On 2-24 I started seeing some deficiency issues, my first though was Calcium, so I added lime to the teas, and a week later bought some sensical. Around 3/1 the problem wasnt much better, so I foliared with sensical thinking that that should slow down or stop the effects of the problem. no dice. My temp are fine, no higher than 82 and no lower than 64. Humidity is always low (around 30%), and I know i wasnt over or under watering.
Around that time i added more topdress to the soil at 1/2 the recommended rate. I noticed immediately that the soil was much slower taking up water. I figured that would go away as the topdress broke down and soaked in... but it didnt.
It is hard to say, but i have a feeling the topdressing caused some problems.
So about a week ago I removed the top layer of soil, which was easy to do because the topdress and compost had formed this thick crusty layer about 1/2 inch thick. I actually used a knife to cut it like brownie and remove it. I made sure i took off every last piece.
Live and learn. Do not use Rainbow Mix as a topdressing. I am still baffled by the nutrient problem and still thinking it was calcium related. It is possible that some nutrient burn occurred with the topdressing as well. So next time around I am going to keep up on the calcium with sensical, myco eats up alot of Ca, maybe even more than the plant.
That whole fiasco set me back about a week. The plants most effected by it stopped producing calyxs all together and the ones with minor problems slowed down. Now that the topdress is gone, the plants have been watered for over a week with molasses/sensical/liquidkarma pH'd to 6.2, everything is fine. Calyx production has resumed in the hardest hit plants. It kinda looks weird actually, I have some pics of it.
some plants will definitely finish before others. There is this one that has stayed very healthy the entire flowering period but has always been about a week or more behind. It is hard to tell what is going on with the bubba kush. It was not affected by the nutrient issue at all and is frosty as hell. i think calyxs production has almost stopped now.
All has been more or less normal. calyxs production on the plants that had the surge has slowed down. they are still nothing but white hairs, but they have frosted up and fresh, small new ones are much less common.
I took a look in the 30x loupe to check the trichs on the plants that have had no calyx production for awhile. there are some amber heads... not many. i had to check a few spots to find one. i forget how many were cloudy... maybe half or so.
With the pictures I have been trying something new, using the flash under the HPS, and spending much more time in lightroom white and tone balancing. the green of the leaves is yellower in the pics that they actually are.
lets start with blunderberry
And the bubba. the one with 2 main colas has lived up to my expectations. it is about as wide as a raquetball.
I should probably start a new diary on the start of the next grow. the veg stage is well under way, starting some mothers, etc. The grow box will be expanding and changing. I plan on having more control over temps and ventilation by adding CO2, i am far from dialed in with flowering, but the ability to control temps without cutting holes in the house for fresh air intakes is worth the extra cost.
