JayToker: This is also my first Hydro grow, it is also my first indoor grow ever. I have been growing for about 15 years outdoor in soil and organic. However, My friend Aerohead on here told me that I should try it, he showed me his computer case, which has a thread on here, and I fell in love with the idea. The hydro method I am using is very simple, it is called DWC (deep water culture) wich aside from getting the ph of the water right, which is easier than soil, all you do is get a air pump with some flexi bubble wands, and have the bubbles of air go to the plant's roots constantly, as well as having the root dangle in the air from the basket with the clay balls to the water is also another air medium. They seem to grow twice as fast as in dirt. but that might be my own perspective. Thank you for the comment, and if you have any more specific qs let me know!
Wow, this Aero DWC method is SICK! double the grow of my roots in 1 day. It's amazing using this instead of soil, because you actually get to see this happening! I am impressed. I don't know if I'll ever go back to dirt....
Check it out:
Mary Purpins roots have more than doubled in size since my last post. which was yesterday.
And I have twice as many, and 2 times the size of the northern lights roots!
Sorry for the blurry pics, but you can see the differnce a day makes. And the difference is Aero.
The other two still have no visible roots, but even if they decide not to pop, I'll still be happy to finish this run. I'll just veg and scrog, and veg and scrog some more to make up the difference.
One of the other Mary Purpins girls laid her roots down into the DWC!!! Wow Wow Wow!
Hey everybody, I have 2 more fans, and ordered the lights, and have all the ballasts... I am going to complete the final project very shortly, Get ready to see what I think will be some really clean design photos!
aero seems to be a great alternative to soil. this seems very easy to use system and intro to non/soil world and good info throughout the thread, keep it going. cant wait to see what the end result is. i love the mini fridge, we are toying with an old side by side unit, the freezer on one side being for flower and the moms in the old fridge part with clones in the the top old freezer, if that makes sense. peace.canna
This is DWC, not aero. Aero is a great producer but comes with it's own dangers such as being the method most prone to catastrophic failure. If you want to go aero, I'd start with DWC. It's aero's bunny slope. All of the lessons and much of the equipment will carry over.
That is absolutely right freezerboy. Hell, I have one of the easiest DWC systems, maybe even the easiest, but if you check back in my thread... I was growing Lungs and Alien Donor Kidneys that no-one knew what they were and had to throw away 4 Northern Lights baby girls.
Now though on the second try, The lungs and kidneys are gone, leaving nothing but spectacular growth. Not to say that something else couldn't fuck up over time, just to say that right now it's roarin, and I have not hit any more snags as of this point.
The Plants are pushing out new leaves and The roots are longer than the DWC sump. So far so good. Thanks to all for the help, and continued enjoyment of this project. I should be getting my PLLs within a few days, and the second they arrive, I will rebuild and give up some photos of the New Boleman Mini BudsRweiser Fridge.
So I worked with Aerohead and dialed my fridge out today. We got two of the five lights in, and put a new 16 watt fan out with the reg PC 120mm fan in for the canopy. We also opened up the Open Air hole to give the fans breathing room. Here are the new pics of the super-pro setup Aerohead helped me build. Hope you like, and I know you probably thought that I would never get it started:
Cheesebuds: Thank you for your support. The sump can be moved up on the side racks, however I think with the PL-L setup instead of the coil lights, I have deeper penetration, they are shooting towards them. I'll leave em there for now, because I am only increasing the amount of light soon by adding 3 more PL-L lights to the top.
Trip Stick: Thank You, and I'll post some new root porn for you loyal watchers and lurkers with this post.
ScrubNinja: Thank you, but I could not have done it without Aerohead's expert knowledge and hands on help building as well. Shit he has ALL the tools man!
Thank all of you for your help with my project!
Here is a purpins shot from the day of the light change:
Wicked, love the sticker, I have one lined up for mine too (presentation is important!). A question from someone who's never done dwc: Are the nutes meant to be that dark? Mine are clear like water when I mix them, with just the slightest tint.
