MH vs HPS in bloom

A

AlterEgo860

sounds like your bulb was too close.. or your plant mite be in a small container. or it could be nute def because a lot of light.

sorry, cant edit posts yet, also would an MH run on a hps ballast or as long as the wattage of the ballast corresponds to the bubl wattage it should be ok? And should I do the whole grow on just MH or MH during veg and HPS on flo?

Shit, sorry to just keep spamming this thread, but also got one more question, so I just read that MH are actuallhy cooler than HPS, by how much? would it still warm up the tent fs the temperature of the room that tent is in is bellow optimum?

sorryy mel, haven't dropped by this thread in awhile..
and yes MH runs cooler than HPS.
can't tell you by how much or what difference it makes in any certain sized room

i have found experiments in my tables to be the best. you really notice what works and what doesnt. everything is amplified in a way

did this. 1 bulb blue one bulb red, regretted it. the hpos plants grew faster, bigger and better

mh yer really behind in every way.

i gave up on mh ages ago now.

i just did calculations - mh = 115,000 lum, super hps 145,000. no brainer. i want the extra light for the same heat and powerbill, it adds up in wieght for me at the end of the year. a/c, co2 everything costs. nice to get the most back for what your runnings cocts are

I disagree. Its not about lumens. This has been beaten to death. Lumens are a measurement of what the human eye sees. You can not use it in anyway to measure what plants see. Nobody here has contested that blue mh doesn't do well. They give off almost no red light which absolutely kills flower production. Red mh bulbs from 3-4000k are what we're interested in and people have been proving that they work just as well if not better in terms of quality. They may provide a more complete spectrum which benefits flower production overall, not just in terms of yield. I'm using one right now and the quality is pretty nice I gotta say. About 2 weeks and I'll give a heads up on the yield.

Personal opinion here, but I'd rather have 12 ounces of super fire than 16 ounces of decent so that's where myself and a lot of other people are coming from.

at med-man brand we only rock trophy winners :)

lets just say, for laymen like little old me use lumens and the rotios of output as "usable light"
i can see my rooms grow 15% better, bigger faster with hps, so it is safe to say the difference in lumens is realtive to plants growth and out put, waves and parr watts and everything else aside

grow stores got rich raping uneducated growers convincing them they either need blue and red for veg/bloom or very expensive conversion bulb. biggest hoax in growing history. becuase our eyes see blue and red does not mean plants see.

everyone has their own needs and wants in growing

some of the best results i have every seen were with grow-star brand shades. with super hps hortis

the reason? the reflective polymer on the shades relfects back blue spectrum

i prefer adjustawings personally. but hey

keep in mind. some people only produce to get resin/extract etc. they may want the extra ounce or 2 of finished trichs to pay for their running costs. keep the room paying for the room, not the pocket

Thats an off pheno of bubblegum from Serious that I've since kinda gotten rid of. My other pheno from them is less colorful but just better overall. Also doing some sweet tooth (probably bs) and some Western Winds. Whats your favorite heavy indica of your genetics? I'm interested in some new indys and I hate growing the same shit that everyone else does.

What is that Full Nova bulb coming soon? That looks crazy good.

Also another thing I noticed is that HPS does not make transition lenses on glasses go dark, but MH does. That may tell you something.

I realize this is really old but I didn't see any comments on this. The reason your transition lenses are going dark under the MH is just because of the UV that comes along with that technology. The HPS emits no UV and therefore will not cause them to dim.

The Gnome has convinced me to give MH a run all by itself. Nothing fancy here, I just fired up a basic Apollo 400 with a 4200K MH.

I have some high hopes for the Golden Tiger clones I'm running. I'm counting on the MH to help me keep this run tamed.

By the way, I was truly impressed by the appearance of the Apollo ballast, and bulb. Everything seems quite well finished

An arrangement that worked well for me a few times was MH at one end of the space, HPS at the other.

Plants starting 12-12 get the MH. Then get slid down to the HPS end. So i mid-flowering they get a combination of MH and HPS.

I've heard MH & HPS combined make a good photo-synthetically active spectrum.

good to get your input medman :)

when i was running both mh/hps(looking resin production differences) I found that some strains did really good under hps but excelled under Mh and vice versa
and some didn't do well at all under Mh.

that's what got my interest up to start experimenting more w/mh.
and I thought about strains that didn't cut when i used all hps might have kicked under MH

what i see now(and then) strain is the big factor as to how it performs under the 2 differing spectrums. as others using Mh were telling me in the beginning of this thread.
AND
and 4000K bulb.
I tried all Mh 6400-7200K and yield suffered alot but quality was there.
under 4000K it rocked, better than hps with some strains

but this is what really surprised me...
last may when again i did 1 hps and 1Mh with a mix of 2 strains under each bulb
there was faster finish under mh than the other of the same strain under hps.
i posted it back in this thread somewhere.

What's up M-man? I thought you like running a mix of different bulbs in your rooms? Or do you mix up different brands of hps bulbs?
