Mexican soldiers find hybrid pot plants

Why do you people want to grow this strain? Just because it's resistant to aerial fumigation? lol
I think I'll stick to the connoisseur strains ;)

Anyone ever think it possible that through natural selection Cannabis has gained rhizomes to its root structure?

As far as pesticide resistance. we can thank the governments of North and South America for this.

Anyway...
"Before we could cut the plant and destroy it, but this plant will come back to life unless it's taken out by the roots,"

So what ? I see nothing exceptionnal with that. There are strains which are capable of regenerating after harvest. I see no reason why some strain couldn't get back to growth after being cut down. Just need a knot from where the young stem will come out.

Resistance to Spraying is nothing new. Already happening around 1999-2000 if memory serves.

Genetic engineering sounds unprobable to me. What's the fuss to spent really HUGE amounts of money into introducing some new gene to the plant, rather than working on selecting and breeding strains which already has these desirable traits.

the article is implying that the hybrid is cross between marijuana and opium poppy, but that hybrid is really resistant to pesticides.

nay, nothing like that exists. Still, it reminds me of a poppy story. Uprooting the plants is nothing new in Mexico. During early eradication programs they were using sticks to chop down the plant. But it had the effect of dispersing the seeds of the poppies, thus making the eradication uneffiscient as the new seds would sprout. They then switched too uprooting the plants and burn then straight on the place.

How can they judge that the plant comes back to life after just one week (the operation started a week ago) !! my, if the cutter leaves only one knot, no wonder why the plant grows again...

It's said that the strain has been around since two years ? And we hear about it only now ? right at the time when Mex. Gov. is sending the army to Michoacan to re-establish law and order. Maybe some story for the US to send in more money... "Hey, we got SuperPot here, please help us !"

tsssk,

It may or may not be possible that a cannabis plant like that can be bred... but given what we know of the Drug War, it's far, FAR more likely that this (mriko's post, above) is what's going on.

I know where I'd put my money if I had to wager a bet on whether or not this was 100% propaganda.

And effective propaganda it is! This Mexican Godzilla Pot story has been posted on EVERY cannabis forum I've seen in the past couple days and yet, when Eddy Lepp's charges were dropped last week, only 1/2 the forums even mentioned it. When they want a message to get out there, they sure know how to do it... get it posted up on Yahoo! News.

There is certainly the possibility that this is a myth. However, this would be a good thing for people in the US. If Mexico is capable of growing a strain that fits this description, than tons and tons of seeded weed is going to make it to the US for everye commercial guy in the world.

Also, why is it so hard to believe that Cartels were able to work with Cannabis Ruderalis to increase yield and to be resistant to pesticides. Haven't you heard of Round-Up Ready Corn? That's the stuff that most Americans eat, corn that was genetically altered to not be harmed by round-up. Why couldn't the cartel alter this plant to increase yield? If they have a scientist able to manipulte the plant into being resistant to herbicide, than they could certainly alter the plant to be high yielding.

Lowryder advertises "8 weeks from seed to weed", why couldn't this be possible?
