May I ask if i need to cover bottom in Ebb and flow system?

I got a system like this, but do i need to cover the tray with leca or plastic?

With ebb and flow i found it necessary to put white and black panda plastic with the white plastic facing outwards and cut a X cross in the plastic for the rockwool cubes to sit in.

Without this sheeting all kinds of algae would grow on top of the cubes and the roots would die back from the light exposure.

Yes ph 5.9, washed and rinsed my tank yesterday night.4waterings24h.

I am waiting for my ec meter but i did not give full dose fertz either.
Plants do look helthyer today,
I spayed them with Superthrive mix and warm water. They loved it!.📝

2/3strenght nutes, you think i can use this?
Its for drangage left from when i isolated the cellar and put french drain system

As you are using pots, you can probably skip any coverings. If you find the tray pools instead of draining properly, then you should keep the light off that standing water though. Any water sat in the light for a while, will lead to mold and bacteria growths. Some less visible than others. They are taking your feed and oxygen though, and then the colonies are flooded into your pots and tank. It can get messy. Often F&D is run as a clean system, with h2o2 or chlorides to keep things clean.
