Slavery never went away, you can easily see this in wage-slaves,(people employed for peanuts) and still very much alive in the cradle of Slavery - Africa/Libya where the going rate for a slave is about 3-400 euros.

Slavery goes back much further than that even the Greek empire used slavery probably had a different name for it. But it was just as bad back then. Even the original Jews had slavery possibly even as far back as the ancient Egyptians of course many historians believe that was done with unity but the Pharos did live much better so equality probably never existed in human history. Yes Slaves have built and maintained many an empire for the Slave-owners, but these days its probably cheaper to pay them a minimum wage on a zero-hours contract and not have to be responsible for their food, medical and housing.

The old slave trade can only thrive in areas where the anti-slavery laws don't have any effect these days, but the newer minimum wage/zero-hours type of slavery is happening all over, and is proving to be a more economical type of slavery for the slave-owners, who mask it under the term 'employment'.
