These were planted 2.5 weeks ago...
Trying some new techniques to see how things go. Used clear plastic mat to warm the soil on some of the plants, and used opaque plastic cups to protect seedlings and also act as a mini greenhouse of sorts. They should grow out the top in a few weeks, cups will be left in place until harvest time. These are fem Think Different X Moby Dick seeds I created last year. Sprayed surrounding area with insecticide mixed with garlic/hot pepper spray, hopefully will keep them from being eaten. Also added 'piss bomb' (pop bottle filled with urine/alcohol mix with rope wick inserted) in nearby brush. I wont be visiting this spot often, but will try to update occasionally. Holes were drilled with 8" gas auger and soil amended with organic mix. They are approximately 5 gallon volume, but surrounding soil is sandy and soft so given adequate rain, plants should get decent sized.

Update on a couple spots,
First has photo regular fems I got from Oregon Green Seed. Planted 4 each of two different varieties, Amnesia Hashplant and Cindy's Blue Cheese. Prepped the holes before vegetation started growing and wouldnt you know, planted in the middle of a fucking poison ivy patch!!!
Here is a pic of one of my better plants, they have been out 3 weeks and were planted under cups as 2 week old seedlings. They have really taken off and as the weather warms more, should add some size quickly.

Another spot with 6 photo fem's I got from Mephisto (cuz Im special) I dont remember the genetics but according to Mitch, they finished in Ireland so hopefully they get started early enough for my area also... These were planted without cups at the same time as the above plants were, these are a few days older however.

Planted 3 Walter White auto fems from Mephisto a few days ago, these were cracked in paper towel and planted with a 1/2 inch tap root under cups.

Also planted about 14 self made seeds in the side of a berm that I found, its sandy soil but had some weeds growing well so I figured it would be worth a shot. They are dinafem Moby Dick feminized pollen given to a Mephisto HBSS female. These werent soaked/cracked before planting but they were each watered in slightly. 7 were planted using Espoma garden tone, 1/4 cup and 7 were planted using osmocote time release fertilizer, about 1 tablespoon dug in slightly. Not much to see yet!

Ok, so I cant get pictures to post on this site, if you go to 'show printable version' they appear as links and when I add them when Im creating a post, they show up, but they dont actually show up in the post once it saved, kind of a bummer. Maybe you arent allowed to link to pictures on another site?

Still trying to figure out how to post pictures without uploading them to this site specifically, please ignore this failed attempt....

Guess the only way to get pictures into posts is to upload them to this site? Kind of a PITA....
Anyway, these are all 3 weeks old , planted from seed in the ground, soil amended with organics.

Looking good my friend! Are you running all autos this year? What latitude are ya? I planted a couple autos this year as well on June 1st when I was setting my clones. They were about the same size as those when transplanted and I ended up putting 2 in a giant ass 4x4 by 2 foot deep hole, since they are smaller plants than photos. They are critical plus auto and amnesia haze auto. They were freebies, figure since they were free i'll give em a shot outdoors to see if I might do some autos next year. If I can get 2-4 ounces out of em i'll be happy! Again, looking good. Keep us updated!

Mostly autos, hope to get them in before hunting season starts.... I had pretty good luck with a couple autos I put out last year so doing a few more this year. Im around 48d lat I think, not far from us/can border. Autos are really picky, if you plant too early, they wont grow much before kicking into flower, I made that mistake with some last year and ended up with foot tall plants that only produced a couple grams, replanted some more later, close to july and they did well tho...

So I have a problem, when I planted my seeds, I cut back the surrounding grass for a few feet around each plant, but when I went back after 3 weeks, much of the grass had grown back so much it was shading my seedlings quite badly. Im afraid this might stunt my plants as autos are very sensitive to any setbacks. I cut them back again, but this isnt a great way to control surrounding vegetation because it is very labor intensive, requiring me to visit my plants more than Id like to, considering this is a GG situation. I was considering roundup around the plants when planting, but this would be very obvious from the air. Even tho they dont patrol for weed around here, I still dont wanna put up a sign advertising where my plants are.

Doing a little research on the net, I came across an article on "plant growth regulators" that greenhouses use. One I think would be effective for what I want to achieve is :

Bonzi (paclobutrazol) also reduces internode elongation and is known to be a very active and persistent growth regulator. This chemical, when used properly, does not produce any phytotoxic effects, but over-application can lead to stunting. Bonzi is used primarily as either a spray or a drench but also has been used as a bulb soak. The Bonzi label recently has been expanded to include such applications as subirrigation and media sprays and has a broad spectrum label for use on most floricultural crops. Bonzi is absorbed within minutes of application, and overhead irrigation can occur 30 minutes after application without reducing its effectiveness.

So Im thinking, when I plant my plants I could spray this around them to give them a better chance of outgrowing surrounding vegetation, without actually killing any of the surrounding vegetation.

Has anyone tried this? Any opinions about how effective this might be?

Not sure about autos but most varieties will outgrow the native grasses and not look back.
If you cleared it once or twice.

looking good bro! i know its a PITA to upload here which is why i use tap-a-talk to upload to another forum then i go to that forum on my computer and upload the pics to my computer, then i come back here to upload to this site and it only takes 2-3 seconds to do all 5 that way,but either way is a PITA really lol i just love Icmag though bc there so many knowledgeable people here and the data base is deep here. looking forward to see how things go.

i would not use Paclobutrazol anywhere close to my plants. i think u would have better success using a brown or green tarp. u could wrap the plants base with the tarp and anchor it down on the 4 corners with rocks to kill the vegatation. that shit will grow back fast without some kind of control method

Im thinking Ill just hit a small area around my plants with some roundup when planting, really it would only be noticable for a couple weeks before the plants cover up any dead grass with green again as they grow... I just planted 20 more of the hbss x moby beans in small starter cups, gonna give them a couple week start before putting them out somewhere near the beginning of july...

Hey DJ, I had a question about your "piss bomb".

Is it supposed to keep critters away or provide nitrogen for plants?

Just keep critters away, mostly deer and rabbits. So far I have had good luck, I made them more complicated than necessary probably but they seem to work well. 20oz bottle of 'scent' lasts at least a month, depending on temperature and humidity. I dont use any physical barriers/deterrants and have very little problem with animals, besides insects that seem to like to eat leaves. I use a systemic insecticide for that tho, when they plants are still young, as they get larger, they seem to be less attactive to insects.

Checked my Mephisto photos. These are 6 Casey Jones x White Widow from feminized seeds. Organic 'super soil' in ground. Found this little guy on the way there.

Plants are all 3 to 4 feet tall and have been topped a couple times. Also today I cut off the bottom 4 branches from each plant as they are the most shaded by surrouding grass.
