look forward to your updates.
And please help make my day and visit my new thread with new pictures of my two columbians.

There is a place in america- In Los Angeles county, near three different gang territories. Also there is a local county park- with a lot of empty land next to the park.
If you wander into the vacant lot at night the mexican migrant workers may kill you for your tennis shoes. They call it "the strawberry filelds" because when you are dead it's forever. And they will kill you for your shoes there.
So colombia is no scarier than Los angeles......
every continent has places they will kill you over shoes im sure.
Id much rather be there than here. "the admin" here is about the scariest thing I know of.
Re-verting the chocolate - she is going to make it, and showing vegitative growth now.

Contemplating a chocolate columbianxG-13 cross. My columbian is earthy and very hash flavored. The mom i have now beats almost anything out there for flavor.
Very intense long lasting creeper high, almost psycedelic.
Should blend well with the G I have. (original from seed-same as nevilles original cut)

Hey tiedye, nice looking plant. I have a few rare Colombian strains going right now and I mixed em all with a male Afghani. I want to grow out the seeds from the cross and mix em back to clones I took from the C-bos and get a new improved Colombian. Still got a long way to go yet.
Peace

Love the loco stuff

Great thread. Nice to see some REAL homegrown :D
Memy is working with SMG at the moment. Memy selected a mom and dad from stock that came directly from "'lubo" a few years back. Same source and stock RM has (and we have :D ). Our mom is kept tucked away in the nursury and cloned for meds as needed, but we have shared it in the past. Dr Jay was a recipient of this wonderful plant he loved sooooo much. I do believe there may be another Dr Jay Foundation release in the future... hopefully his SMG hybrid.
Keep a look out for Memy's SMG hybrid photos as they get posted this spring.
:woohoo:

thanks re-done
that was my g-13 I have going now. She's a virile monster strain. I have the raw g-13 buliding blocks- IT IS NOT an s-1 clone only...But heirloom G-13.
here is a pic of the colombian I have going now.
outdoors she gets fairly black in winter here.....I have acclimatized her to the cold however, and look forward to growing her outdoors more....she is fairly manageable indoors for landrace.
here is a budshot from her testing run.
he cross should be phenomenal. I have hybrid colombians i been growing for years. over A decade even. I plan to work on a bx of my third gen "stinky" to the colombian. the seeds are made i just need to work on em a bit more....
So this year should see a few colombian hybrids and hopefully a 'puro' version as well, Im going to try and cull a male to match my "best girl."
here she is. My favorite plant ever from South america.
chocolate colombian.

I'd love to try some real columbian some day...I'm young so I've only heard the stories , my dad used to smoke nothing but the gold..said there is nothing around now that compares to it

so how hard would it be for someone to move to Columbia?? what do you for work redone? I'd be afraid of going there and then finding out they pay you pennies or something. i'm looking to relocate though and am definitely interested in columbia, if its possible. at least for a few years stay. great thread btw...peace

Hola TD420 you have a great set up and beautiful plants you are a master cultivator for sure. I was wondering how the pure Colombian sativa grows under artificial lights. I have grown about 5 different strains of Colombian and they all seem to have the same flowering cycle (long) even though they look different and smoke different. The reason I mixed the Nirvana Afghani with them was to shorten the long growth life and get the buds finished in a reasonable amount of time. Where I live in Colombia it’s not a cannabis-growing region due to the altitude (2,700m) so my plants have to be strong to grow in this somewhat harsh environment of intense equatorial sun (10+UV) and cool temps at night (40s). Also I have found in my travels and experience here (Colombia) that there is a big difference in quality between the local domestic grass and that which gets exported. Of course the domestic is fresher but still compressed from “sweat” curing and bad handling, however it (the domestic) seems more potent. Back in the seventies I smoked tons of Colombian as I sure many others did during that time and most of it was good but some was outstanding and it’s like that here now. There’s A LOT of “good weed here but very little outstanding, you really have to know someone here and even then it’s a crap shoot. To get the really primo (not export) Colombian marijuana you have to live here.

FLUENT, Colombia is a moderate-income country compared to those around it but compared to the USA it’s poor here. Also she is a Spanish speaking country so you need to know some Spanish to live here. Work is hard to come by but you can live here very comfortably on a little money. For work here I teach English conversation classes, everyone here wants to learn English and most know the basics but they don’t know how to pronounce the words. Really I don’t work very much here cause I have a small company in the USA that my partner runs and he sends me a few dollars every month and that’s more then enough to live on here. Also I am married to a Colombian and she works for the government here and makes pretty good money too. Food, dope, rent is cheap here so you really don’t need much money to live well.
If you want to move to Colombia I would be more then happy to help you. But I would take a visit here first and ck it out, like I say you can teach English here very easy and that pays well. Man once you live here for a few you won’t want to go back, I won’t.
Come to Colombia and start a new wonderful life.

You will find all that you seek here Colombia

thanks alot for the info, i'm going to look into it more. Columbia sounds like the place to be if you want to grow comfortably and smoke those highland sativas. strange thing about the golds/reds is that from what i've seen they don't exactly look like killer pot..to someone raised on the indoor nugs..some look downright shwaggy. but i'm sure the smoke more then makes up for the looks. again i've never been blessed to smoke any Columbian. that one in the pic you posted saying "high/taste/smell is top shelf"..that is one that must smoke better then it looks. my pops has been telling me the same thing

"the good smoke in the 70s was brown"

just strange to the youngins is all haha..

so how much money would one need to live comfortably for a month in Columbia? what is a good average income in USD to have? definitely interested in living near Bogota...btw that Afghani is looking great red, healthy. no doubt that the punto rojo is sativa, look at those leaves..

Hey FLUENT your more then welcome for the info. I think Bogota would be a great place to live work wise but it's a huge busy city if you can handle that. And compared to good indoor hydro the local weed here is schwag, it's sun dried seedy field grown not trimmed or pretty. However its pure sativa and fresh, I found (in over two years looking) some exalent samples (buds) that have a high that is as good as anything I had in the states. But for dank your going to have to grow and dry and cure it yourself, I only smoke the local stuff while my stuff is cureing.
I spend less then $100us a week here and thats rent (nice 3 bedroom with a killer balconey) elc. gas (cooking only there is no need for heat N air here) cable TV and DSL
Food very cheap and good here (I eat alot of fresh fruites) and weed is about $20an lb. (bubble hash?). So really you could live (one person) $50us a week easy. Stay away from the coke here, it's almost pure and cheap $4 a gram (yes a gram) and very easy to get lost in it here.
The afghani female in the pic is not even two months old and almost finished, she is only 10 inches tall and smells to me like some kind of soap/fuel.
Sorry my friend the sativa makes me chatty but like I said if you want to come here let me know and I pick ya up at the airport and help ya get started living here (and smoke ya out with the old C-bo)

Hey cannable thanks man I love it down here. How many weeks do you think the afghani needs? I might add she has seeds with that take longer? And her smell is strange (in a good way), my colombians get a skunky hash smell but the afghani has a strong soap like smell.

the afghani is just starting to flower so i'd say its got a good 50-60 days left? I'm far from an expert though...

i was reading in your grow thread that the punto rojo/columbian sativas could take as long as 10 months seed to dry bud? that seems like a really long time...is that due to the plant being a 100% sativa or is that based on your climate/growing situation? do you force them into flower or just let them autoflower and grow naturally? I'd imagine once those sativas stood a good 2 feet i'd start giving them 12 hours of darkness..but I've never grown a Columbian sativa either..or anything outdoors for that matter. whole different ballgame there. regardless you should get some nice buds there. those 'wiry' type sativa buds look interesting..i've never seen anything like that before, either (used to the indica/50/50 phenos)

I'll take you up on that smoke out offer..I'll probably check out Colombia more after I figure out a way to generate some USD while living there (ebay business or something). The key is living off dollars and not having to work for Pesos :) Have you made bubblehash with all those $20 lbs? ISO/honey oil would be a great way to maximize those buds...shwag no more...

here's something I found on www.webehigh.com...

http://www.webehigh.com/city/detail.php?CITYID=Bogota

"Thats what's really awesome about Bogota It will cost you about a dollar for an 8th of an ounce. However that's for mid-grade weed. The good shit which they usually call red point will be more expensive like 3 bucks an 8th. So basically weed is free there. If you go just outside the city to the counrty side ask around like I did, I found this guy who offered me a potato sack filled with red point for about$150 bucks! I was like about to drool when I saw it there had to be like more than five pounds in there I should have asked the farmer if he accepted visa or mastercard! "

red have you ever been offered a potato sack full of red point? :yoinks: Colombia is sounding better by the second hahah...

Thats a funny story, if you buy it on the street here your going to get burned big time. The folks on the streets in Bogota can spot a tourist a mile away and most that sell drugs are also muggers and thieves. Even if you speak spanish and look colombian or latin they are still going to know your not from there and they will do ANYTHING they can to take your money or worse (kidnapping gringos is big money). When I first came here I went "downtown" to get some bud and got $2 worth of sticks and seeds as well as getting the shit scared out of myself. As far as roaming around the countryside most colombians won't even do that, it's not safe everywhere here and talking to strangers about drugs is not recomended. There are only a few citys and towns here that I am told (by my Colombian family) that are safe to go to but the remote mountains are not.
I have seen a potato sack full of weed here (maybe 50 at one time) but it was wet leaves that they sell at the farmers market (not out in the open) for a sauve they make for sore knees and elbos, it worthless for smoking.
I have a friend here that travels to differnt regions and he picks me up some of the local bud there when he can find it. I got some very good gold from him when he went to santa marta one time and another good batch came from the mountains NW of here. But 90% is nothing to brag about but still better then what you can buy on the streets in Bogota.
Peace
Oh yeah I make QWISO out of most of it
