I was just looking at the trichs on my plant to see if it is ready to harvest and noticed some mites, yellow ones. The plant is ready for harvest. any suggestions?

plants will grow just fine with a few mites crawlin on em, not to say that it's a good thing to see.... but you most likely wont lose anything if they're just starting at the plant in the last couple weeks of flower.

I'd flush her as you normally would and take it down when she's ready personally.... unless there are hundreds and hundreds of them throwing a mite bash.

Yeh if they are having a orgy and piling up so much they are falling off then thats bad. As i have had that happen more then a few times before. They are 1 of the worst pests to get and get rid of . Make sure you clean up and prevent from further infection. As they spread very easy and once they get a foot hold are hard to stop. Good Luck Jubei

The plant is going to be harvested any day now. I was told to just run it under the shower after I chop it.

That's what I did after trimming it down and placing the trim in the freezer...(torture the little bastards). Just be carful to not use the massage setting as you don't want to know the trichs off the buds and make sure you have a shit load of air movement to prevent mold. JMO

spider mites only feed on fan leaves & branch leaves , you will probably never see a spider mite on a bud or high resin area ..just harvest & enjoy ,, peace

I bought some fruit and flowering plant spray for insects. It is made by schultz. It is the only non toxic spray I could find, says safe enough to use day of harvest. I will see how it works out.

bump...
I found the little buggers yesterday. I got the neem oil and started to do the business.

I always figure there has to be some logical explanation to anything. Where did the little buggers come from. I share clone cuts witha frined. He does not have mites. I called him immdediately.

I walked around my house and lo and behold.....A plant with spider-webs. A new plant! I asked my wife about said new plant and she said, That's how it grows." I threw it out in the garbage and told her, "If that is how it grows, it can grow there."

I hope this is the end of my spider mites. Read Soma's books and glad I did. The local hydro store recommended all the stuff in the threads that makes your stuph taste bad and cost way too much money. Neem oil can be used three weeks into bloom according to Soma's Oraganic book and is not expensive. I may just treat for the next few months twice weekly and see how things go.

Thanks for listening.

Eat Poo Mitey!

10-4 Avid. It was a bad week to be a spider mite. I don't know why I didn't do this a long time ago... I've been spraying neem/agri2 and sometimes mixing in orange oil. What a mess and it took so much time. I have a 39 gallon round trash can on wheels that I let water sit in. I put about 30 gallons of water in it and mixed in the appropriate amount of neem and made a spider mite swimmin' hole. I just put my hand on the dirt by the stalk and dip it. If you water 1st, less dirt falls in. I then let them dry completely and rinse before going back under lights. This way you don't miss any and you don't have to worry about where the spray goes. (like on you) Of course you can't do that to flowers, but I turn my flowering babies upside down as well and <lightly> mist with neem from above so it mostly hits the bottom of the leaves. Dry them off and back in 12/12, no problem. A few pistils may turn, but I think that's better than the little Borg mfers living.
Here's another thought I've been having. Some mites will make it all the way to harvest. (with gusto) When I trim my special mite-weed I try to get it in a ziplock and in the freezer as soon as possible. (and spray the floor) Here's my question. Can mites go dormant and crawl off when they thaw? I just imagine this little chorus line of born again mites leaving my bubble bucket. I'm going to test it. I'll get a leaf covered in mites and put it in a baggie and freeze it. Then I'll thaw it and get out the microscope.
Another couple of things I started doing is spread Vaseline along the edges of my bud drying rack and set the feet of the rack in 4 stainless steel bowls filled with neem/orange oil. I figure that as the buds dry, any mites on them are gonna dance over to greener pasture. (like my gf) I DO get hideous pleasure squashing them between my thumb and forefinger (like my gf) and slightly roll the leaf to get the smart ones that travel along the stem. (that runs through the leaf)

p.s. I know I know. You're not supposed to get mites in your 12/12 room, but it happens.

Hello

Saw this thread on Mites, and thought I could ask a question.

A couple weeks ago, I was given a plant to grow indoors. It had been outdoors, and had some insect damage to it. Not being able to say no to a free MJ plant, I took her into my garden. I was cautious about letting it next to my other girls without being treated first. I sprayed the newcomer with a Garden Safe Pyrethian spray. At the same time this new plant arrived, I was also just sprouting some catnip too for my kitties, (Hey I gotta keep them happy too!) I have not noticed any mites on my MJ plants, however, the catnip is covered with them. This leads me to believe that they prefer catnip to MJ. Following that deduction, does anyone think it would be logical, as part of Mite prevention, to place a plant in your grow room that mites love and will be attracted to. Then killem all while they are attacking your "worthless" plant, sparing the shock and toxins to your important crop. :chin:

Thanks for any ideas,

Growing Goo

Great ide GrowDoc. I removed the mite ridden biatch and the cost is now clear again. no more little friends. smile.

My wife is unhappy on two counts. First she is suposed to be the plant expert and secondly she realizes the potential she created and is now much more careful about what she brings ihnto the domain now. smile.

I wish you good luck Gamera, it is for the reason of mites I went to hydro instead of dirt. I figue I have a better chance with no real medium for them to transport themselves other than me or the air. I am a dirt lover from my childhood days.

GD, like a spider mite motel. grinning.

Spider mites and whiteflies are common in florist's shops, so if you bring flower arrangements or plants into your house from weddings, funerals etc, you are asking for an infestation.

Yeah I had a neighbor hand me an arm load of lettuce. I started to walk off (thanking him) and I looked down and the lettuce was just covered with tiny critters. I think they were Aphids.

Avid-Keep a close watch for those lttle fuckers. They teleport.
