Minions of the Dark

I am at about 7700 feet growing outdoors is a challenge but is very worth the trouble. I use a green house With a heater the heater is set at 55 so the plants never suffer to bad. I put my plants out in the middle to end of may I also pre veg inside my house I like the plants to be at least 24" before I put them outside it just gives them a better chance to survive I have had better luck with indica's and indica leaning hybrids the sativa dominate just don't work not enough time to finish and the cold really stunts their growth. I am going to try some auto sativa's this year I think it might work?

Sparky!!! Yea!!! I got a winner here....see, you are doing it exactly how I would (minus the greenhouse...maybe later in the year..zero $$$ until I harvest :eyelash: ) Veg until 2 ft, kick out end of May, let it veg some more, & watch it grow!! My plants typically get 5-6 ft anyhow...& if it was MOBILE in a hard pot, well, like Pak said, pull it in at night & throw back out during the day...My LR wall is all windows & it could stay there for a few days, if needed...Ok Sparky, GOOD SUGGESTIONS!!! THANKS!!!

~Sundance~ :peacock: Open to more suggestions!!!

Did you know that there is a major forum with sub-forums that are devoted to women growers on IC??? Why doesn't the other place have that!? Then there would be no mistaking me for a Dude...or Bro...Aw fuck it, I like BroMama! LMFAO...2 more to go! HA!

What I thought (oh yeah, here's another post! LOL) was that I would start & Veg for 1 1/2 months in my Veg Room....Give the plant a good head start....plant in on of the 10 gal hard pots....put it out on my porch, away from the Biggest Critters (deer, bear, etc...) That way if it gets too out of hand outdoors I can pull it in for a day or 2 if needed....BUT!! If I put it outside, vegging will already having been done, when is the best time of the year to do this???? If I put it out in June, that gives July & Aug to flower...problem is, once the sun comes up in the AM, it has only about 10 hours (I will have to really look at this) of direct sunlight before it disappears behind the mountain in the west...if even that much! so???? suggestions on this????

You're up early Ganja....'Morning!!! :dance013:
Honestly if you want to veg inside and then put outside for flowering the best time to start their flower is right now, there is 12 hrs of daylight. In 60 days it will be up to 14 hrs of daylight. If you wait 45 days longer to put outside you run the risk of having your plants start to flower then have them stall or stop and reverse back to veg because the dark period is not long enough. This can manipulated by covering the plants with blackout clothe for 12 hrs as you would with a summer light depo crop. My point is if you want to just throw em out there and watch em flower your window for that working naturally is closing.

And as long as you have a few hours of direct light your buds will be fine, the sun is so much more powerful than lamps even indirect sun is strong. I only get 4-6 hr direct sun and my nugs are hard as a rock and dripping with resin.

Good luck sunny :)

Sunny I've been re-reading these posts and now I'm trying to figure out are you trying to get a spring crop or a full season crop? The stragies are going to be different for sure.

Ah Hell, Ganja, I don't know! I've been approached several times about possibly growing outdoors...I have 5 acres of forested land (back to back to BLM: San Juan National Forest) & I don't know if it can be done w/o a greenhouse! The weather, natural lighting, critters, etc...are soooooooo hard to predict up here, that I thought I would throw it out to you Guys...Y'all are more on top of Outdoor Grows, than I am! I would think a spring crop would be almost impossible because of the springtime temps...so, I would think a full-season type grow, yes??? What I was thinking (& with some very STRONG advice from others) was at least try 1 plant, possibly 2, just to see if it can be done & plants finished & flowered...That is WHY I'm asking again here on IC & not the other place...I think I've exhausted those forums, except maybe the lounge...Anyhow, still open for any & all suggestion/advice. Now, my indoor grow is a good strong growing area & produces some damn fine plants/smoke...This was just the next step & I love experimenting with my own ideas & others....I can GROW, but outside??? Geez, I don't know now....LOL

EDIT: now I can edit....I guess it had to flip PAST 50 posts....

~Sundance~ 51 posts & I still can't edit my own posts, have a friends list or use my own avatar....why? Or am I doing something wrong here....:dance013:

Same as you....we have hit this really weird thaw...VERY LITE winter....usually have 10-15 ft of snowfall by now & I half-ass expect heavy spring snows, but? Normally spring melt starts the first week of April thru late May...all depends & impossible to predict! Also, normal to have snowfall into June, but melts 1-2 days later...right now I have a stream of water running down my road & a bizarre melt-off...Anyhow, sounds like we are very similar...but it was in the "teens" last week at night....this past week a warm up (slow) & expect mid to high 40's coming up...go figure....

~Too Sunny in SW CO!!~ LOL SG, my apologies for my post dump in your thread....Forgiven?? Yes? <smooches>
EDIT: I'm a "MEMBER" now, NOT a Noob....I can edit, Rep, custom Avatar, have friends...all kinds of shit....& I sent out a few Friend Requests..."Be MY First!!!" Kinda like a Virgin thingy......LMFAO!

'Morning Pak!!! Ok, so I think we agree it needs to potted & mobile until I figure this out firsthand...but don't I want longer days??? I will start vegging inside, but I would think that it would need to continue to Veg when kicked outside, then let Mother Nature's time clock to do it's thing...shit, I dunno! I've grown outdoors mostly in SoCal back in the day & it did whatever it was going to do....Winter or Summer....AND!!! If I kick one of my vegging Females (I have 18 that are 1-2 ft right now) out there, it will freeze...last week it got down to 16 F at night & barely above freezing during the day...but now it's getting into the 40's up here during the day...Winter is NOT over!! LOL

~Sundance~ Come on Guys....GAME PLAN!!! LOL :peacock:
Almost got my 50!! & I can now "rate" posts as helpful...Yeah!

Mid May the days are almost as long as they are on June 21 (the longest day) so I don't think they will start to flower. Here in the outdoors they don't start flowering late August-early September.

Ground temps are a very big thing in the outdoor grows.
This is especially true with container grows.
Just because they are more exposed to the air.
It's a common error to just count the hours from sunrise to sunset.

Weed roots can handle down to 50F at it's coldest, before it wants to flower.
Most Cali growers wait until around June 1st when days warmth and night cold average out to 60F (45F to 75F as an example)

I've seen many plant outdoors too soon, only to have their plants begin to flower, never to return to full veg. (been there, done that).

Take advantage of greenhouses or move plants in and out, to take advantage of warm sun.
Put them in as large of containers as you can handle until TP into OD containers, raised beds, or into the earth.

In high desert regions, it's best to use greenhouses with removable plastic.
Re-install when rains or cool temps return.
